Club Events / Mission - September 2022 Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: September 14, 2022, 03:56:52 PM »
Your humble scribe was off in Alberta at the Alberta Provincials, so Joe produced the following report:

We had 8 shooters show up for a smoky day.  Forest fires near Hope and Stave Lake created a weird atmosphere for shooting.

Two new shooters chose this match to join the regulars.

Congratulations to Art for his win at 100 and to Allan for winning the 200 as well as the Grand Agg.  This was Allan's first Grand Agg win - Well done!

Thanks to Pete and Vlad for running targets and to Joe for running the match, as well as all the others who helped out.

Next month's match is scheduled for October 23 and we'll be shooting group.  Hope to see you all there.

With Mark absent, Paul stepped in with the following commentary:

A small but energetic group for this match.  The weather was fine although the wind seemed to come up a bit early.  It was good to see Nev out to observe.  Hopefully he'll be feeling up to kicking some butt in the sporter class next time around.  Welcome to Bruce, a new shooter joining the group.  Nice to see him putting Ray's Anschutz 64 to good use.  ManKay proved to us once again that this is a game of ammo.  Switching from Spanish ammo to Lapua Midas basically doubled his score.  Mel is threatening to put the Vudoo guys in their place once he has the bedding worked out on his Anschutz 1710.   Rumour has it that Dave has a new Anschutz 54 that will be making its debut in the next match.  This time around, Paul took first in Bench rifle and Derreck won in Sporter class.

The Equipment List:

Maybe we now need a column for Tuner?  Maybe we should loose the column for Cartridge?  ...or Case?

Well, the cellphones let the cat out of the bag before I could post the "official" version, and Hugh Williamson repeats as National Champion.  Well done Hugh in some challenging conditions!

Special thanks to the rookie crew of Brendan and Kerr who stepped in at the last minute to run the targets and wrestle the backers in some very tough weather.

Thanks to Joe who called the line on day 1, and to Art who stepped in on day 2 when Joe was called away.

Finally, thanks to all the shooters who pitched in to make the event a success.  It was always easy to find someone to lend a hand, even in the heat!

Nationals 2023 have been awarded to Selkirk, Manitoba, hope to see you all there!

Yodave and his Army!

49
Well, Yodave's army came in from the Island ready to play, taking 2 of the top 3 spots in Benchrest.  In a score tie (rare for this discipline), Mike Pollen took the overall win, edging Paul in the tie breaker.  Great shooting Mike!

Now that Ray has left the field (maybe he'll show up next year as a part of the Army!), Derrick prevailed in Sporter class.

This is our big event for the year, and after the awards were handed out we drew for the contents of a well stocked prize table.  Mel showed very well there, taking home the Sightron scope...  I hear he's about to do a big investment in lottery tickets!

Thanks to all our sponsors:  Hirsch Precision, Italian Sporting Goods, Reliable Gun, Yodave Products and Ray Parkin.  Do your best to return the favor and support them!

Next match is August 13, hope to see you all there.

...and here are the results, with the Equipment List in pretty good shape.  To those I've missed, email and I'll fill in the blanks!

A shout out to the Rosebud Club for a great match in a beautiful venue!

And there's more - They now have windflags for out of town competitors to borrow.  One less tupperware to remember and bring!  Thanks for thinking of us out-of-towners.

51
This match is very much a "run what you brung" affair, so the following equipment list makes for some interesting reading!

52
We were back on our regular summer schedule for the match, and 11 shooters shot as a cold front moved in off the Pacific.  Conditions were a little unsettled to begin with as the front came in and we shot the 300 yard distance, but the drizzle descended and things calmed down by the time we reached 100 yards.

Special thanks to our out-of-town shooters who made the trek.

Thanks also to Pete and Vlad who ran the targets, to Art who scored and collected our money and to Joe who called the line and provided technical assistance.

Winners at the various yardages were:
300 - Mark DuMont 1st, Pete Talas 2nd, Joe Mendham 3rd.  (Tie broken between Mark and Pete.)
200 - Mark DuMont 1st, Joe Mendham 2nd, Pete Talas 3rd.  (Tie broken for third between Pete and Art.)
100 - Mark DuMont 1st, Joe Mendham 2nd, Pete Talas 3rd.

Results sorted by the Grand Agg numbers follow...

And some great pics from Richard!

Happy Winners - Mark, Joe and Pete

The Group - (l to r) Allan, Marshall, Rob, Ryan, Joe, Mark, Pete and Art (Richard behind the camera.)

The Rapier - 10.5 lb Light Varmint gun

The Broadsword - 21 lb F-Open gun

We're back to our normal summer date after last year's COVID-imposed shift.  We'll probably shoot the 300 yard match first to allow for shot spotting in summer conditions.

The course of fire will be 20 Score rounds at each of 100, 200 and 300 yards.  Awards to third place at each yardage and the Jim Latham Perpetual Trophy to the winner of the Grand Agg.  If you preload, you'll need about 90 rounds to allow for sighters.

Safety meeting at 8:45, Match begins at 9:00 am sharp and we should be done by 4:00 pm or so.

$30 entry fee - No lunch provided, but the clubhouse will be open if you want to purchase lunch.

Pre registration is required, so please email us if you plan to attend.

Contact me (markdumont750@gmail.com) or Joe (joemendham@hotmail.com) to register or if you have any questions.

It was nice that the weather is starting to warm up.  Paul won the Bench gun category and Ray, in what may be his swan song before moving to Vancouver Island, won the sporter.

Mel forgot his front rest and had to jury rig a front rest shooting off an upside down rear rest.  He still managed to shoot incredibly well, taking one of the high target scores.  He said it made him concentrate more.

Thanks to Mel and Derreck for scoring and Ray for tabulating.  Our next match on July 23rd, is the big Bob Goehring Memorial.  We're looking forward to YoDave's Vancouver Island Army coming over to put  us in our places.

Well, another one in the bag.  A small crowd of 11 shooters participated, we welcomed visitors from the Island and from the BC interior.  Special thanks to those who made the trip!

Weather was more than a little interesting, calm to start rising to snaky winds up and down the range.  Blew the targets off the wailing wall, now we know why Rosebud hangs them in the clubhouse!

Many hands make light work, and a big shout out to all those who helped setup, move and teardown the backers and to run the targets and backers.  Special thanks to Mel McIntosh who showed up for the day just to help and to Joe who measured while shooting and loading!

Good training session for the BRSC Nationals, which will be held this year at Mission on July 30 and 31.  Email me (markdumont750@gmail.com) or Joe Mendham (joemendham@hotmail.com) to register or with any questions.

11 shooters faced a cool spring morning with a threat of rain.  Winds were both light and variable.

Paul returned to his usual form to take the Benchrest class, while the husband and wife team of Ken and Cynthia Lyth managed a rare tie for second.  In the interests of domestic harmony, I won't mention that Cynthia won the tie breaker by shooting the better first target!

Derrick won the Sporter class, where we also welcomed Justin as a new shooter.  We look forward to seeing him as a regular!

Paul organized the match, took our money and called the line.  Thanks also to Mel and Derrick for scoring and to Tim for organizing targets.

Next match comes quickly on June 11, hope to see you all there.

Club Events / Mission - May 2022 Benchrest Group Shoot
« on: May 16, 2022, 08:35:33 PM »
In May, we shot Group as a runup to our Spring BRSC Registered Shoot.  All we really needed was some spring weather, but instead we got one of the wettest May days on record.  As usual, conditions started quite mild but grew in intensity as the day went on.

With Pete away, a number of people helped to organize, run and collect the targets, thanks to all.  Also thanks to Joe for calling the match and measuring the groups.

Congrats to Joe for winning the Grand Agg as well as 100 yards and to Vlad for winning at 200.

Next month's match BRSC Registered shoot is scheduled for Sunday, June 12, and we will welcome shooters from other clubs.  This will be a Heavy Varmint shoot at 100 and 200 yards with a practice day on June 11.  You need to be a member of BRSC to participate, memberships will be available at the shoot if needed.  Please contact me (markdumont750@gmail.com) or Joe (joemendham@hotmail.com) if you wish to register or if you need further info.

Finally, places for the BRSC Nationals held at Mission this year July 30, 31 are almost gone, but we do have one place left due to a cancellation.  Please email me or Joe if you wish to attend.

Club Events / Mission - April 2022 Benchrest Group Shoot
« on: April 06, 2022, 02:56:35 PM »
In April, we shot Group again.  We were just ahead of a large spring storm off the Pacific, and although conditions seemed relatively mild, pressures were dropping rapidly.  We managed to get things done before the weather started in earnest!

Pete was back shooting as well as riding herd on our targets.  A number of others helped run and collect the targets, thanks to all.  Also thanks to Joe for calling the match and measuring all 100 groups.

Congratulations to Ken Lyth for his .077 screamer at 100 yards!

Next month's match is scheduled for May 15, and we'll be shooting Group again.  This will be the last match before the BRSC Sanctioned Group Shoot on June 12.  Hope to see you all there.

Finally, places for the BRSC Nationals held at Mission this year July 30, 31are filling up fast.  Please email me or Joe if you plan to attend.
