BRSC - Benchrest Shooters Canada / Kenora Score Match

Rifle Match Report
Saturday June 14th, 2025 Lake of the Woods Gun Club Rifle Division held a BRSC registered 100 meter and 200 meter benchrest for score match. The backhoe work done last July allowed us to use the same bench and flag set up for both distances. It was sunny with a moderate changeable wind. Eight shooters shot both yardages competing for the Grand Aggregate Award.

Congratulations to Rod Jack for winning the 200 and Grand Agg.

Thanks to target Crew Shyla Hellesoe, Scorer Al Carlson and competitors who came out to support the club.

BRSC - Benchrest Shooters Canada / Kenora Score Match August 31, September 1, 2024.

Lake of the Woods Gun Club in Kenora Ontario held a registered score shoot Saturday August 31st and Sunday September 1st. It was attended by 7 shooters each day. Saturday at 100 was too calm causing a few unexplained 9?s. Sunday was completely different with wind gusting to 30 k. Only Phil Nick shot clean at 200 on Sunday. Phil's 200-meter targets will be submitted to the Records Committee for consideration for a possible record. Congratulations on your Grand Agg win Phil. Thanks to the shooters and volunteers for supporting the range. Our backup scorer Mike Warkentin also produces great videos of our shoots.

Club Events / Lake of the Woods Gun Club Rimfire Benchrest Match

Sunday July 28th, Lake of the Woods Gun Club in Kenora held a 22 Rimfire benchrest match. It was attended by 9 competitors including a couple new shooters.
Weather was hot and humid with moderate wind.
In Sporter Class Ryan Jackson won his 3rd consecutive match with a good shooting CZ.
Micheal Rosenblat normally shoots longer ranges with shorter time limits but placed well none the less in his first benchrest match. 
Crystal Kirby Peloquin was in the hunt but was undone by ammo on her last target. Crystal displayed unreal concentration and technique.
Mike Warkentin did manage to hit the fly that sat still for 6 shots. Mike shoots better with a shotgun.
In Unlimited Class Phil Nick squeaked by Rod Jack by 1 X dot.
Wayne Schellenberg posted the highest X count in Unlimited.
Congratulations to Phil Nick and Ryan Jackson for their wins.

Club Events / Kenora 22 Rimfire Benchrest Match

Sunday June 2nd Lake of the Woods Gun Club in Kenora Ontario held a 22 rimfire benchrest match.
It was attended by 8 competitors including new shooter Crystal Peloquin.
The wind was switchy and challenging.
Only 2 shooters managed to stay clean.
Thanks to the shooters and volunteers who made it an enjoyable event.

It was attended by 6 shooters.
Saturday it rained. Sunday, it snowed.
Congratulations to Phil Nick who shot well both days and won the Grand Agg.

BRSC - Benchrest Shooters Canada / Kenora Score Match August 26/27

Lake of the Woods Gun Club in Kenora held a two-day Score Match August 26th and 27th. It was attended by nine shooters. Saturday at 100 the conditions were fantastic with wind in the single digits. Sunday at 200 was a different story.

One high light was the fat shinny black bear that crossed the range at 50 meters.

While the wheels fell right off for a couple competitors including myself, Phil Nick shot consistently well at both yardages. Phil's targets will be submitted to be considered for a Grand Agg record.

Thanks to the shooters who are happy competing in Kenora.

And thanks to the following volunteers who make our events possible:

The rain quit before the match started. Conditions were overcast, mild wind, and it got sunnier and breezier as the day wore on.

Club Events / Kenora 500 Meter Match

Lake of the Woods Gun Club in Kenora Ontario held our 7th annual 500 Meter Benchrest Match Sunday June 25th. It was attended by 7 shooters with 4 from Manitoba. Weather was overcast, cool and breezy with light rain in the morning, changing to drizzle, then mist in the afternoon. There was no mirage, just wildfire smoke and lots of mosquitos.
The 600 yard IBS target is used with awards for Group Aggregate, Score Aggregate, Small Group and Highest Single Target Score. It was a good battle in the top 4 spots but Grant Schick from Cooks Creek Manitoba had the right stuff to win. Congratulations to Grant. It was a fun event. Thank You to the participants and volunteers who look forward to this event every year.

BRSC - Benchrest Shooters Canada / Kenora Score Match

Lake of the Woods Gun Club in Northwestern Ontario held a 2-day score match April 29/30. Spring has not quite arrived here yet. Saturday it snowed a little and melted on the ground.

Sunday at 200 was the windiest match held here in memory. It was a north wind funneled down the 500-meter range and into your face. The gusts blew away gun cases, timers, scope covers and anything not secured. And dust. Some gusts had to be leaned into and braced against to keep from being blown off your spot.

Thanks to the wind burned shooters who froze their asses off. Thanks to all the volunteers and helpers who make our events possible. Special thanks to Davy Jones for bringing a wood stove and a load of firewood.

Temps ranged from frost up to Tee shirt weather.
Beautiful sunny day, scores should have been higher but no excuses.

Lake of the Woods Gun Club held a Rimfire Benchrest Match Sunday July 31st, 2022.The day started off with showers mixed with heavy rain before settling down to dead calm.

Afterwards competitors tried a 200 meter rimfire match on Schutzen style score targets. Best scores were 484/500 with a 2.375" ten shot group recorded.

Lake of the Woods Gun Club in Kenora Ontario held a registered 100-meter Score Match Saturday April 30, 2022. The only records that were broken were a 98 year old record for rainfall in April and a 62 year record for rain and snow. It was dreary overcast and cold but at least the rain held off until noon.

Congratulations to Ron Pettigrew who prevailed over the 30's with a 6ppc.
