Title: Silicone spay vs carnauba wax
Post by: James G. on January 23, 2011, 04:35:14 PM
Anyone have input regarding using silicone spray compared to carnauba wax for your front and rear cordura tops. I understand that carnauba is a wax, but for our cordura tops in comes in another form. Not sure of the benifts one over the other or where to get this " magic" wax.

James, powdered carnuba on leather bags and Silicone spray on Cordura bags.  Powdered Carnuba is from Sinclairs.

The other key is to use stock tape.  A lot do not use stock tape but it saves the finish on the stock as well as a slick surface.

My thoughts.

I second that.

For the past few seasons I have been using powdered carnuba wax from Sinclairs with no stock tape. The surfaces on my Robertson's stock were as smooth as glass when new. Now its scratched lengthwise from the carnuba wax particles. The scratches might be polished out but I'm going to cover them with stock tape.
Live and learn.

Thanks Calvin, I guess I will stick with silicone spray.

this may be a dumb idea but wouldn't floor or automotive paste wax help reduce scratches if you didn't use silicone tape? at least it should cover them up.

It may work but there is NO substitute for the tape.
