Title: Time to get out of the kiddie pool!
Post by: rpollock on January 17, 2015, 09:02:48 PM
All jokes aside, if you want to get involved with the F1 or Top Fuel of the rifle world, come and check out short range BR.

This will appeal to the shooter with a serious competitive streak, for which nothing but perfection will be acceptable. The shooter that wants to compete at the National and World level will love this. We have recent graduates at the World level already. If you are an undiagnosed OCD case you will love BR. If this sounds like you then e-mail me rickpollock@shaw.ca to register.

We will be lining up coaches and equipment for the students to use, and I would ask that you only register if you are certain you will be able to attend.  There has been significant interest in previous years with some shooters wait listed.  When registered participants do not show, instructor time is wasted thereby taking the spot away from other interested shooters. Please don't register if you aren't sure if you can make it, or if you aren't serious about this sport.

Take note we don't teach people to ring gongs, or lay in the dirt/mud, get sunburns on the back of their legs, or blow up gophers, or shoot deer in the next county..... we only teach shooters how to shoot through the same hole at 100/200 yards from a bench.

One last thing, this event is free and you don't have to be a Rosebud member to attend.

All that said!

For the 5th year in a row, Rosebud is pleased to offer the BR101 Clinic.

A great time was had by all today at the BR101 Clinic. Thanks to the Rosebud Club for making the venue available, and thanks to the coaches who volunteered their time and expertise to give back to the sport we all enjoy! I think we had 15 students, and may have managed to push a few guys down the slippery slope!

I think I can speak for all the students there in saying THANKYOU,  you guys did a fantastic job of introducing us to benchrest shooting. The depth of knowledge was just amazing and the time the instructors took in explaining everything was well appreciated. You even got a confirmed rimfire benchrest shooter to "consider" 6PPC.

Keith, I myself am starting to look at Rimfire BR from a Centerfire BR shooter.

Any COMPETITIVE shooting off of the bench makes you a better wind reader.  Rimfire versus Centerfire slightly different animals in what you can control.  The bottom line, you cannot control the wind.  You learn how to use the wind along with a finely tuned rifle to hit the 10 ring or to stack bullets on top of one another.

The biggest thing I get from talking to people about the game is they have NO idea how in depth it is to make a rifle shoot small groups.  How 3/10's of a grain, neck tension, seating depth to name a few can be an effect of how small your groups can be.  Then there is the wind........ Oh the lovely wind....... The wind can be your friend if you learn to embrace and love it.

When a rifle is working, and you figure out a condition to shoot, it NEVER gets boring shooting tiny dots.

The Rosebud BR shooters are doing what more of us need to do, pass the word along.  We hear all to often how stuck up BR shooters may be.  We are not stuck up, we are VERY PASSIONATE about the sport.  Yes, sometimes we are very anal about what we do, but let me tell you to win, you need to be anal.

Anyways, I am glad to hear you all enjoyed the session.  Remember, this Forum, so GRACIOUSLY run by Rick, is a place where you can ask away.  We may not know it all but we will do our best to try.  If not, most of us know people who will know.

I even hear on a regular basis that one does not need to shoot in the US to learn, trust me, you will be overloaded with info after attending a match down there.  A lot of us in the West are the NEW generation BR shooter still learning the game.

Keep them tiny,

Calvin
