Cactus Classic 2011
« on: March 10, 2011, 06:32:15 PM »
Good luck to the Canadian contingent,  Doug, Max, Phil and Robert.  Give er HELL.............

Oh and Doug tells me it WILL NOT RAIN.  He says it was in the 80's yesterday and to be that way into the weekend.

Congrats to Robert Seeman for placing in the Top 20 in the 2 Gun and for Maxine Seib the Top 30 in HV100.

It appears Doug was sputtering and my little buddy Phil from Kenora did not make it there.

Way to go gang.

Another Canadian Bill McKereth made it to the event also.
Unfortunately he appeared to struggle a bit, understandable as it
us most likely his first major event, outside of a couple of matches
at Calgary.
What a minute, one of those Calgary matches was wake up, pack and
run before the bridge washes out.
Congradulations to Robert on his great performance, and Max needs to get
back to shooting, all this time off is making her a better shooter. Ha Ha.

This was my 4th Cactus and the first one with decent weather. In fact it was perfect. 80s all three days. Winds were light for Pheonix.
I flew in Friday am and out Sunday pm. Doug had bought some of the pulldown powder Bruno's was selling so we all shot it. It was dirty stuff but shot fine. Faster than 133, I shot 28.3gr. 29gr was way too hot. No magic powder.
Doug, Max and I all shot the on the same bench and used Doug's equiptment. I ended up shooting the 3lug as a right right and squeezed the rear bag as I had trouble with Doug's front rest.
It was good to catch up with everyone after the winter off. I have grown to like shooting at Pheonix despite the weather in the past. Anyone thinking about it should give it a try. NBRSA nats will be there in 2012.

Thanks for the good information about the Cactus, we all enjoy hearing what it was like to shoot any of the BIG matches. You did well in Phoenix for not having your own equipment Rob, congrat's.

I guess there is some merit to SQUEEZING the REAR bag...............

That is awesome shooting expecially after having to switch shooting styles slightly.

On a side note of the SEB rests I have tried, Robert's is the SMOOTHEST bar none.  I thought the rest I had and the bit of tweaking I did improved the rest but he has his PERRFECTED.  Maybe with time and more use it will smooth out a TAD more.

It should get a work out going around some score targets in April.
