Benchrest in Canada

Hello all. Judging by what I've read so far I gather this forum is more for short range benchrest shooters than 1000 yard or am I mistaken? I have interest in starting to compete as many times a year as possible but living in southern Alberta I think the great distances to travel to either a short range or a 1000 yard match would limit my participance. Any of you experinced shooters have any good advice for me? I'm already set up with a 22 lb 6 Dasher so I do believe that would keep me from competing in the short range br yes no? I realize that the Dasher isn't the top pick for short range but any type of matches that I could compete in to get my feet wet would be great.
Thanks in advance Chad

Hi Chad, there is not much in the way of organized 1000 BR.
They do shoot in Missula MT.
Check with Dick Petsch (Dicks Gunsmithing) in Calgary he is competing in the game.
You may be able to cross over to F Class events which there is more events
I believe that Henry Rempel (Langdon) runs the F Class events in Calgary.

Thanks Dan I will check out both.

There are plans to put 10 benches on the Fullbore range at 1000 yds. This should happen this year. There are plans to eventually have shoots there, I am just not sure what people are planning for events, if any in 2016. This is will be on the fullbore range west of Calgary, administered by AFRA.

That would be great to see happen. It would also be a great addition to the Medicine Hat range to see some organized competitions and an extended shooting distance besides 300 yards.

If what I heard is correct, Taber is building a 600 yard to 1000 plus range at there new range location.
Might be worth checking into.
