Just checked the equipment list - didn't know Dan's 65.5gr bullets would work in a 30PPC  :o :o :o

Looks like that gunsmith named "self" has been busy!!

Fantastic event, even though I had a front row seat for lightning striking a tree at 350yds away! Sad to see the season finishing up at Rosebud - next year will be even better!!

83
All the grass is mowed and the range ready, now for the wind to pick up and we can get shooting!

84
Great shooting Hugh, Dan and Dan! In playing back my video recordings of the matches the camera hardly picked up any swearing - not very true of the firing line that weekend :-)

Great event Rick!!!! Well run, good turnout - even the devious conditions were a great challenge!!

86
Great event, good shooting and can't wait till next year!! Way to go Cal!!!!

Does flooding from the river affect access to the range? With all that snow around I hear the river is expected to have a news worthy flood in the making!!

That's pretty interesting/cool - what diameter are the necks (i.e. do they even change) since the water is in the case body at the start?

Shotmaster is where I bought mine last year. Good targets, nice to deal with. I still felt beat up by the price but I don't know how to get away from that...

Used a little oil on the cases and "wow" did it make a difference in how well the shoulders were formed after 1 firing.

Last year I was shooting a factory rifle from savage. I've got a couple barrels on order from Ted and am planning to accurize a couple of Remington's to compete with. I'm looking forward to this year as well!

BobR, I'm don't know many of the shooters by name, but a couple are Dale Janzen, a fellow named Jackson..
Any of them ring a bell? I just see their names on barrels as they go through the shop.
Any of them any good?  Ill try and get back with a few other names.
Tom

Given they didn't compete at any Fullbore matches at Homestead in 2012 - can't comment.
cheers,
Bob

I go to about 1/3 of the fullbore shoots at the Homestead range west of Calgary and have yet to talk to someone who is using a Ron Smith barrel... I don't survey everyone, just the shooters I get paired with. I placed 4th in FTR at this year's provincial competition so I'm not on the utter fringe of things.

The Canadian Barrel makers I know about (I generally use Ted's barrels and they have been very good):

                                   http://www.angelfire.com/blues/shootingpaul/gaillardpricelist.html -Ted Gaillard, Sask (306)752-3769
                                   Ron Smith, Alberta, (403)631-2405
                                   Rob MacLellan, Ont (705)526-2159

fyi - Canadian barrels cost more. On my last 3-4 barrels they are costing me ~$50 more per barrel.

This should not be taken as a slight towards Canadian barrel makers - I order most of my barrels from Canadian makers...

No one in Canada makes match barrels larger than 1.25" that I am aware of. That is why I got setup with Lilja.

Centerfire Discussions / Lilja Barrel order going in...
« on: February 19, 2013, 11:23:10 AM »
for anyone that is interested - I will be placing a Lilja barrel order in the next few weeks. They currently have a 16 week delivery time and require a 50% payment up front (I will need cash, bank draft, or cheque payable to me). Prices are listed on their website and I expect most barrels will come in under $400 after all tax+shipping is paid for. fyi - they produce barrels with a diameter in the 1.3" -1.5" range if you are looking for a barrel for a rail gun... I am listed as a Canadian importer on their website for those who may not know me...
Let me know...
cheers,
Bob
