Regrettably, I wasn't even able to make it. With over 100 hour work weeks along with some personal things, it just could not make it into the schedule. I haven't been able to get a hold of  JC to see how things went but, hopefully I will be able to have one this summer when things quiet down.

It is in Bouctouche just north of Moncton, NOT Batouche near Camp Gagetown. It will be on the 23rd.

The way things are going now, not even sure if I'll be able to make it :( The match will still be going though since it's not my range.

So do we all just need to get into a Zen state before and visualize shooting perfect scores?

Greg, This really sounds like a great way to start out, lot's of good ideas to help keep the cost down as well, which is great when you aren't sure if people are going to show up or come back..

Having some reactive targets are great as well, a bad day on the rifle range is usually forgotten by an afternoon at the skeet club. It's a good feeling when that clay explodes  ;D Anyway, let's stay on topic...

It may be fun to have some of those "know your limits" targets as well to shake things up. I'm sure there will be more questions, I just haven't thought of them yet :-\

Cheers,

Yeah, it may be just for score at all ranges, it will likely make things run smoother especially for a newer group of shooters(myself included :-\). As far as I know they are not moving backers.

K.I.S.S I Guess....

Well, we still need to get a better idea of the number of people going and what they will be shooting. I would think for score would be a good way to go for the first time out. But, I was also thinking that if we move back to 600, a "for group" match might be better?

Centerfire Discussions / Targets - which to get?
« on: March 16, 2010, 05:49:59 PM »
Hello all. I am trying to get an informal BR match setup in the Maritimes and I am looking for a place to get targets. Sinclair's has the 100/200 yard for group and score targets but we may need some for 600 yards as well. Any idea where I can get my hands on some? They don't have to be NBRSA approved or anything but I would like them to be as close to the real thing as possible. Any tips, questions, comments, concerns etc.. are appreciated.

Cheers,
   Spencer

Hello all, we are still trying to iron out the details but there will be a BR shoot in Bouctouche, NB on either May 16 or 23. It is a 600+yard range with shoots being held at 100 and 200 yards as well as 500 and 600 yards. We are still trying to figure out numbers and classes but if anyone is interested please do not hesitate to contact me. Will update as we work out the details.

Cheers,

A little surprised, nothing along the lines of the classical "wind flags just lie anyway"

Looks good though, how much are you selling them for?

Good read. So the group size isn't effected as much by powder charge when in the sweet spot as it is when in sour spots. Now the challenge comes in finding the "sweet" spots and being able to stay in it during weather changes and if you get into a sour spot, how to correct to get back into the "sweet" range. It would obviously be easiest to find these spots if you have a rifle capable of the accuracy needed to get the data and plot the graphs, my equipment is not at that point yet.

Believe it or not, the digital calipers from Crappy tire are very accurate. I had an old co-worker of mine, an old tool and die maker, check my $20 calipers against his $$$ mitutoyo's and mine went perfectly along with his. Needless to say, I was happy I only had to spend $20 on an accurate set of calipers.

Wow 170+ acres and 61 million dollars later, you get a sweeeet *** range.

They look good, and they have a readability of .05grns. I also saw one on there called the Mack 20 precision, claims the same accuracy for $15 less. The thing I can't believe is, they have a 20year warranty! Seems to be a really good deal.

Shooting a .223 in F-class, even the slightest deviation is going to drop me a point the farther back we get, and if I only use a scale that claims .1grn accuracy, in reality there could be a .2-.3grn difference between all my ammo, and that is not desirable. I am on a mission to see what kind of accuracy is attainable with my current setup while upgrading some of my reloading components and it seems a good scale is definitely in order.

Makes me wonder about what all you BR guys use for scales? I hear the Prometheus is just about the best on the market, but at over $1200 it "tips the scales" to the wrong side... So, what are you guys using and what do you think is the most accurate for the money?

Spencer when I first saw a BR rifle I had to have one.

When I found out what one cost I still had to have it.

I gave myself a window of 5 years to have one.  I said before I was 45 I had to have one.  I could not wait and busted my butt working tons of OT to put my first rifle together.  I had it before I was 41 and do not regret the extra work I put in to have it.

I feel I did the rifle right.  And am happy with it.

In the process of finding out what I was getting into, the one thing that still sticks in my head from a fellow Cdn shooter is bullets, barrels and powder.  He told me buy as much powder of a single lot as you can afford.  He then told me to learn to shoot that powder buy trying to figure out the good and bad about it.  So that is what I did and do.  When I have the extra money I buy bullets and powder and barrels.  I try to set myself up into a rotation so I have to buy only one item each year.  I have a place to store my powder that is as safe as any out at the farm in the middle of tim buck two.

Just remember, the next time it may be tough to get some components like small rifle primers were for many, I may have a pound or 2 for you when in need.

Later

Well, once this knee gets healed and I figure out a career path, then I will be able to really get into this. I too want to be able to have a plan like that and I am not scared to work for it. I can see myself buying in bulk, I do like to "experiment" with different loads but once I have found a combination I like I would definitely stock up.

Rick, That's pretty funny, When you first go and start buying stuff you do think a few hundred primers, or a couple pounds of powder is enough, then you start shooting.
