Club Events / Mission 22 Rimfire Benchrest - May 26, 2018
« on: June 03, 2018, 08:22:59 PM »
Our May match brought tricky spring conditions.  Benchrest and Sporter classes each had their own relay to equalize the weather effects.

Thanks to Bob and Paul K for running the match and to Bob, Mel and Art for scoring.

We'd also like to welcome Danny Woodrow to his first time out.

The Equipment List section of the score sheet is looking a lot better - Thanks to all for taking the time to fill out the forms!

Congrats to Bob for the win in the Benchrest class, and to Ray for the win in Sporter.  We need Nev back to give Ray some competition.

Here are the results...

Hope to see you all at the next match on June 23.

Thanks to all who participated - Some drove a fair distance!

Too many people involved in organizing and running things to thank individually, but a great job done by all.

Conditions started quite calm, but typical spring weather was running by the time we got to 200 yards - The 200 yard scores reflect that.

We were missing our ace photographer Paul, so this is a pretty plain post!  Feel free to add anything you may have on your phones!

Club Events / Mission - April 2018 Benchrest Group Shoot
« on: April 10, 2018, 09:20:10 PM »
We shot Group at our regular monthly match.  Weather was unsettled, with light, switchy winds often running uprange.

We welcomed Kerr Mcconnell, a new shooter, as well as Mike and Paul who returned.  Sounds like a bug may be biting...

Thanks to Joe for running the match and measuring the targets, to Art for preparing the targets and backers.  Thanks also to Sam's nephew Adrian also showed up to help with targets and data entry.  We're hoping to recruit him for next month's registered shoot.   Adrian was seen practicing after the match - We need new shooters with good eyes!

Next month is our annual BRSC sanctioned Group Shoot on May 6 - Hope to see you all there for both events.  If you plan to come, please email me (mdumont@uniserve.com) or Joe (joemendham@hotmail.com) to reserve your spot.

Club Events / Mission - March 2018 Benchrest Group Shoot
« on: March 12, 2018, 03:24:36 PM »
We shot Group at our regular monthly match.  After a cold (well, for us) and wet winter were treated to a glorious morning, complete with a few inches of melting snow on the ground.

The match turned into an epic struggle between Art Harder and Denis Lapierre - Denis owned 100, while Art owned 200.  In the end, Denis took the Agg by .0051.  Congratulations!

We welcomed two new shooters, Mike Daurie and Paul Higgins - We hope they become regulars.

Thanks to Art for running the match as well as preparing the targets and backers and to Sonya and Allan for running the targets.

We shoot group again next month on April 8 as a runup to our annual BRSC sanctioned Group Shoot on May 6 - Hope to see you all there for both events.

Centerfire Discussions / Re: Great Promo Video
« on: February 14, 2018, 10:20:40 AM »
Last summer I was at Rosebud shooting one bench over from Hugh Williamson.  I had finished my pitiful string in a howling gale while Hugh just bided his time.  He finally took about 10 seconds to shoot his string, which ended up either being a range record or at least close.

Anyhow, simultaneous video of the shooter (including the flags) alongside the target for one of these strings would easily beat anything in the rimfire video for sheer excitement!

We shot Score at our regular monthly match.  After what seemed like a solid month of rain, the weather gods treated us to a glorious sunny day.  As always, the change of weather brought chilly fingers and a few small wind challenges.

Thanks to Art for preparing the targets and backers, to Joe for running the match, to the target runners, to Sue for scoring and to Sonya for data entry.

We're back on March 11, shooting Group as a runup for a busy summer season - Hope to see you there.

And the results...

Club Events / Mission - December Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: December 05, 2017, 08:49:48 PM »
We shot Score at our regular monthly match.  10 hardy souls braved improving weather but dropping temperatures to be greeted with relatively mild conditions.  Most of us managed to regroup at Mission Springs Pub for our traditional year end lunch, which I certainly enjoyed.

Art managed a very successful debut for his new gun by winning the match!  Also congrats to Ted, one of our recent recruits who came in second.

Thanks to Art for preparing the targets and backers and running the match, to the target runners and to Sue and Sonya for both scoring and data entry.

Another year in the bag - Back again in the New Year on January 7 - Hope to see you there.  Exciting things happening in the coming year, including the 2 day Bench Rest Shooters Canada Group Nationals at Mission in August as well as the ongoing runup to the 2018 World Bench Rest Championship in Calgary.

As always, feel free to contact me (mdumont@uniserve.com) or Joe (joemendham@hotmail.com) with any questions, complaints or comments.

Club Events / Mission - November Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: November 19, 2017, 08:44:10 PM »
We shot Group at our regular monthly match.  9 hardy souls braved the winter weather to be greeted with relatively mild conditions, although those last few points did prove elusive!  We even had a couple of ties to break.

Thanks to Joe for running the match, to Art for preparing the targets and backers, to the target runners (I was loading and missed all the names, although I think I saw a newbie or 2 pitching in!) and to Sonya for both scoring and data entry.

We're back again on Sunday, December 3 - Hope to see you there.

Club Events / Mission 22 Rimfire Benchrest - August 26, 2017
« on: September 03, 2017, 01:40:57 PM »
Our August match had the usual thin summertime turnout, so we managed to do it all in a single relay, thus subjecting all shooters to the same conditions.  Bob's gun was undergoing maintenance, but Bob faithfully showed up as match runner.  In a slightly unusual turn, we had more shooters in the Sporter class in the BR class!

We'd also like to welcome two new shooters, Paul Higgins and Gerard Lochran.

Congrats to Gord Park on the win.  Ray Parkin managed to edge out Nev in Sporter.  Thanks to Bob for running the match and to the scoring crew of Mel, Bob, Mankay and Art.

Here are the results...

Hope to see you all at our next match on September 23!

Club Events / Mission - August Benchrest Group Shoot
« on: August 06, 2017, 08:36:27 PM »
We shot Group at our regular monthly match.  After a week of smoke, conditions started calm, but developed some of the usual Mission summer mountainside challenges as the day progressed.

Thanks to Joe for running the match, to Art for preparing the targets and backers, to Frank and Sonya for running the targets, to Sonya for data entry and to Sue for scoring.

We take a break for Public Sight In days in September, but we're back for the next monthly match on Sunday, October 15 - Hope to see you there.  We're also running our "Try Benchrest" event at the next match - Bring a friend!

Our July match brought switchy midsummer conditions...

Congrats to Gord Park on the win.  Derek managed to unseat Nev from his customary win in the Sporter division.  Thanks to Bob for organizing the match, to Dave as Range Officer and to the scoring crew of Mel, Bob and Mankay.

Here are the results...

Hope to see you all at our next match on August 26!

Club Events / Mission - 2017 Jim Latham Memorial VFS Shoot
« on: July 10, 2017, 09:08:58 PM »
The Mission range provided its usual challenging summer conditions for our fifth annual VFS shoot.  We started at 300 yards before the mirage got bad enough to hide all bullet holes later in the day, followed by 100 and 200 yardages.

It was a hard fought battle, but Joe prevailed to win the Grand Agg with a sizzling shoot at the final yardage.

Thanks to all our shooters for participating and keeping the schedule tight.

It was definitely a group effort - Joe ran the match, Art prepped the targets and Art and Sue did the scoring.  Target running was definitely a group effort, with Sue, Sam, Art and Denis helping out (and I'm sure I've missed somebody.)  Finally, thanks to Dan Zaccanti who couldn't make the match but still went out of his way to be sure we had 300 yard targets to shoot!

Thanks to our sponsors - Richard Nicol and HW Precision.

Grand Agg:  1st Joe Mendham, 2nd Denis Lapierre, 3rd Sam Parotta
100 yard Agg:  1st Sam Parotta, 2nd Joe Mendham, 3rd Dave Holbrook
200 yard Agg:  1st Joe Mendham, 2nd Denis Lapierre, 3rd Art Harder
300 yard Agg:  1st Art Harder, 2nd Wally McDonald, 3rd Dave Holbrook

Our May match brought relatively mild conditions, with the cottonwood fluff substituting for wind flags where necessary.

Congrats to Gord Park on the win, and to Paul for his fine 2350 target.  Nev continued to dominate the Sporter division.  Thanks to Bob for organizing the match, to Dave as Range Officer and to the scoring crew of Art, Bob and Mankay.

Here are the results...

Hope to see you all at our next match on July 22.

Our May match had the usual blustery Spring conditions, and scores seemed a little lower than normal!

Paul continued to dominate, although he only managed best target on 3 of 4!  Nev also continued to dominate the Sporter division.  Thanks to Bob for organizing the match, to Dave as Range Officer and to the scoring crew of Bob, Mel, Mankay and Art.

Here are the results...

Hope to see you all at our next match on June 24.
