Lake of the Woods Gun Club Rifle Division Holds 200 Meter Benchrest for Score Match      August 27th, 2017

The last match of the year was attended by 16 shooters. The early morning was cool and gloomy. By late morning the sun came out warming temperatures to almost comfortable in a T shirt. Wind conditions were moderate but switchy out of the north. Competition was thrilling and exciting with the lead changing hands with each target shot. Hunter Class winner Brian Prouty started strong and ended strong. Ken Chambers was consistent.

In Varmint Hunter Class, the rivalry continued between Gavin Carlson and Jack siblings. This time it was Donovan’s turn to grin.

In Varmint for Score/Open Class Calvin Yanchycki from Brandon finally beat the home boys in Kenora winning his first score match. His wind condition held long enough to machine gun 50 points on his last target to clinch the win. Second place Matt Cyr had not fired a centerfire shot since the 200 Meter event in August 2016. “Just like riding a bicycle” he said. Phil was hoarding his Nationals winning barrel and instead used a shot out barrel only suitable for a tomato stake to secure 4th place. Fun was had by all.

Hunter Class
1st Brian Prouty 218
2nd Ken Chambers 213 – 1X
3rd Spencer King 95

Varmint Hunter Class
1st Donovan Jack 231 – 1X
2nd Gavin Carlson 229 – 1X
3rd Brian Prouty 220 – 1X

Varmint for Score/Open Class
1st Calvin Yanchycki 247 – 4X
2nd Matt Cyr 246 – 3X
3rd Dwayne Cyr 245 – 5X

Many thanks to all competitors who came out to support the Rifle Division. Some travelled considerable distances. Thanks to Rod and Donovan Jack for the barbeque. Thanks to Target Crew Phil and Donovan, to Official Scorer Al Carlson, to the 3 Referees and thanks to RSO Dave Neilan for cracking the whip and keeping the relays moving. Now the plotting and scheming begins, new barrels, different powder, bullets, new rear sand bag, find time to practice and figure out how to do better next time.
