BRSC - Benchrest Shooters Canada / SABRA Update
« on: September 04, 2025, 09:30:21 AM »
Hello everyone, the Southern Alberta Bench Rest Association (SABRA) is happy to announce that we are still active. We understand that many of our fellow shooters are curious to know if SABRA is operational. With every new group there is always a huge learning curve and we accept that we were very determined to start the group but realize time management for this type of project is difficult when we all have careers. The following is a small update with a glimpse of events to come.
The SABRA Executive is as follows; Tony Jansma is the SABRA Chair. Dwayne Rogness is the new Secretary and Madeline Balla remains Treasurer. Our membership remains small but the experience of these few members is enormous and a great benefit for anyone seeking knowledge in the firearms sports .
Our two primary objectives to promote and grow bench rest shooting in Southern Alberta, and bring a new range into the rotation for sanctioned matches is ongoing. Communications with the MD of Taber Sport Shooting Complex (MDTSSC) have brought MDTSSC membership to the table to confirm the addition of a clubhouse for reloading during events at the 200 yard range. They have added one power outlet to the 200 yard range that can accommodate reloading behind the shooting benches. This shooting facility has great potential for future matches.
SABRA goals for 2025 were to add cleaning benches at the MDTSSC, develop a portable target and backer system, which would let us have a trial match to fix any problems, and then host a sanctioned group match. These goals will not all be accomplished this year. The target backer system for the ShotMarker is being completed by a local fabricator and we expect to have them soon.
Like many new groups there are growing pains and we realize our enthusiasm far outweighed the ability to accomplish all of our goals. We continue to move at a manageable pace that will have us in a position to host an event in 2026. Stay tuned for more updates.
Thank you,
SABRA
