Club Events / Mission 22 Rimfire Benchrest - May 27, 2017
« on: June 02, 2017, 03:44:30 PM »
Our May match had the usual blustery Spring conditions, and scores seemed a little lower than normal!

Paul continued to dominate, although he only managed best target on 3 of 4!  Nev also continued to dominate the Sporter division.  Thanks to Bob for organizing the match, to Dave as Range Officer and to the scoring crew of Bob, Mel, Mankay and Art.

Here are the results...

Hope to see you all at our next match on June 24.

And here's a start at the Equipment List - I'll fill in the blanks as they trickle in...

Welcome and congrats to HWP - The list now has 2 Canadian barrel makers!

Another one is in the bag!  Too many people involved in organizing and running things to thank individually, but a quick shoutout to the guests and locals who wrangled the target frames.

Once again, match organizer Joe Mendham showed us all how it is done in challenging conditions.

I'm posting the results now, pics and an equipment list to follow.  Or, feel free to post your own pics on this thread...

Hope to see you all again next year, and remember the Jim Latham Memorial VFS Match on July 9.

« on: February 21, 2017, 08:50:16 PM »
After two cancellations, eight hardy souls braved the slush for the first actual match of the season.

Conditions were benign to begin, but picked up as the day wore on and we moved to 200 yards.

Congratulations to Frank on the win!

Thanks to all who participated, to Art for prepping the targets and running the match, to Frank and Sonya for target setup, to Sue for scoring and to Sonya for data entry (while Mark was playing with his handloading toys.)

Hope to see you all for the next match on March 19 - We plan to shoot Score again.

Club Events / Mission - December Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: December 12, 2016, 03:47:00 PM »
The start of the winter deep freeze (well, for us left coasters anyhow) brought variable conditions.

Congratulations to Art for the win, and to Denis who won second in a 3-way tie breaker.

A few hardy souls made it to the year-end lunch at Mission Springs.

Thanks to Art for prepping the targets and to all shooters who were on their best behavior for the rookie range officer.

Hope to see you all for the next match on January 15.  I see the 2017 dates are on the club calendar page, and we'll be publishing them here as well.

Club Events / Mission - November Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: November 07, 2016, 08:58:58 PM »
Like last month, we faced mild conditions after a stormy week.

Sonya finished strong to take the win in a tie breaker - Congratulations!

Thanks to Art for preparing and scoring the targets, to Frank and Sonya for setting targets and to Joe for running the match.

Also thanks to Art and Joe for staying on the sidelines to allow others to shoot.  Make sure to register if you're planning to shoot!

Hope to see you all for the next match on December 4, along with our traditional Christmas lunch.

Club Events / Mission 22 Rimfire Benchrest - October 22, 2016
« on: October 31, 2016, 08:40:32 PM »
Despite a stormy October, shooters were greeted with fairly benign conditions for the last match of the season.

Congratulations to Paul on the win in Benchrest, and to Nev on the win in Sporter!  Thanks to Bob for organizing the match, to Dave as Range Officer and to the scoring crew of Bob and Mel.

Here are the results, including the novelty Split the Playing Card event.  No one managed to actually sever the card, although a number of shooters came close!

Hope to see you all next season!

Club Events / Mission - October Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: October 17, 2016, 09:19:11 AM »
We returned from our pause for public sight-in on the range to shoot a Score match.

10 hardy souls braved a horrible weather forecast to find wet but otherwise very mild conditions.

Congrats to Joe on his win, and thanks to Art for preparing the targets, to Frank and Sonya for setting targets and to Joe for running the match.

Hope to see you all for the next match on November 6.

Club Events / Mission 22 Rimfire Benchrest - September 24, 2016
« on: October 17, 2016, 08:50:01 AM »
The data processing department did not attend the September match, so the results are a little late in coming.

The usual team handled the scoring, and Man Kay did the sums.  I entered the scores into the spreadsheet, and it confirmed Man Kay's computations.

Congratulations to Paul on the win in Benchrest, and to Nev for the win in Sporter.  Paul did some particularly fine shooting, with Best Target in 3 of 4.

Hope to see you at the next match on October 22.

Club Events / Mission 22 Rimfire Benchrest - August 27, 2016
« on: August 29, 2016, 09:08:17 PM »
A change in the weather meant for changing conditions for the monthly 22 Benchrest Match.  On the other hand, if conditions at the range were anything like my home, it would have been REALLY challenging by 4 pm!

Congratulations to Mel on the win!  Thanks to Bob for organizing the match, to Dave as Range Officer and to the scoring crew of Art, Bob, Man Kay and Mel.

With our ace photographer Paul off finding his roots (and perhaps a Sako or two) in Finland, we only have one photograph available - Mel our match winner hard at work scoring targets.

And finally, the results:

Hope to see you all for the next match on September 24.

Club Events / Mission - August Benchrest Group Shoot
« on: August 09, 2016, 09:02:05 PM »
We decided to shoot group at our monthly match for August.  The big news was a new shooter, Ted Veale, who proceeded to kick (almost) all our butts!  I think a little of the credit has to go to Joe, who loaded the ammo and coached.  On the other hand, Ted shows considerable promise - Hope he becomes a regular!

The other notable event was the epic battle between Art and Frank, which Frank took by a margin of 0.0004 in the final agg.

Thanks to Joe for running the match, Art for preparing the targets and backers, to Sue for scoring and to Paul for taking the pics.

We take a break for Public Sight In days in September, but we're back for the next monthly match later in October - Sunday, October 16 - Hope to see you there.

Good to see Bob on the line.

Art on the line.

Dave on the line.

Sonya on the line.  Boys aren't the only ones allowed to have fun.

Pete on the line.

Ted Veale, hot new guy on the block.  Note he shoots from the correct side.

Vlad attempts to distract Pete.

Mark, looking dazed and confused, seeks guidance from Joe.

Sam incognito.

Frank and Bob - Benchrest is all about the details.

Sue (ace group scorer) and Sandra.

Paul, our ace photographer.  Wonder how he managed to take the selfie?

And the results...

100 yard results.

200 yard results.

...and the agg...

And finally, the results:

Well, another one in the bag...  First piece of news is we've renamed it the Jim Latham Memorial VFS Championship, in honour of a great guy and a big supporter of Benchrest in BC.

It seemed safe to predict relatively benign conditions to start, worsening as the day progressed and the range didn't disappoint!

Thanks to shooters for keeping up the pace - I'm sure our out-of-town participants appreciated the early finish.

Thanks to our prize sponsors - Richard Nicol, Big Horn Sales, Sinclair International, Hirsch Precision and Italian Sporting Goods.

Thanks to Art for preparing and setting the targets and to Joe for running the match.  Given the results, we'll have to think up more distractions for them next year...  A special shoutout to Sue for scoring all 144 targets with just over 1000 holes!

And finally, thanks everyone for supporting the Fraser Valley VFS shoot this year.  Hope everyone had a good time.

We'd like to make this and the group shoot better. Is there anything that we could do to make it better or you would like to see done?

Cheers, and hope to see you all next year!

A few happy winners (need a better photographer than me next year!)
