This is Benchrest Phil! Have you surveyed the firing line? XL is the new normal! Sorry buddy, didn't get any Mediums done up. No plans for a second run at this time.

John, send me an e-mail with your zip code. I'll see how expensive it is. Turns out I can fit these into a 10x13 envelope and they go under a letter rate. It may not be all that bad.

OK my fellow fashionistas have I got a deal for you! In order to raise a bit of dough for the World team, and also raise the profile of our game in Canada I had some T-Shirts made with the approval of the Captain of the Canadian Team (Jeff).

The shirts have the Benchrest.ca logo on front of shirt, and an oops target with the phrase on back of T-shirt. They are a Gilden T-Shirt, one of the heavier weight fabrics, 100% pre-shrunk cotton, they are as high if not higher quality than you usually see for this sort of thing. There are 50 shirts available. I have 20 Large, 20 XLarge, and 10 XXLarge.

Pricing as follows:
$15 to cover cost of T-shirt
$5 to cover mailing
$5 Donation to World Team
Total is $25 each
e-mail me at rickpollock@shaw.ca to place an order.

Thanks!

After wanting one of these for years, decided to jump into the fray. Looking forward to getting it up and running. It is a Jay Young rail. I will probably use an action off one of my LV rifles and screw it on when I want to shoot the rail.

As far as anniversaries go it isn't much, but I am happy to report the benchrestforum.ca has made it to its first anniversary! As far as the goal of spreading the word about Benchrest in Canada, I think we are doing quite well. When I started this I didn't think we would even get 50 members! Well over 100 members now. All I can say is thanks to everyone for dropping in, and keeping this going.

Brian,

1/12 twist will easily stabilize the 66-69 gr bullets. Typical twist for 6mm in a PPC or BR with 63-68 grainers is 13.5-14.0 twist. You could re-chamber it to a BR, and it would work fine for getting your feet wet.

Not sure how the 6BR will fair at 500-600 with light bullets though, pretty sure I would use a fast twist 6BR and heavy bullets for that. But that is another whole topic, of which I know nothing!

Generally speaking what works in short range BR will end up being a purpose built rifle that doesn't do much else very well except shoot through the same hole at 100-200 yds. They make lousy field guns, or f class guns etc.

Being that you are in Sask you may want to get in touch with Ted Gaillard and talk things over with him. Ted recently mentored James G  in BR, and James is kicking our collective butts at the moment! James was in your shoes only 2 years ago. Both Ted and James pop in here once in a while.

Brian,

either of those scopes will work. You see more Weavers than Sightrons, probably because the Weaver has been around longer.

One of the key ingredients in the success of the PPC is the Lapua 220 Russian brass. It is very uniform, resists work hardening, can take lots of pressure, not sure what we would do without it.

Brian,

We will likely hold a introductory BR clinic at Rosebud this coming year. This would be a one day affair in May. The idea would be to cover the basics of of equipment, shooting a match, scoring, wind reading and anything else we can come up with. The Rosebud Club is west of Calgary about 80km http://www.benchrest.ca/Clubs.html if you can swing a trip West I am certain it would be well worth the drive.

Hi Brian, welcome to the forum. You are in good company here as we have a number of BR shooters from Sask, not to mention quite a few coyote callers as well!

Any of those rifles will work to attend a shoot with, and get your feet wet. In time your equipment will evolve into the BR specific cartridges and platforms. Don't be in a hurry to make a bunch of changes in your equipment until you attend a few shoots and get a feel for what people are using.

I don't know what Regina has planned for shoots in 2011, we will likely find out in the Spring.

Where in Sask are you?

Rick

I don't see an issue with you are doing. Any oil or PTFE residue will be gone after the first shot.

i think there is also an issue as to how to apply a layer of teflon and keep it uniform the length of the bore. Once you start shooting I think it would get stripped away pretty quick.

I suppose you could apply teflon to the bullets, just not sure anyone has figured out a way to do that. The various tumbled coatings we have now are pretty easy to apply. Have you tried moly or danzac?

For sure you can advertise it here. 200 tickets sounds good to me, you may end up selling more than that though.

Centerfire Discussions / Re: Why Don’t More Shooters Use H322?
« on: October 09, 2010, 04:47:57 PM »
Lawrence,

Lots of shooting and records were set over the years with 322. The problem is we are sheep to some degree. If some of the top 20 guys were advocating H322 we would all have it by the truckload! Over the last few years the powder of the day seems to be N133. XBR8208 didn't find favour. The old 8208 is still being shot by quite a few guys. Going to be pretty hard to knock N133 off the perch.

Congratulations Ted! Very impressive to say the least!
