If 2015 is made in Canada shouldn,t it be easier to get than an American or other country powder?

I've also seen people raving about LT32.
Is this the same product as Canadian 2015?

Thanks for the welcome back Calvin.
I've just done a 22lr stint and more than a few times wanted to throw the rifle in the pond.
Sometimes you just have to man up and keep on practicing.
22lr is such a different beast.
I see quite a few shooters also like H322.
I'll probably go with N133 because I know it works, but it never hurts to see what other powders, people are getting good results with.

I've got a new 6ppc rifle and am looking for powder choices.
With my last 6ppc I used VV N133.
Where do you buy your VV N133?
I am in Ontario
Is anyone loading with a more readily available powder and enjoying the results.
Thanks.

I use Patch Out.
It is from the same manufacturer, but seems a lot easier than using
the Wipeout.
I put a patch of accelorator down the barrel, then a patch of Patch out.
I let sit overnight.
Run a few dry patches and that's it.
The stuff smells good too.
I've never scrubbed my barrel.

Well Calvin..we got the answer.
I'm laughing..but just because,it proves I did not totally lose my mind
thinking that I was the the only man on the planet who couldn,t figure out why he couldn,t seat a bullet properly..
Thanks John for taking the time to set me straight on this.
There's a new one....a double ogive bullet...Jesus.
Yes,with the Wilson neck sizer you only can size half the neck.
It took me a few pulled bullets till I caught on.
I borrowed a friends Redding competition neck sizing die and that sized the whole neck.
The bullet still kept popping down, but I didn,t realize it was the powder it was bottoming out on.
I thought that maybe it was a doughnut.
I just received a Harrells die and it sizes more of the neck than the Wilson.
At the moment,I'm going to shoot this rifle without any further work on it.
I'll report back with my 6ppc Adventure..Part 3

Thanks Rick and Calvin for the advice on the shorter bullets.
I'll look into that.
Does Dan have a contact number or email?
In a trying sort of way I am thrust into a lot of rifle education.
Bullet length, different ogives,J4 jackets, pressure rings, etc. etc. etc.
It's all new to me.
It's all good.
I've never learned anything the easy way..lol

Good to see you can still chuckle after the ordeal Derek.

Like Dwayne says when it all begins to come together it is fun to shoot.  Don't get discouraged and remember about the SS.......... ;)

Later,
 Calvin

For a moment you lost me on the SS reference.
I can see it now,me and Lester sitting down,,chewing the 6ppc fat.

Are you shooting your new gun yet? How is it coming? Are you experiencing the trials tribulations and frustrations of tuning your first 6ppc by yourself or are you fortunate enough to have a mentor shorten up the process?

How about an update?

I'm learning by myself Dwayne.
It would be nice to have a mentor, but I'm walking this one alone at the moment.
I have been frustrated.
As Calvin stated,I was having a hard time seating the bullets to a proper depth.
I am using 68gr. FB custom bullets.
I have shot some of these and the groups are decent.
Then again,as a beginner I am part of the decent equation.
I have loaded for 223 and 6mmbr factory guns and never had a problem.
I now have come to learn my 6ppc chamber is cut as a short chamber and works properly with BT bullets.
Upon discovering this I took a BT bullet and presto, problem solved.
I can load a BT to any OAL..deep...long...it doesn,t matter.
The neck will hold proper tension and I can seat the bullet any where I choose.
Am I pleased in making this discovery.
Not really.
It was a lot of uneccessary trial and error
But I'm a newb and didn,t know better when having this rifle built.
I definitely know better now.
Hello Lester..yes I'd like to try some of your 68gr.BT bullets.
You seem to do well with them.
What? You'd like to build me a 6ppc to my specifications.
Let's talk.

Dwayne,
Thanks for the great reply.
It's going to be a fun summer shooting this rig.
I've already braced myself for possibly shooting badly for a while..lol.
Did you hit a point where maybe you thought you sunk all this money into a rig ,that was a dog.
After I did my first fireforming,a buddy asked me how the rifle shot.
I told him that the Weaver wouldn,t hold zero, the barrel was bad,the gunsmithing
was second rate, the stock didn,t track well, the wind was blowing too hard,I needed a better rest, and on and on.
It couldn,t have been me.

I had posted earlier on about waiting patiently for my 6ppc to be
ready at the gunsmiths and was asking lots of questions about loading for this round
and many of you graciously answered.
I received rifle a few weeks ago and I'm almost up and running.
I needed a bore guide and spoke with Mike Lucas, but he wouldn,t have a run ready till mid April.
Next step was to speak with TK Nolan.
No problem was his reply.I'll make you one up today and ship it out today.
Just send me the money.
"I trust you" he says.
Now I know the TK Nolan bore saver is a chunk of change, but you only live once
and when it arrived,I was very impressed.
TK is 71 and a little hard of hearing, but he's a pleasure to deal with and will talk as long as you have the time.
Next up,sent Walter Harrell some fired cases.
I should have die next week.
Walter is the same as TK.
A voice with a drawl and all the time in the world to talk.
I got 5 lbs. of N133 from Higginsons and a bucket of bullets from
Bill Mitchell,a custom bullet maker, not too far from my home.
I got a Wilson seater from Sinclair.
I've fireformed some of my brass and this weekend will start some actual testing of this rig.
It's going to be a nice warm weekend in Ontario...Yahoo!!!
I've got a lot to learn.
Thanks all for your advice and especially Calvin who took the time to
help me figure out how to load for the 6ppc and also how to  identify various genres of the Wasp species.
Here's a pic of Lil Red.

As a spectator is there a place where you can view the shooters and set up a spotting scope possibly.
Is there an admission charge for spectators?

« on: March 10, 2010, 05:11:36 PM »
I was ordering some parts from Sinclair today and the gentleman on the line was telling me about the upcoming Super Shoot in Canton Ohio.
I have never been to a BR competition and this one sounds good.
I'd love to spend a couple of days observing.
I live very close to Buffalo,NY and Canton seems pretty close.
I've done a google search, but haven,t come up with any info for this May 2010 match.
Any info greatly appreciated.

I'm going to be meeting up with Joe next week to drop off all the parts
for my rifle.
I'll be asking him some questions for sure.
Today I met up with Rob Mclennan and picked up my barrel.
It was a pleasure to meet Rob and he was gracious enough to
answer my 101 questions.
I asked him how I should break in my barrel.
He replied "Clean after each shot.
I asked"How many times"
He replied " For the first 600 rounds.
We both had a good laugh and I realized what a down to earth guy he was with a great sense of humor..

Rick & Calvin,
I want to thank you guys for taking the time to help me out .
I know you are busy getting this site up and running,so for you to take this extra time is
beyond the call of duty..
Your info is invaluable and just what I  needed.
I bought all the parts for this build from a good friend who decided to go a different route.
I bought 100 pcs. of new Lapua brass with all the parts.
They are turned and ready to fire for this rifle.
The rifle won,t be ready till sometime in March.
I will next buy some 220 Russian brass and turn it myself..
I will report back after I have made some headway on this journey..

Thanks Rick and cyanchycki for your help.
I do not have overly easy access to Bergers, but didn,t know that I may be able to get custom bullets here in Canada.
I will explore that avenue.
Understand that I have never competed and have to get up to speed on where I can get  some of my custom supplies. I haven,t even attended  a competition,so I haven,t been able to meet shooters and ask questions.
I think the Wilson inline seating die and Harrels die sound like the way to go.
I have the arbor press and a good single stage press.
Joe Groetch is going to build the rifle for me and he will supply the reamer.
Yes it is a .262 chamber and my brass is at .260....my apologies for not making that clear..
I thought I would use Vihtavuori N133 powder to start.
If I go the Harrels route and the Wilson seater, how do I procede.
I take my new unfired rifle with new unfired brass.
Should I use an expander mandel on the new Lapua brass, before I load it.
How do you fireform your brass?
Do I trim before  fireform?
How do I necksize the cases  for fireforming if if I have to send the fired cases to Harrells first and wait for the die.
If I have to fire the cases several times before sending them off, don,t I have to size them each time I fire them.
God, loading .223 and 6mmbr was like being on Sesame Street.
I admit I am dumb to loading 6ppc,but once somebody sets me straight,I'm good to go.
Thanks for your help.

Hello All,
My first post and a lot of questions.
I am currently putting together a 6ppc rifle for br shooting.
I'm new to 6ppc,so have some reloading questions.
I have an arbor press and a standard press to load on.
I've got the 6ppc cases necked down to .262.
The barrel I will be using is a Mclennan 13.5 twist.
I'm pretty well open on dies and bullets and any other tools I may need.
I was thinking trying the Berger 68gr.Match FB bullets to start with.
I've also used the Wilson Neck sizing and seating dies and was thinking of buying a pair of those.
Yes, I am a newbie and welcome all advice.
Thanks,
Derrick
