Rifles / SAKO FACTORY .338 LAPUA BARREL FOR SALE
« on: August 15, 2020, 10:00:17 AM »
This is a new, never installed, Sako factory barrel chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum. Factory blued, threaded, chambered and headspaced for the Sako M995 action (AKA model TRG-S). Standard factory 620mm length. Even though it is chambered and headspaced by the factory, it would be prudent to verify the headspace after installation. There is no calibre stamp on it as the factory has no idea how it will index on any particular action. $550.00 shipped to your door.

Stan;
If I'm reading this correctly, you are planning to keep the bag from a Sinclair rest to put on a Farley rest and you are including the bag that comes with the Farley in your sale of the Sinclair rest? If that is the plan, it may not work out for you. The Farley rest bag basket (unless they changed it in recent times) is slightly smaller dimensionally and requires a "Farley" size bag (probably why Farley includes a bag with a new rest). Your standard size bag from the Sinclair rest will not fit. Protektor and Edgewood both make dedicated "Farley" rest bags.

I just got a new phone a few days ago and I am still learning how to make it work. Haven't taken a photo with it yet. I will try on the weekend. Having said that, a photo likely will show nothing. The ring marks I refer to are not scratches, just very faint indications that the scope has been in rings.
For anyone looking to upgrade their benchrest setup, I will reduce the price on this scope to $1800.00 shipped to your door. This scope is in exceptional condition, in the original box with all the factory accessories and has always been reliable.

On a BR rifle, most shooters use Davidson/Kelbly style bases. There are others now making this same type of base but all that I have seen over the years are similar, if not the same, in height. If you meant rings, any standard height ring that is made for these bases will work. The companies that make the rings for BR rifles know what heights are required to mount the scopes. I prefer high Kelbly rings personally to keep my face away from the stock as much as I can.
The factory lens covers are still with the scope. I never had a need to buy leather covers.

The barrels I use are Hugh's cut rifled, 13 1/2 twist. I have shot lots of 14 twist barrels from Rob MacLennan in the past and I shot Rob's 13 1/2 twist barrels in recent years as well. I think I have shot a little better with Rob's and now Hugh's 13 1/2 twist barrels. I can't say 13 1/2 twist is definitively better. I'm a little thick headed so maybe I'm finally learning to shoot this game a bit better.

To answer your question, Dan - I have 4 rifles, 3 LV and 1 HV. All are Bat DS actions, R/R/R configuration, Bix N' Andy triggers, Scoville stocks, bedded and glued by Dwight Scott. The barrels on my HV and my "go to" LV are HWP barrels with Bukys tuners. For several years now I have shot Bill Mitchell's bullets exclusively and my chambering /gunsmithing is done by Randy Johansen, my friend and shooting partner. The magic lies with the barrels, bullets and the gunsmithing, not the components.
It was a pleasure shooting with all you guys at the Nationals and I am looking forward to seeing you next summer in Calgary.
