Simple question: If you were a bag squeezer and you could use lead shot in your rear bag (legally) would you? If yes would you use it just in the base, the ears or both?

Mike,
Interesting question. I think the bags are really heavy already, when just using play sand or heavy sand. I think my Edgewood mini gator is about 25 lbs with heavy sand. Not sure what advantages lead would have over heavy sand. There has always been a lot of discussion that bags can be too hard, I think lead shot would take you down that path, and the rifle would tend to jump or bounce out of the rear bag under recoil.

If your equipment is set up properly and your bags are not sticking to the stock regular play or beach sand are fine. I have a bag of heavy sand and never cared for it and I am sure lead shot will only make it heavier and distort the bag in the end. I am a squeezer and I would definitely not put lead in the ears.

Thanks all

I think lead shot in a rear bag would be the same as marbles. It is too round and would cause your bag to be like setting a gun on jello. Same goes for sand that is round. You want to use sand that has jagged edges.

In other words sand blasting sand that has not been used, not the used sand.

As Bill said......
Tractor Supply here in Brandon has 50 lb bags of the stuff fairly cheap.

I use the black sand blasting sand now and I'm just looking around at my options.
