Centerfire Discussions / Re: Is it worthwhile owning reamers?
« on: January 04, 2020, 10:57:28 AM »
Thanks Dan, good points, I think I'll pick up my own reamer this year.  I've seen the JGS 1045 recommended and I've been leaning toward a .268 or .269 no-turn neck.

Cheers,

Hi all,

I'm curious, is there really value for a shooter to own the reamer in BR?

(edited to fix a spelling mistake)

Thanks Rob and Pesky, I appreciate the advice and I'll post the details once I have them!

Hi all,

I'm considering picking up a used BR rifle from a friend of a friend and I'm curious what I should look (or look out) for when buying?  For 6PPC barrel round count is important, plus weight so I am in the proper class (I believe the rifle is LV but not 100%).  Any other ideas what to do?

Thanks,

Off Topic / Twin City Rifle Range contact (and a question)
« on: March 26, 2016, 06:11:38 PM »
Does anyone know how to contact Twin City Rifle Range in Ontario?  I'd like to visit, perhaps sign up for a membership (or sign up to the waiting list for a membership).  Also, could any members comment on the range distances?  A friend mentioned 600m, but I find that hard to believe.

Thanks,

-- Stephen

Thanks guys!  What are you using for neck turning tools?  Part of me is tempted to buy the Pumpkin, since I don't have a lathe, but the cost is pretty high for a cutting tool.

Thanks for sharing Dan, I did not occur to me that the case neck could be damaged by dropping.  It seems .269 will be the way I go.

You will still be neck turning with a .269", just not as thin. Unfortunately there is no money to be saved between the 269 and the 262. The 269 is a "light turn" neck. 272 would be a no turn neck, but this has proven not be as competitive.

Thanks Rick, but I feel the need to write that I have no intention of competing out west this year or next, so are you suggesting that a .262 is a better performer on average than a .269?  ;)

Hi all,

So after far too long, and one economy related job-loss, I've saved up enough to seriously consider my first BR rifle.  At the moment I'm strongly considering a Borden-built Rimrock rifle.  Money is still tight, so I'm curious what you think about .262 or .269 necks.  The hundred or so saved by avoiding neck turning does mean more powder and bullets for me to practice with.  So as a newbie, am I doing myself a favour by choosing a no-turn neck chamber?

Hi all,

I was wondering what your thoughts/opinions on neck turning were?  I know there are no-turn necks out there, and I'll admit that's tempting for a novice, but the consensus seems that there is at least some benefit from the consistent necks that turning creates..

Thanks Dwayne & Calvin for your input.

I figured that warranty work on the Sightron would have to go to the US, but I'm surprised with Weaver.  Given the US DoS rules, I'd really prefer not to have to deal with any cross-border purchases.

Right now I'm leaning toward the new generation Sightron, because while I live the Leupold competition scopes, those are more 2x the price ($700 vs $1550).  If you've got another source Calvin, let me know ;)

Still saving up for a used 6PPC rifle, and I'd rather not take money from that and put it into optics.  My rational side is saying that investing in good optics is worth it, as I'll probably have a custom built rifle in a few years to replace the starter, but... I guess I'll struggle with that for a bit longer, since I'm not planning on buying anything until April/May.

Thanks :)  And a belated happy new year guys :)

BR Equipment + Components / Re: harrell combo press

I ordered one from Harrell's last year, as I did not find anyone selling them in Canada.  Harrell's was prompt and the quality is fine.

Some time ago I promised a list of Canadian Benchrest equipment manufacturers and suppliers that I developed in my search for equipment.. finally, here it is.  Additions?  PM Rick or myself.

This is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all Canadian suppliers.  Only those who participate in and support the Canadian Benchrest community today will be listed.  The only possible exception is the action maker PGW, as Canada has so few action makers.

I have a Harrell combo press, which I am happy with.  It's capable of using normal dies as well as arbor dies.  It was more expensive, but justifiable given that I had dies of one type or another, not both.
