I took this picture from behind the 100 yard backer, facing the benches on Sunday morning at around 7:45am.
You can see some of the tails lifting up. It got much worse as the day went on, but it was a lot of fun!!

ORSA - Ontario Rifle Shooters Association / ORSA Shoot May-3-4-2025
« on: May 05, 2025, 08:59:06 AM »
Elmira Rod and Gun club hosted the first shoot of the season for ORSA. We started off Saturday  with 14 shooters. It was nice to see everyone again and get back to the range after the long winter!
Bill Mitchell got things started with a couple small ones, and took the LV agg with a .2062. Stan Walter was on his heals with a .2192.
Stan  took the small group of the morning with a .086"
After lunch we pulled out the heavy guns and "The Legend" Bob Kerr shot a nice teen agg with a .1920 and George Carter not far behind at .2114
Small group went to Brian Shoemaker with an .085
We had some dinner, and traded stories about Rob MacLennan who we lost in March. There was a lot of laughs around the table and fond memories!!
Then on Sunday we moved things back to 200 yards. That's when the fun began. Never seen wind quite like that before. I took a picture of the range from behind the 100 yard backer, and the tails were already standing straight up or straight out.
Vera Carter got the show started with a .3114 agg, and  Bill Mitchell at .3263"
Small group was Bill with a .405
After lunch with the LV guns, Brian Shoemaker shot a .2859 agg and Peter Smith shot a .2986 agg.
Small group went to Brian Shoemaker with a .324
When the wind settled Bill Mitchell  took the 2 gun with a .2839 agg, Brian was Second with a .2972 and George Carter was in 3rd with a .3037 agg.
A big thanks to the helpers on Sat, and Sun.

ORSA - Ontario Rifle Shooters Association / ORSA Shoot May-3-4
« on: March 20, 2025, 03:51:41 AM »
Well today is the first day of Spring!. It's a good  time to pull out your benchrest gear, dust it off, screw on a new barrel, and get ready for the 2025 season.
ORSA's first shoot of the season is scheduled for May-3-4 at Elmira Rod and Gun Club. 6533 Reid Woods Drive, Elmira, ON N3B 2Z6.
Please check this website for any changes.
Even if you don't have a bench gun, come out and try for 1 or both days, but please leave your muzzle breaks at home!  Saturday we shoot 100 yards x 5 matches, then on Sunday we shoot 200 yards for 5 matches. Saturday we usually have a steak dinner, or pizza, wings and salads. That is a good time to ask the season veterans any question that you have about this great sport.
If you have any questions, you can reach out to Brian Shoemaker at brian.shoemaker@wightman.ca, or Jeff Doucette at xfmrdude@gmail.com
Hope to see you soon!!

Elmira Rod & Gun club hosted ORSA's first score shoot of the season.
We had 14 shooters in attendance with some new faces on the line. The morning 100yd matches was relatively calm with a few rain showers and a tornado warning. When the sun came out we finished up the 100yd, and Lenny McKenzie won  the morning matches with a 268.
The afternoon matches at 200yd was a different story. Some sun, and lots of switchy wind. Brian Shoemaker came out on top of the 200yd with an impressive 257 score.
Brian also took top honors in the grand agg with a 518 total,  edging out Lee Graig by one.
Thank You to the volunteers on Saturday.

Elmira Rod and Gun hosted ORSA'S second group shoot of the season. We had 14 shooters in attendance. The conditions where typical for Elmira, quick switches, and  flags that  weren't always telling the truth!
It was a close match between Robb MacLennan and Brian Shoemaker.
When it was all done Robb was the 2 gun winner.
Thanks to all the volunteers who helped out this weekend, and Elmira R&G club.
If anyone happened to get a picture of the 200 Yd LV please send it to me at xfmrdude@gmail,com and I will update the scores.

ORSA - Ontario Rifle Shooters Association / ORSA'S Fall Final
« on: October 17, 2023, 05:17:27 AM »
Elmira Rod & Gun Club hosted ORSA'S "Fall Final" shoot this past weekend.
12 brave souls showed up to battle the unpredictable winds that show up in the fall at Elmira, and we weren't disappointed.  George and Vera Carter weren't seemed to be bothered by the wind, they just stuffed in more powder and took the early lead on Saturday morning. Stan "the man" hanging around!
Mark Robson put together the heavy gear, and took honors with a nice .2346 agg in the afternoon HV. Stan again hanging around!
Sunday came and all  H*LL broke loose. Flag tails standing straight up, switching with every blow, cold and damp. It was frustrating, but that is Benchrest !!!!
Stan Walter took the morning matches with a impressive .2667 agg. In any condition, that is great shooting.
Robbie MacLennan got some lunch into him, and threw down a .2853 agg to take top honors in the 200yd LV
When the rain stopped, and the trophies handed out, Stan Walter was again on top with the 2-gun. His second 2 gun in the last two shoots. Congratulations Stan on a great year of shooting!!!!

Thank you to Elmira Rod & Gun, and it's membership for hosting ORSA's shoots for this past season. WE hope we can continue on next year, shooting at this great facility
Thank you to the volunteers.
Target Crew- Peter Pomerleau, Mathew Leclair,  and Adel Hijazi,
Scorers- Rick Kreamer, and Paul Connor.
RSO's- Paul Connor, and Jeff Schaefer.
Kitchen- Steve Hornsby, and Darryl Brubacher.
Also Thank You to Bill Mitchell, George and Vera Carter, for making sure we were fed on Saturday nights for the entire season.
Special thanks to Steve Horrnsby, Paul Connor, and Brian Shoemaker, for being at every shoot, to make sure the matches were run safe and everyone had fun. Thank You all.
Have a great holiday season, and I am looking forward to seeing everyone next season.
