We are less than 2 months away.  It seems like a long time but in reality it is not that far off.   I figure this is the easiest way to touch base with everyone who may be attending.

In regards to the AGM there is not a lot going on that I have heard that needs addressing.  If you know of anything please contact me via e-mail.  My e-mail is cyanchyc@mymts.net.  In other words the AGM should be very short and just a matter of going thru the motions.

The weekend plan is as follows.

FRIDAY:  The range will be available for practice Friday.  I believe it will be shared with the public.  If I had my way it would be otherwise.
I want to start the AGM at 17:00 and be done by 18:00.  I also plan on assigning benches Friday.  PLEASE, if you are attending the sooner you can let me know the better.  This will give us an indication if it will be 1 or 2 relays.  Benches will be assigned and those who just show up will be filled in.  This will give the 1st relay shooters an opportunity to get there equipment in place to get the ball rolling ASAP Saturday.

SATURDAY:  Shooting will begin with LV 100 in the AM.  Lunch break.  I hope we may be able to have Pizza brought in if there is enough interest.  Otherwise lunch will be a fend for yourself.  PM will be HV 100.  There is nothing at this time formally planned for supper.  If you want we can try and get a location that can host a group or just go our seperate ways in Selkirk.  I know there will be a GAGGLE staying at the Selkirk Inn and Conference Center.  I urge you to book your rooms now if you are attending.  There is Smitty's restaurant and a lounge next door.

Sunday:  Begin shooting ASAP.  I want to do my best to get the traveller's out of town ASAP.  Not that I want you to go but I know what it is like to travel long distances.  AM will be HV 200 followed by a lunch break.  PM we wind it down with the LV 200.  Followed by the awards ceremony.

If you have any questions or suggestions contact me at the e-mail address above or many of you have my phone number so call.

There may be a few changes before the shoot but I will keep everyone up to date.

Murray was talking about maybe having a weiner roast Friday at the range.  Let me know your thoughts and we will go along with the general concensus.

Look forward to seeing everyone.

Centerfire Discussions / Jewell Trigger Tune Up
« on: January 25, 2013, 09:07:31 PM »
Some of you are aware that recently I have been tearing appart my triggers and polishing up the internals to smooth them out and crispen there break point.

I then get asked "would you do mine?"  My answer "you can do it.  It is not that hard"  The conversation ends there.

I have decided that I am willing to polish triggers for a fee of $50.00+ return shipping to your address.  At the present this is for BR triggers only.  Turnaround time will be as a first come first serve basis.  Basically a trigger an evening.

I can adjust as well but you may have to fine tune it to your action.  I may in the near future have some spare springs on hand in case they are in need of replacement.  Quite often you may have a trigger with a poor spring.

If you are interested, PM or e-mail to cyanchyc@mymts.net

Off Topic / Trauma Kits for range
« on: November 14, 2012, 06:30:41 PM »
So I have been talking with my buddy lately in regards to the possible need for a trauma kit.  I have heard of a few close calls with IPSC shooters and there pistols......  Go figure.....

There is a cost to these kits but a lot of items appear to not be required.  It would be cost effective to piece the kits together.  This is where we run into a bit of a discrepency.

We are trying to decide which powder to include in the kit for the possiblility of sealing a sucking chest wound or any major gunshot wound.  We know 133 is fast and clean burning, less chance of infection.  But would it be effective in sealing the wound of a larger man/wound or would it be to fast?

The latest lot of XBR 8208 is pretty dirty burning, more chance of infection.  or would we better off with different burn rates depending on the size of the man/wound?

I figured one of those palm sized butane torches with a butte knife would cauterize the wound.....

Your input would be appreciated.

Do those who may want to plan ahead I was looking through the 2011 Board minutes.  It appears Fairchance PA has the bid in for 2013 with a stipulation that they change there dates from August to September.  If not St. Louis is prepared to host them.

For 2014, Kelby's has sparked interest.  My thoughts are this would be a trial match for the world's.  Then again they host the largest BR shoot in the world every year.

I guess we will know for sure after this years Board meeting.

Just a heads uup for anyone who may be interested.

Centerfire Discussions / Graham wind Flags
« on: July 13, 2012, 05:07:59 PM »
I figured I should share this with everyone.

Are you in need of a set of GREAT compact windflags?

If you drive a Ford Ranger like I do space is at a premium.  If you are my buddy Jeffy, you drive a 1 Ton Ford diesel...................  How embarrasing for me............  Space is not an issue.

Robin driving a 1 ton 4x4 Ford pickup.................  Yum Yum...................  I'm bad...............

Anyways, Rick Graham has just the product for you.

His Tool Box Flags.  I bought this set when down in Billings.  The set came with the 8 Flat Top Flags with the large veins, High Vis Vinyl with arrows and the 8 balls.  Rick will also make any adapter that you require for your stands.  I am sure when you order a set a set of adapters comes with the flags.  I am sure Rick will chime in.

Rick informs me that he also makes a Daisy version Tool Box Flag as well.  For details and pricing you can contact Rick.

Not that I needed another set of flags but I could NOT pass up the compactness when I saw them.

are ready and have been e-mailed to all current paid members of BRSC who have given e-mail addresses.  Those who do not have an e-mail ( 2 members out of Selkirk)  I will give them their copy at the shoot in August.  If you are wanting a copy of the minutes notify me by e-mail or PM.

Just realizing it I will have the ballot ready to go before August 18/19, 2012 so I can hand them out to the paid members in Selkirk to save postage.

In regards to the BRSC Records procedure and the Rules documentation Rick has agreed to post this info on the Forum when it is all ready.

Thank you

Just a reminder that 2 weeks from tommorrow is the Nationals at Rosebud Silhouette and Benchrest Club.

Friday will be the AGM Meeting hopefully starting at 5PM.  I want to keep it short and sweet.  The agenda has been e-mailed out to almost all paid up BRSC members.  If you have not recieved it and you are interested please e-mail your request before Tuesday.  After that day I will not be available as I will be leaving for Montana on my way to Calgary for the Nationals.

I need to go as light as possible so I will not have my PC or printed copies for everyone.  If you can and you are attending print a copy off for yourself to bring along.  The key things I want to get hashed out and finalized for a general membership vote is the Rules document and the records procedure.  I will also be looking for a volunter along with our secretary to go over the converted BRSC Bylaws.  I converted them to word and it is just to proof read the document to make sure nothing was missed.

Any questions get in touch with me ASAP.

Photo And Video Gallery / Weekend Range Project
« on: June 03, 2012, 09:30:43 AM »
Thought I would share my project from yesterday.

I am putting up a bench hugging a tree line that runs North and South.  It will only be for 100 yards but it is in a very nice spot.  VERY SHELTERED from the wind.  So the days it is howling out I should be able to get some decent testing.  It is fairly shady in there as well.  I may be able to set a table slightly further back and get out to 150 in this location as well.

I dug 3 holes as far as I could go with the hand post hole auger.  About 4" down.  Okay 4' down.  The frost should never get to deep there as when the snow falls in that area it just falls and sits.  I am using 4" Electrical conduit that I found at a VERY CHEAP price, FREE.  Had a few bags of ready crete at the farm that I mixed in with a bit more gravel to firm up the poles and Plumb them with my fence post Plumb jig.  Anyways this is where I am at.

Next trip out I will cut the conduit to height, fill with ready crete and set the top on.  To hold the top secure in the legs I am using 12" bolts that will screw into long threaded nuts that I welded to the rebar before I poured the top.  We will then use the tractor and loader to lift the table top into place.  Should end up as solid as Cal needs.

I am also looking at getting a used insulated cargo container about 14-16' long to act as my loading shack.  I have a lead on a box from a service truck.  Still has all the bins and a work bench in it.  The price may be right as well.  Lets just say cheaper than a garden shed and it is insulated.

I still have a concrete bench set out on the bald open if I want to shoot and test at 200 yards.  It is wide open grassland so the winds have to be manageable to test there.  Maybe if I shoot the open enough Phoenix will be a little less hard on me in October.

Enjoy

BRSC - Benchrest Shooters Canada / Selkirk May Match Day 2
« on: May 13, 2012, 09:58:08 PM »
Well today started out early with the wind most definately stronger than it was yesterday.  I was in the shower by 5:45 AM and at the range by 6:45 and began to think to myself that today is going to be mighty interesting.  It was to a point but even though it was blowing good the conditions were readable and repeatable.  This afternoon there were a few times when it got a bit squirly where it gave some 180 degree reversals.  I think I found a new respect for my wind probe in the wind.  I listened to what it told me.  I do have faith in what it says.

Anyhow to the results.

I hope to have some pictures up in the next little bit.

This is it until the Provincials in August where I hope to see a few more shooters come out and brave the winds of the Prairies.  Gord Wald informed us that if he has his way he will not see us in August.  Gord has been waiting a LONG TIME for total knee replacement and hopes to have it taken care of shortly.  Oh and as a side note he is willing to lend his rifle out to anyone who would like to shoot it at the Nationals..........  Yah right.

Until next time.

As Chris Ross would say "SEE YAH".

BRSC - Benchrest Shooters Canada / Selkirk May match Day 1
« on: May 13, 2012, 05:27:59 AM »
Just want to start off by saying how skeptical I was in regards to this match.  When I got there everything began to change for the better.  I shot a bit with the WASP rifle and realized that I enjoy shooting Selkirk as it is a readable range to shoot.  I was in a happy place.  Then slowly but surely the fellas began to drop in which even made it more enjoyable.

Day 1 started of sunny and cool in the AM but warmed up rather nicely by mid afternoon.  Winds were brisk (never pulled the Kestrel out) but it was roaring over the trees along the left side of the range.  The conditions though were repeatable throughout the day.

Day 1 results showed us that HUMBLE Gord Wald demolished the field in both the LV and HV 100.  Gord shot personal bests in both aggs.  I tried to nip at his heels at one point in the HV but could not catch him.  I do believe that Lilja barrel that he srewed on at the Nationals is a KILLER of a barrel.  I think he can do NO WRONG with it.

Anyhow here are the Top 3 for both.

LV 100
.1834  Gord Wald
.2264  Murray Benson
.2416  Grant Schick

HV 200
.1796  Gord Wald
.2036  Calvin Y
.2460  Lyle Linkaitis

As you can well see Humble Gord Wald DEMOLISHED the Field.

This morning the wind Is a lot stronger so we will see what 200 has in store for us.
