Phoenix Nationals
« on: September 04, 2012, 11:16:04 PM »
Well it looks like I'm in for the upcoming Nationals in Phoenix in October. Just wanted to get an idea of who is planning to attend. I know Rick and Hugh are but is there anyone else?

Myself, Dan O, Wayne M, Robert S, but not sure about Jeffy.  Doug and Max will be there as well and I believe they are shooting.

Well planning out the trip this evening.  Wondering if my body has the strength to drive 1500 kms on day 1 and 1300 on day 2?????

Just me, Sirius and a bottle of Jack......

Possibility that there can be as many Canucks at Phoenix as there are at our shoots up here in Western Canada..........  I EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I have a laundry list of excuses ready to deploy at a moments notice..... "Gravitational surge" is the latest to join the list.

24 hours of driving time will get you there, however you wish to arrange it.

I will be there. I just need a few more excuses to explain why the bullets don't touch.

Ducks in row? Not even maybe. I'll have 12 hrs to prep when I get back from work. Being prepared is overrated.

1500 k's later and about 14.5 hours and I am in Rawlins Wyoming.  Hard place to find a room.  They say oil guys.  I am assuming pipeline??????

Good trip so far.  Worst part is around the oil boom in North Dakota around Williston.  So much construction and traffic.  Maybe lost 3/4 of an hour.

First time driving through the east side of Montana into Wyoming.  I think the scenery is breathe taking.  I have NEVER seen so many antelope in my life.  The last hour as the sun was going down Cal was in survival mode hoping they would not run out onto the highway.

Also drove by the Battle of Bighorn.  I never stopped in but I think I am going to come back home this way so I can stop off.  I can bypass Williston by staying on I-94 at Glendive and taking Hwy 83 back up into Canada.

Later and the rest of ya'll have a good trip down.

Cal,
Visited  the Custer battlefield a few years ago. It is well worth stopping, so try & give yourself lots of time.
I found it kind of spooky, maybe the weather conditions, or that Louise & I were the only visitors at the time.
Luck & drive carefull

Hey Cal, did you survive? And are you flying back? That's a tall 2 day drive.

After 25 hrs of driving, Dan Opel and I arrived in Phoenix on Friday 4 in the afternoon. It is still hot here. About 32C-35C in the afternoon. Lots of Canucks here: Hugh W, Rob S, Cal Y, and all the way from Ontario... Andy Laidlaw! Still waiting on Dan H, who should be here soon.

Our first practice day was today. Winds were light to medium at times steady, and then twitchy at 200. Many challenges dealing with morning loads vs afternoon loads.

Not all challenges were on the range, we had a shooter bitten by a rattle snake on Friday morning.

Sunday is another practice day. Then the fun starts Monday morning with the unlimited 100 8x(10) Shot matches.

Another warm day, about 32C. Epic traveler, Dan Henderson, showed up just in time to for the last practice day, and managed to get some groups in before the range was shut down at 2 to allow for flag setting. Tomorrow is the real deal, and we start at 7:30 am! Must be because the days are shortening. Will post some updates tomorrow night.

Today was quite a day in the world of 10 Shot unlimited. Numerous groups in the ones, with a lengthy battle between Mike Conry and Tony Boyer for top spot. Tomorrow is Sporter 100 and LV 100.

Tony Boyer shot this on his opening target for the 10 Shot Unlimited.

Results for SP100 and LV100 posted below. Andy Laidlaw is putting on a real clinic! Day was hot and dusty again. Winds were manageable by some! Real challenge is keeping the guns tuned throughout the day. Tomorrow morning is HV100 and then the NBRSA AGM and then flags moved to 200.
