I checked out the Diablo web site.... Very nice set up...  Nothing even closely resembling that in the Montreal area.  In all honesty Western Canada is more user friendly for guns and shooting.  If you decision is based solely on shooting Rimfire Competition Western Canada has Quebec beat by far.  If your decision includes being closer to the family here is a little more information for you.

Quebec Shooting Federation. Find a club: https://www.fqtir.qc.ca/en/find-a-club/

Fish and Game Club 40 minutes south of Montreal.  6-7 Good solid benches.  https://www.facebook.com/Lassociation-sportive-chasse-et-p%C3%AAche-Ste-Clotilde-2643535625673127/

Club de Tir Saint Jacques le Mineur.  30 minutes south of Montreal.  Has potential with 20 benches but not Benchrest quality.

Sorel Shooting Club.  I have never been there but looks impressive.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klxkVW2jFUk&feature=youtu.be

Or there is something I would be looking at,  2 hours south of Plattsburgh NY.  http://dunhamsbay.net/benchrest/

Good Luck in your decision making!

Bill Big Bird Gebhardt

The original ones were very well made but were on the light side.

Bill and his pal JB were always tough competitors.... never give up.

Hey Mike,

Trust you are well.

I re-applied using a different format and marked: - Applicant reloads for competition - and it was sent back today approved.  So I take this to mean no loose powder.  It kind of works for Score but Group is a different thing.  I also sent an E-mail off to a contact I had at ATF to see what my options were but I haven't heard back yet.

Take Care

Been to busy to shoot this year so I hadn't made out my new application until a couple of weeks ago.

It was returned marked:  Powder can no longer be imported without explosive license.

Looking at the wind flags in the background they look purple and yellow; or is it my screen.

Hello Fire306,

I have shot on occasion with the Gaulin brothers. I do not know them real well but I can say that they are - Good People.  The business is today what it is because of health issues.

I know a few people with these rifles and I will say that they are well made and well liked. I have never heard a bad word about them. I shoot a well known named rifle as do many but I can tell you this;  the rifles you see on the line are the ones that have proven themselves and are not always the –Big named rifles.  As I see it if it shoots good it is keeper and worth big bucks.

lejarretnoir,

They run non registered shoots through the winter months.  Contact Gerry Malerba for dates.

lejarretnoir,

You may want to consider Northern New York.  The Camillus Club looks like its about 3 hours from Ottawa. I haven’t made it there yet but I shot a few times at their sister club Canastota, unfortunately not a active BR range anymore.  Good people and always helpful.

Good Luck and Welcome to BR

For Against or Indifferent.

I was at a Score shoot in Sulphyr Springs a few years ago; always a big turn out there. At that time there was a movement to go with a 7-minute match in place of the 10-minute match. That particular day the President of the IBS was there and asked for a vote to see how everyone was thinking.  Well; a hand full voted for the 7 minute and another hand full voted for the 10 minute however, the overall majority voted indifferent. The movement eventually died out.  Either way most people just want to shoot.

Score -group -7 minute -10 minute -X count or points; every time I pull the trigger I give it my best shot.

Does anyone else shoot and if so, how do you deal with the cold?
Ray

It is not easy with the biggest deterrent being Brain Freeze.  Chasing tune during the day with 133 is literally hit and miss. Also recommend keeping naked bolt in your pant pocket as this can finish you off real quick.  I do not have the luxury of practice and often use this time to clean out left over lot’s of powder, bullets and primers.

It is also great to see friends that you haven’t seen for a while…………

I think you should call Jim up and ask him what he thinks.  He not only builds them he shoots them and, very well at that. Give him a call.

Kudo's to ATF.

I'll second that. - Eight days -  Sent mine in on the 1st and got it back today.

I usually apply in January so I can make it to Dunham's Bay and it's always real tight; even one year missing two shoots.  I think I will stick to November.

Probably BS……… but, here goes my speculative hypothesis.

Every producer has their own formula and process for Nitrocellulose and even still burn rates vary between lot to lot.  Part of the process is the addition of different stabilizers and or deterrents in order to control and maintain the ballistic stability. However, it may well be - changes of these same beneficial additives - that contribute in part to its recalcitrant behavior in the environment.
