Rifles / Rem 40xb .308 win value?
« on: March 21, 2019, 07:10:19 PM »
Fellow called me to see if I was interested buying his Rem 40xb in .308 win.
He bought this gun from my brother many years ago 40 years ago.
My brother sold it him with only 450 rounds fired, he has only fired 10 rounds since buying it from my brother.
My Smith  bore scoped barrel its pristine no fire-cracking at throat, no copper in rifling and muzzle is great. The gun is in exceptional condition it would be almost 100% except for small mark near heel and to the fact my brother had a professionally done of a gloss finish to protect gun from Hoppes getting into wood will cleaning it has a 2oz trigger .My brother shot a.5 shot .552" group at 200 yards,
He said make me a offer, would not give me a price so I said I will get back to him SAP
I really don't want gun or need it but I would like to get the Lyman Scope for my original 1956 Rem 40x 22lr and sell gun I offered to buy scope but he does't want to break-up
What you thoughts on value with out scope
Thanks in advance for any input

Centerfire Discussions / 30 BR Build completed with targets
« on: July 14, 2015, 09:08:09 AM »
Picked up a 1/18 twist barrel 1.250 strait Kreiger for $325 in Canada, bought a Rem 700 sold new barrel so action net was $ 400 was down south and sent action to GreTan rifles and he did a great job truing, and bushed firing pin hole as well put in a light firing pin. Picked up a old wood 40x stock, bedded it.
Prepped some Lapua brass, neckturned them  and sent 3 brass to Manson to make me a reamer. Had VX systems Ian Robertson put it together
only could get Berger 115 gr and some 4198 powder and worked load at 3050 fps shot a 5 shot group at .131" had a 8 to 32 x Sightron and have now upgraded to a 10 by 50x Sightron
here are results shot at 200 yards at a 100 yard hunterclass target
Will have to do some work to get it down to HV Varmint class, lighter stock and maybe cut barrel back its at 26"

Centerfire Discussions / 1st time on site couple questions
« on: February 20, 2010, 05:37:54 PM »
Hi Guys & Gals Correct me if I am wrong HV varmint weight is 13.5lbs. Does anyone shoot 223rem in benchrest or is it dead like the deuce?
I used to shoot hunter class in 70s with a deuce and then .308win a lot of other shooters where using 6x47 and some where building 6ppc and then benchrest kind of died in Ottawa area.
I shoot some Fclass with friends who shoot the fasttwist, .223rem some Hart barrels Kriegers 28" and factory Savages all with 1/7twist.
These dam fasttwist really shoot using 80gr bullets, I have seen quite a few 5 shot groups at 300y under
.600 smallest .510" , but the 90grs testing loads trying to get in the high 2800fps, using slow powders like Vt 540, 550, Rl 15 where really tight at 300y would they compete with guns used today in Benchrest.
My problem will be making weight limit with 30" barrel build is almost done have to weigh everything
