Keith, I myself am starting to look at Rimfire BR from a Centerfire BR shooter.
Any COMPETITIVE shooting off of the bench makes you a better wind reader. Rimfire versus Centerfire slightly different animals in what you can control. The bottom line, you cannot control the wind. You learn how to use the wind along with a finely tuned rifle to hit the 10 ring or to stack bullets on top of one another.
The biggest thing I get from talking to people about the game is they have NO idea how in depth it is to make a rifle shoot small groups. How 3/10's of a grain, neck tension, seating depth to name a few can be an effect of how small your groups can be. Then there is the wind........ Oh the lovely wind....... The wind can be your friend if you learn to embrace and love it.
When a rifle is working, and you figure out a condition to shoot, it NEVER gets boring shooting tiny dots.
The Rosebud BR shooters are doing what more of us need to do, pass the word along. We hear all to often how stuck up BR shooters may be. We are not stuck up, we are VERY PASSIONATE about the sport. Yes, sometimes we are very anal about what we do, but let me tell you to win, you need to be anal.
Anyways, I am glad to hear you all enjoyed the session. Remember, this Forum, so GRACIOUSLY run by Rick, is a place where you can ask away. We may not know it all but we will do our best to try. If not, most of us know people who will know.
I even hear on a regular basis that one does not need to shoot in the US to learn, trust me, you will be overloaded with info after attending a match down there. A lot of us in the West are the NEW generation BR shooter still learning the game.
Keep them tiny,
Calvin
