11 shooters showed up to compete during a gap between fall storms.  Despite unsettled skies, conditions were quite mild.

Paul took Sporter with the best agg of the day while Derreck took Custom with the second best agg of the day.  Benchrest class shooters need to pull up their socks!

Thanks to Paul for organizing the match.  Scoring was a group affair, with Shawn, Mike, Mel and Susan all pitching in.   Tim organized the scored targets.

This was our last match of the year, see you again next March!

Club Events / Mission - October 2024 Benchrest Group & Score at 300
« on: October 07, 2024, 01:29:00 PM »
This month, we held our combined Group and Score 300 yard match.  In this format, we hang both a Group and a 200 yard Score target at 300 yards.  You have 14 minutes to complete both targets, and we repeat the process 5 times for the complete match.

A good turnout of 10 shooters got beautiful fall weather and very mild conditions, although, as usual, conditions started to pick up as the morning went on.  We started at 10 degrees while we finished at close to 20.

With Pete away, Art handled the targets, Allan took our money and Joe called the match.  Thanks to all who pitched in!

Our next match is November 3rd, and we'll be back to shooting Group at 100 and 200 yards.

Because it is hard to compare Group and Score results, we adopt a scoring system where a shooter gets 1 point for each person with a lower score / group size in a particular match.  These scores are tallied and the one with the most points wins.

Here are the results:

12 shooters showed up to compete on a beautiful early fall morning.  Conditions were very benign.

Paul took Benchrest and Sporter while Mel took Custom.  The scores in Sporter have been steadily improving, and the top two scores in Sporter would have secured second place in the Benchrest class!

Thanks to Paul for organizing the match.  Scoring was a group affair, with Shawn, Mike, Mel and Derrick all pitching in.

Next match is October 26, our last match of the season.

Club Events / Mission - September 2024 Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: September 09, 2024, 02:36:32 PM »
Our September match attracted 9 shooters - Thanks to all who participated.

Weather Started dead calm, but winds were picking up by the time we got to the 200 yard event.

It was Art's day. taking both yardages and (obviously) the Agg.  Another notable occurrence - A mere 8 points separated all shooters at 200 yards!  Competition is definitely improving the breed!

Pete organized the targets and a number of other competitors pitched in to run them.  With Joe away, Art called the line and also did the scoring.  Thanks to all who pitched in.

Next match is October 6. where we'll shoot both Group and Score at 300 yards.

Club Events / Mission 22 Rimfire Benchrest - Monthly Match - August 24, 2024
« on: September 01, 2024, 09:21:36 PM »
11 hardy shooters showed up to compete on a west coast rainy day.  Despite the rain, the winds were quite mild.

Paul took Benchrest, Mel took Sporter and Derreck scored a victory in the single member Custom class.  Needless to say, Derreck also scored a clean sweep of the Best Targets for his class!  We need more Custom entries for next month...

Thanks to Paul for organizing the match.  Scoring was a group affair, with Shawn, Mike, Mel and Derrick all pitching in to hande the damp targets!

Next match is September 28, hoping for a good turnout!

Club Events / Mission - August 2024 Benchrest Group Shoot
« on: August 12, 2024, 05:03:31 PM »
An above average crowd of 11 shooters showed up to compete this month.  We welcomed Ray and Steve from the Island, hope to see them (and other guests!) more often.

While last month's match was shot in rising temperatures, this one was shot in falling temps.  Conditions were mild for the first few targets, but started to pick up as the temperature rose and we moved to 200 yards.

Thanks to Art, Vlad and Pete who organized the targets, to Joe who called the match and to Allan who took our money.

Our next match is September 8, where we will shoot Score.

{Updated August 12 to correct scoring entry for Vlad at 100 yards...}

Your humble scribe was a no-show for the match, so the writeup is shorter than usual!

YoDave's Army from the Island showed up again and kicked some serious butt, taking the top 5 positions in Benchrest.  I also note that the top 6 shooters in Benchrest posted average scores better than 2000.  Good shooting!

Thanks to all who showed up to compete, particularly our out of town visitors.  Thanks also to those who took on running the match.

We would also like to thank our sponsors:
    Italian Sporting Goods
    Reliable Gun
    Hirsch Precision
    Yo Dave
    Ray Parkin

Next match is August 24, hope to see a good turnout!

...and here are the results - Updated July 27 with Equipment List - Thanks to Paul!

Club Events / Mission - July 2024 Benchrest Group Shoot
« on: July 07, 2024, 08:56:50 PM »
The recent rapid rise in temperature gave us challenging conditions with variable winds and fierce mirage.

The six usual suspects showed up to compete.  In the end, Allan prevailed, taking the 100 yard and the Agg.

Thanks to Art, Vlad and Pete who organized the targets, to Joe who called the match and to Allan who took our money.

Our next match is August 11, where we will shoot group again, we clearly need the practice!

A thin crowd of 9 shooters showed up to compete in the first match of the summer.  It's been a cool spring, and the conditions were mild although the winds were a definite factor.

Paul resumed his winning ways, handily taking the Benchrest class while Mike took Custom and Mel prevailed in Sporter.

Thanks to Paul for organizing the match.  Thanks also to Shawn and Mel for the scoring.

Next match is the annual Bob Goehring Memorial, our big match of the year.  We expect a significant contingent from the Island as well as a few extra local shooters.

11 hardy shooters showed up to compete in cold and rainy weather and conditions which were challenging at times.

We welcomed new shooter Paul Higgins - He managed a good showing, finishing second in the Custom class while scoring 2 best targets in that match.   Mel did very well, winning both Benchrest and Sporter as well as many best targets, while Derreck took the Custom class.

Thanks to Paul for organizing the match.  Thanks also to Shawn, Derreck and Mel who scored the damp targets!

Next match is June 22, hope to see you all there in better weather!

The course of fire will be 20 Score rounds at each of 100, 200 and 300 yards.  Bring 80 rounds or so if you preload.  Awards to third place at each yardage and the Jim Latham Perpetual Trophy to the winner of the Grand Agg.  Your chance for fame and glory!  We will shoot the 300 yard match first to allow for shot spotting in summer conditions,

This match has very few equipment rules - No muzzle brakes and no rail guns.  F-Open rifles are more than welcome!  Jim was always a fan of cross pollination in the shooting sports...

Safety meeting at 8:45, Match begins at 9:00 am sharp and we should be done by 4:00 pm or so.

$40 entry fee - Clubhouse cafeteria is NOT open, so please bring your lunch!

Pre registration is required, so please email me (markdumont750@gmail.com) or Joe (joemendham@telus.net) if you plan to attend and with any questions.

Club Events / Mission - May 2024 Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: May 05, 2024, 06:01:12 PM »
Our January match attracted 9 shooters - Thanks to all who participated.

Weather was unsettled with a front moving in.  Winds were variable with rapid switches and a bit of rain.

Art won handily, taking the both the 100 yard and the agg in convincing fashion.  Nice shooting in difficult conditions.

Pete and Vlad organized and ran the targets while Art did the scoring.  Thanks to all who pitched in.

Next match is the Jim Latham Memorial VFS match on June 2 with targets at 100, 200 and 300.  Hope to see you all there.

A thin turnout of only 9 shooters showed up to compete in cold and rainy weather but mild conditions.

But for equipment problems on the first target, Dave would have easily taken the Benchrest class.  Mike took the Custom class while Susanne posted a convincing win in Sporter.

Thanks to Paul for organizing the match.  Thanks also to Shawn and Derreck who did the scoring.

Next match is May 25, hope to see you all there!

Looking back at last year's writeup. I was surprised at how similar this match was!

 - Last year, we had 16 shooters, this year we had 14.
 - The weather was changeable, cool for practice day, hot for day 1 and moderate for day 2.
 - We had shooters from 2 provinces (but no territories), as well as an excellent turnout from Vancouver Island.
 - The scoring and target crews did great work!
 - Nobby Uno, just shy of his ninetieth birthday grabbed fourth place in the 2 gun again!  As Art said, may we all shoot half as well when we reach his age.
 - It was always easy to find someone to pitch in and help with the chores at the match.

A big thank you to all who participated!

« on: January 08, 2024, 10:22:07 AM »
Our January match attracted 11 shooters, our best turnout in quite a while - Thanks to all who participated.

Weather was better than forecast, with mild conditions and a bit of sun.

Once again, Denis showed the way, winning the Agg for the third time in a row, the proverbial threepeat.  Nice shooting Denis!  Denis also took the 100 yard in a tie breaker with Art and Allan took 200 as well as second in the Agg.

Pete and Vlad organized the targets while Art wrangled them to and from the frames.  Art also took care of the scoring.  Allan took our money while Joe called the line.  Thanks to all who pitched in.

Next match is February 4, 2024 where we'll shoot Score again.  Hope to see you all there.

Club Events / Mission - December 2023 Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: December 04, 2023, 11:15:13 AM »
Our December match attracted a great crowd of 9 shooters, including Don Ells who joined us as a guest from Vancouver Island.  (A quick reminder that guests are always welcome at our monthly shoots!)

Weather was variable, starting calm, turning switchy as a front came in followed by steady rain and mist for the 200 yard targets.

Denis Lapierre showed the way, winning both yardages and hence the Grand Agg as well.  Don also made a good showing taking second in the Grand Agg as well as at 200 yards.

Art and Pete wrangled the targets in the rain.  Art took our money and did the scoring as well while Joe called the line.  Thanks to all who pitched in.

Club Events / Mission - November 2023 Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: November 05, 2023, 06:24:07 PM »
With the cooler weather we had a smaller than usual crowd of 5 shooters to compete in fair weather despite a pessimistic forecast.  Conditions were quite mild, although some challenges emerged (as usual) at 200 yards.

After a long absence, Denis Lapierre returned to show us all how it is done, winning both yardages and (of course) the Agg.  I guess only the experts show up in the winter, a mere 6 points separated the field at 200 yards.

With Pete away, Art and Vlad stepped in to run the targets.  Joe took our money and called the match while Art did the scoring.  Thanks to all who pitched in.

Next match is December 3, where we'll shoot Score again.  Hope to see you all there.
