I am putting this post up with the permission of Dave Abbott who is our WBSF delegate. It is not too early to begin thinking about participating in this event.
Details for the match can be found at http://www.wbc2013.com.au/
One of the first steps anyone who is interested in competing at this event needs to do, is to become a member of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH). Under WBSF rules only one organization from each country can submit a team. OFAH is the recognized organization for Canada. In order to be eligible for the team you will need to be a member in good standing with OFAH during 2012 and 2013. Take note the 2013 team will be selected during 2012. OFAH is a strong supporter of the World Team and this is very much appreciated by the shooters.
Interested parties can obtain an OFAH membership by mailing a cheque for $33.50 to:
Dave Abbott
4 PINE HILL R.R.1
BARRIE, ONTARIO L4M 4Y8
Dave can also be reached at: dave.abbott@sympatico.ca

It appears that we have our two teams set for the Worlds.
I sure would have likes to be able to have throwen my hat into the mix.
All the rest of us shooters that are not going will be cheering you all on and wishing you great success.
Thank you to the folks who did step up to the plate to represent Canada.

Just over 1 month away. I hope our teams have all equipment decisions made and are confirming everything is ready to go for competition. Is the Rosebud range open for the Western team to practice? All the best to our Team Canada members.
Rob
-
The amount of paperwork has been a real eye opener - won't be relocating to Australia any time soon...
We're learning Rosebud all over again - the range has a more predictable side now!
-
I merged the two topics, hope Rob and Bob don't mind. Just wanted everything in one place including our sponsors. Just over 1 week away. Most are leaving on the 14th, and arrive morning of the 16th.
Equipment decisions have been made, now packing decisions must be made!
I will try and keep this page update and you should also see results and pictures at http://www.wbc2013.com.au/

Latest update from Rick.
Trip was fine. Customs etc was fine no paperwork issues. Got to the range yesterday. Unpacked everything but didn't shoot everyone was exhausted. Today will be our first day shooting. Range is interesting as it is sort of cut into a hill lots of trees around. Winds will be fun!Hotel wifi is down.
-
Finally have some wifi!
It is about 32C here. Winds were out of this world on the Thursday practice day. More practice to follow today (Friday).
Most competitors appear to have arrived. Looking at about 85 shooters. Our designated team drivers (Dan and Hugh) have exhibited fantastic skills navigating the 30 kms to the range including numerous roundabouts taken in the seemingly wrong direction.
Pictures to follow once I find a download cable.
-
Friday practice was a nice day with light to medium winds. Conditions were readable. Mirage was nutty in the afternoon, often causing the scoring rings and mothball to disappear on the practice targets. Saturday is the last practice day.

Great pictures Rick, keep them coming as we are watching.
-
For those that are interested, the range is under a rather restrictive protocol to keep bullets from leaving the range. The overhang is only a few inches above the bullets path. You cannot see the targets unless you are seated at the bench. The overhang is designed to deflect bullets and also has a noise dampening material over it.
-
A few more pictures. Saturday was a great day. Nice readable conditions.
No shooting on Sunday, flag setting and a social gathering are planned.

fyi - I've never been to a range before that has a detailed protocol for how to deal with snakes. And of course the most common are in the top ten most deadly snakes in the world.
-
Hey, those patch catchers of Opels will never work. ;D Looks like everyone is having fun. Say hi to George and Vera and good luck to you all!
-
Keep the pics coming. All the best Monday.
What is the snake protocal?

Keep the pics coming. All the best Monday.
What is the snake protocal?
While all common sense is to hit the snake with a cleaning rod or run away with great speed (shooting it with your handgun from the hip like in Texas is just not an option here) - the best defense is no offense. Do not move, wait for the snake to get bored and move off on its own. Evidently the Eastern Brown snake is activated by movement.
A snake was seen during the morning flag placements today (in preparation for race day tomorrow!!!).
-
Best of luck to all you guys and Vera.

Thanks for the pictures. Best of luck to all the competitors.

Appears there may have been a fair bit of squirrely stuff going on down range?
Good showing Hugh. Keep your foot on the gas.
I guess I have to edit my post. I was not paying attention well enough. DUHHHHHHHHH Vodka maybe playing tricks with me............. DUHHHHHHHHH
George was 10th, Henderson was 15th, and Hugh was 20th in LV 100.
So you ALL keep your foot on the gas.

The above Link to the live results does not work. The site keps crashing from the volume so I guess they have said "the heck with it"
You can get the results at
www.benchrestbulletin.net
Along the left edge of the window you will find the tabs for the results. They post them about every hour and a half.

Found a site on the internet for the weather in Sydney, and it called for lots of wind for today and temps in
the low 30's. Lots of the shooters got caught by the results I saw at the 200 yard mark.
The site for weather in Sydney is "Weatherzone Sydney"

Fire report:
There are wild fires all around Sydney and there were fires around Penrith/Silverdale - which are where the main hotel and the range are located. The range was on a possible 15 minute evacuation call on Wed however, turns out the fire went down wind of the range by 2 km's. We heard the bombers flying overhead and the fire was put out - end of fire risk for the range!
Pictures of the fire equipment when we got back to the hotel on Wed. and there was 3 times this equipment show up after dark:

Back home as of noon today!
Met some great shooters and was an overall learning experience. Great to meet George, Vera and Andy for the first time as well!
Sounds like Canada will be able to have 3 teams in St. Louis in 2 years! With the new team qualifying protocol approved - it should work out well for those that want to go!
Time to go unpack!

It has been a pleasure follow the WBC event this past week.
Made all the better by the daily updates and posted pictures, post more if they are available.
It looked liked the conditions everyone had to shoot in were less than friendly, even the hometown teams had there struggles.
Thank you to all Team Canada members for your willingness to give up your time and manage the expense of this endeavor to representing our country.
Well done all.
DanO

There is a video being hosted at this link of the Australia event. It is a huge file something like 700 meg if I recall. Check it out if you have the bandwidth!
