Paul, I see shooting 2 ways.

One way is why handicap one when they want to ring the best out of your equipment and what you want to achieve.  In other words top notch equipment and ammo.

Or

You limit how expensive of ammo can be used.  Yes in ways it defeats ones purpose but I look at it this way, if this is a make or break on whether people will begin to shoot and matches take off again,  I will sacrifice the ammo to have matches.

Sometimes you have to dumb things down a bit to maybe get people hooked.  Just my way of looking at.

In general, the cost to shoot has jumped what maybe 50% higher?  Why?  Just because of things that happen south of the border and the difference on the dollar.  In my eyes things went crazy south when Obama got in and it has never recovered and never will.

Regardless, many of us still find a way to shoot enough to keep us happy.

Why be bummed?

You can turn that around.  Get involved with a club closest to you and make it happen.  Rimfire BR may not be big in Canada at this time but with a bit of work that can be turned around.  Score matches are the easiest to hold.

Are those all score shoots?

If so, how are you scoring and what target you using?

Counting X's or the X as an extra Point?

Whichever will kick butt......lol

I said to myself, self, why do you need a 30BR?  Answer, cause if I do not, i will likely no longer shoot score.  Hard to shoot against 30's with a 6.  Thus to shoot and have a chance at winning the 30 is a must now.

Going to build it as a light so if and when border opens up i may shoot some score across the line.

Twist likely a 17.

Going to switch my original Bat rifle which has won I believe all but maybe 1 group match into the dedicated score rifle.

No Luck.

I am ordering everything.  Unfortunately the exchange hurts.  Reamer on order from JGS.  Wilson seater, Redding neck bushings from Brunos.  Neck turning gear from K&M.  Use K&M already for the PPC.  Bullets on order.  Just have to order another box of brass, a #3 Harell sizer and a barrel.

Just checking to see if anyone may happen to have any of the following.

30BR Wilson in-line seater
Harrel's #3 sizing die
Neck bushings in .324, .325, .326

Maybe even a box of NEW lapua 6BR brass

Way to go guys.  Was fortunate to be at 2 of the matches where records were shot.  Tyler's at Selkirk and Dwayne's at Kenora.  It was something to watch and see.

You guys deserved them.

What an awesome event. Kenora is one of the nicest places to shoot.  The range is tricky at best of times especially with all the intermediate backstops.

Dwayne put on a clinic.  Slow and steady as usual when on the clock.  It paid off in the end with the switches.

Congrats my little buddy.  And to Phil who came in a distant 2nd......eek and those of us who were even further behind.

Look forward to next year.

Take care and stay safe.

FYI the current HV 100 range record in Selkirk was a .1752.  This was set by Harold Wasnie in 2002.  In 2008 Maxine Seib tied that record.

Tyler's .1678 ends up as the NEW range record.

Winners are...

L to R
Dwayne Cyr
Tyler Edmund's
Hugh Williamson (HWP Precision)
Graeme Meyer
Grant Schick (known as Professor)

On a side note or sad note I should say, this will be the last match at Selkirk as we know it.  Next year will find intermediate backstops at 25, 50 and 100 yards.  The flat prairie will no longer be.  What will the winds hold for us next year?

The rest...

Thanks for the results Rick.  Also congrats to Hugh on the win.

I am sure there were a lot who would have liked to have been there.  To those that attended, I am sure you gave it your best efforts.

The print shows a .262 neck.

In other words you will have to neck turn brass.  It is not like a .269 or .268 where you would have to.

Rimfire Discussions / Re: New here, looking for barrel advice
« on: January 26, 2020, 05:34:43 PM »
I am by no means a expert.

First off you mention practical matches.  The accuracy part wanted or needed is that of a true rimfire BR rifle?  I am assuming you are talking a rifle that is more conventional than BR?  Meaning conventional stock versus 3" wide.  This would be a repeater and not a single shot?

What rules regarding the rifle configuration?

Anyways, the best way to look at barrel length is, you have to use a smith who understands rimfire builds.  Length for a BR rifle is based on the slugging of the barrel to cut it at the tightest point.  It is also nice to get a good balance point when achieving this.  Rimfire chambering is another animal.  There is some lapping involved to do the perfect rimfire chamber.  I know I may get flamed for this but you are best to talk to a top smith States side.  I know if I were doing a build it would be across the line and imported in.

Barrel, as Dennis said many good ones but my choice would be a Shilen Ratchet.

About all I can say on this.
