Title: Eastern Ontario Benchrest Clubs?
Post by: lejarretnoir on December 19, 2012, 12:43:23 AM
New guy here looking to get into BR.
I use to remember Stittsville and possibly others, but never did make it there when I moved ages ago.
Any clubs and local centerfire BR matches around Peterborough to Ottawa area?

That's about 5 hrs from me. Seems like everything is locked down in SW Ontario.

They used to have matches in the Oshawa area which would be a little closer. Not sure if they still do or not.It was a great place to shoot, I got one of my first trophy's there!

lejarretnoir,

You may want to consider Northern New York.  The Camillus Club looks like its about 3 hours from Ottawa. I haven’t made it there yet but I shot a few times at their sister club Canastota, unfortunately not a active BR range anymore.  Good people and always helpful.

Good Luck and Welcome to BR

lejarretnoir,

They run non registered shoots through the winter months.  Contact Gerry Malerba for dates.

I did some load development at the Oshawa Skeet and Gun Club last summer.
No organized shooting of any kind.
A lot of pistol and assault rifle shooters.

we have not held any matches at Oshawa since before the club allowed the handguns on the range. Since there is only one line (direction of fire ) the range needs to be shut down for the match to proceed. It is such a busy club now 900 members I am told,  it would be quite a task to push this idea thru. A lot of screaming and protest to be sure.

That is bad news as the Oshawa club was a great place to shoot and they even built a nice loading building and everything.

I did find out that Eganville and Beachburg, ON have some local matches which I intend on checking out this spring. I don't believe they are registered though. I think they do VFS type matches.
