Title: New Sinclair front rest.
Post by: Gary Cain on June 06, 2010, 09:21:35 AM
I was on their web site reading about their new front rest. It looks really impressive with all the up to date features. It is the only rest made in the $600 range that does not come with a front bag installed, they want you to turn around and buy their Edgewood bag for another $60. Any comment on the new rest and or their marketing ideas?

Gary, I still prefer in the design scheme of things what JJ has for there windage top.  Something about a top that pivots that lends me to believe of binding.

What good is a rest without a bag?  It is like a car with just 2 tires and you ahve to buy the other 2......

Hi Gary, I think it is a good idea that Sinclair does not sell with a bag as there are many different styles of bags on the market and depending on the type of shooting, different widths. I still think that one of the optimum rests is a Cain made right in Canada

Yea I will be at WWCCA on the 16th to the 21st. This will be a change, it looks like I will only be shooting HV until my new LV gets built so I only have to shoot Sat afternoon and Sun morning.

I am just getting into benchrest and am thinking seriously of replacing my lead sled with a quality front rest.  I'm impressed with the Hayes rest and would appreciate hearing from you as to what windage top you advise with that rest?
Thank you.

What do you want a windage top for ?????????? You are either a bag squeezer or a Farley type shooter. I have seen so many shooters get screwed up with a windage top then any thing else. By the time you have adjusted for the wind with that stupid screw, and get your hand on the bag the wind has changed. If there is a hard blow, why would you want to shoot anyway???? A bag squeezer, (me) can adjust quickly at the last fraction of a second, as with a Farley type rest. Just as a point of information, Tony was a bag squeezer up until a few years ago when he got arthritis in is left hand, I think he uses a Farley now. Just my thoughts!
