Eleven shooters showed up to compete in mild but damp weather.  Conditions were mild, although some sneaky patches did develop.

As usual, Paul prevailed in Benchrest, and Tim took Sporter in the "battle of brothers".  We also had more shooters in Sporter than in Benchrest, a somewhat unusual event.

Thanks to Paul for organizing the match.  Thanks also to Mel and Dereck who did the scoring and to Tim who organized the targets.

Next match is the Bob Goehring Provincial Championship on July 22.  Rumor has it our friends from Vancouver Island will put in an appearance.

Club Events / Jim Latham Memorial Score Match - Sunday, July 2, 2023
« on: June 18, 2023, 03:20:37 PM »
Mission and District Rod and Gun will host our annual Jim Latham Memorial VFS match on Sunday, July 2.

The course of fire will be 20 Score rounds at each of 100, 200 and 300 yards.  Bring 80 rounds or so if you preload.  Awards to third place at each yardage and the Jim Latham Perpetual Trophy to the winner of the Grand Agg.  Your chance for fame and glory!  We will shoot the 300 yard match first to allow for shot spotting in summer conditions.

This match has very few equipment rules - No muzzle brakes and no rail guns.  F-Open rifles are more than welcome!  Jim was always a fan of
cross pollination in the shooting sports...

Safety meeting at 8:45, Match begins at 9:00 am sharp and we should be done by 4:00 pm or so.

$40 entry fee - Clubhouse is open if you want to purchase lunch.

Pre registration is required, so please email me (markdumont750@gmail.com) or Joe (joemendham@hotmail.com) if you plan to attend and with any questions.

Club Events / Mission - June 2023 Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: June 04, 2023, 05:25:17 PM »
A smaller than usual crowd of 6 shooters showed up to compete in challenging spring conditions.  The wind was variable over time and over the yardage, with periods of mirage to add to the challenge.

With Pete away, Brendan stepped in to run the targets along with Vlad and Art.  Joe called the line, Art collected our money and did the scoring.  Thanks to all who pitched in.

Art completed a clean sweep, winning at both yardages.

Next match is the Jim Latham Memorial on July 2, an all-day match where we'll shoot Score at 100, 200 and 300 yards.  Hope to see you all there.

Nine shooters showed up to compete in lovely spring weather, with Cottonwood fluff providing a backdrop.  Conditions were relatively mild, with some slightly interesting patches.   We all shot in the same relay, so there was no "relay advantage."

As usual, Paul prevailed in Benchrest, but Tim took Sporter for a change.

Thanks to Paul for organizing the match.  With our usual scoring crew of Mel and Derreck absent, Paul and Brian stepped in to handle the scoring, while Tim organized the targets.

Next match is June 24.

Your humble scribe was attending the festivities on the centerfire range on this date, so here is Paul's report:

The weather was fine for our second shoot of the year, in fact by the afternoon it was positively warm. Some of our regular unlimited shooters were absent due to a big centrefire match going on that weekend but we still had 9 competitors.  We were happy to welcome a new shooter, Suzanne, who is a regular shooter in Mel's 100 and 200 yard shoots.  Paul won in the unlimited category and Derreck squeezed by brother Tim in the sporter.  Mel, who is a regular unlimited shooter, chose to lighten his load and shoot true sporter.  Good to see Mike back with us.

At long last, here is the equipment list...  Thanks to all the shooters for filling in the blanks!

16 shooters showed up to shoot our spring match in its expanded 2-day format.  They were greeted by very changeable weather - Cool for practice day, hot for day 1 and moderate for day 2.  Fortunately the forecast rain held off!

We had shooters from 2 provinces and one territory in addition to the local contingent and those who made the sea cruise from the Island.

Special thanks to our scorer Brendan and to Mario and James who ran the Targets and the backers.

Joe and Art called the line and kept things running smoothly.

Finally, thanks to all the shooters who pitched in to make the event a success.  It was always easy to find someone to lend a hand.

A special callout to Nobby Uno, a local benchrest legend who grabbed fourth place in the 2 Gun at the age of 88.  May we all shoot so well for so long!

Club Events / Mission - April 2023 Benchrest Group Shoot
« on: April 03, 2023, 03:30:38 PM »
In March, we shot Group as a runup to our BRSC Registered Spring Tuneup Shoot.

Winter continues to hold on despite the calendar.  The day started at about 1 degree, with rain, sleet and hail.  At the same time, conditions started calm but picked up as the day progressed.

We welcomed Ken Holmberg, who turned in credible rookie performance, including a match win at 200 yards.

Pete and Ken organized the targets, Art took our money and did the safety briefing and Joe called the match.  Despite a bad back, Allan showed up to measure the groups.  Meanwhile, Brendan stoked the stove - Much appreciated!

Our next match is our BRSC Registered Spring Tuneup shoot to be held on April 29 & 30.  There are still a few places available if you wish to register!

Five hardy shooters showed up to compete in temperatures around freezing with sleet and snow on the range.  Despite that, the winds were very calm.

As usual, Paul prevailed in Benchrest while Derreck took Sporter.

Thanks to Paul for organizing the match and to Derreck for his usual accurate and efficient job of scoring.

Next match is April 29, and we all hope the weather is a little warmer!

Club Events / Mission - March 2023 Benchrest Group Shoot
« on: March 06, 2023, 09:01:02 PM »
In March, we shot Group as a runup to our BRSC Registered Spring Tuneup Shoot.  We shot Score for most of the winter, and it became clear our group skills need work!

The day started at about 1 degree and dead calm for the first 4 matches.  As the sun came up, an unusual uprange wind started up and made for some interesting conditions.

Pete organized the targets, Art took our money and did the safety briefing and Joe called the match.  Meanwhile, Brendan stoked the stove - Much appreciated!

Congrats to Pete for his win at 100, along with some very impressive groups!

Our next match is on April 2 where we'll shoot Group again as a runup to our Spring Tuneup shoot to be held on April 29 & 30.  There are still a few places available if you wish to register!

The Mission club has allowed us to extend our regular Spring Group Shoot to a 2 day affair!

This will be a "standard" group shoot format, LV/HV at 100 and 200 yards.

You must be a BRSC member to participate, and guns must follow the BRSC/NBRSA rules for Light and Heavy Varmint.

Please contact Mark DuMont (markdumont750@gmail.com) or Joe Mendham (joemendham@hotmail.com) to reserve your space or with any questions.

Hope to see you all there!

Club Events / Mission - January 2023 Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: January 08, 2023, 05:21:50 PM »
After cancelling the December shoot due to weather conditions, 6 hardy shooters showed up to compete in wet but relatively mild conditions.  The day started dry and calm, then turned rainy as the edge of the storm that is pummeling California appeared.

Joe called the line, Art collected our money and Pete and Vlad ran the targets.  Thanks to all who helped.

With mild conditions, the 100 yard was particularly close, with only 4 points separating first from last place.

Joe took the 3-way tie at 100 while Art handily won both the 200 yard and the Grand Agg - Congratulations all.

Next match is March 5, where we'll shoot Score.  Hope to see you all there.

Club Events / Mission - November 2022 Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: November 06, 2022, 08:49:57 PM »
We had 7 shooters show up, and welcomed Bob Parsons shooting with us for the first time.  Hope he makes it a regular event!

Weather was pretty chilly, with sleet for much of the morning.  Conditions were generally mild, although they did build for a while at 100 before settling down again for the 200 yard segment.

With Joe away, Art stood in to call the line as well as collect our money.  Even with all these duties, he managed to handily win the 200 yard segment and lost the entire agg in a tie breaker.  The 200 yard win included a sizzling 107!  Thanks Art.

Thanks also to Pete, Vlad and Bob for running targets.

Next match is December 4, where we'll shoot a combined Group and Score match at 300 yards.  Hope to see you all there.

Club Events / Mission - October 2022 Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: October 26, 2022, 04:26:36 PM »
We had 7 shooters show up, with one regular called away for a family emergency.

Weather began calm with mist and fog, but as the sun came out conditions got more challenging for the 200 yard targets, with light but switchy winds.

Congratulations to Art for his win at 200.  One notable performance was Brendan's perfect 55 target at 100 - Well done!

Thanks to Pete and Vlad for running targets, to Joe for running the match and to Art for collecting our money.

Unusually short gap to our next match on November 6.  Hope to see you all there.

Last match of the season and another day of fine weather and mild conditions - A great day to be shooting!

As usual, Paul prevailed in Benchrest while Derreck took Sporter.  For some weird reason, I managed to eclipse Paul for best target not once but twice!

Thanks to Paul for organizing the match (and the year), to Mel and Derreck for their usual accurate and efficient job of scoring and to Tim for organizing the targets.

Next year's dates should now be posted on the club web site - https://missionrodandgun.com/events/

Our penultimate match of the year brought fine weather and mild conditions - A great day to be shooting!

As usual, Paul prevailed in Benchrest while Derreck took Sporter.  One unusual result was the 3-way tie for high score on the fourth target.  Even more unusual was that Paul was not involved!

Thanks to Paul for organizing the match and to Mel and Derreck for their usual accurate and efficient job of scoring.

Next match (the last of the year) is October 22.

Your humble scribe was off in Alberta at the Alberta Provincials, so Joe produced the following report:

We had 8 shooters show up for a smoky day.  Forest fires near Hope and Stave Lake created a weird atmosphere for shooting.

Two new shooters chose this match to join the regulars.

Congratulations to Art for his win at 100 and to Allan for winning the 200 as well as the Grand Agg.  This was Allan's first Grand Agg win - Well done!

Thanks to Pete and Vlad for running targets and to Joe for running the match, as well as all the others who helped out.

Next month's match is scheduled for October 23 and we'll be shooting group.  Hope to see you all there.

With Mark absent, Paul stepped in with the following commentary:

A small but energetic group for this match.  The weather was fine although the wind seemed to come up a bit early.  It was good to see Nev out to observe.  Hopefully he'll be feeling up to kicking some butt in the sporter class next time around.  Welcome to Bruce, a new shooter joining the group.  Nice to see him putting Ray's Anschutz 64 to good use.  ManKay proved to us once again that this is a game of ammo.  Switching from Spanish ammo to Lapua Midas basically doubled his score.  Mel is threatening to put the Vudoo guys in their place once he has the bedding worked out on his Anschutz 1710.   Rumour has it that Dave has a new Anschutz 54 that will be making its debut in the next match.  This time around, Paul took first in Bench rifle and Derreck won in Sporter class.
