The BRSC National Championships will be held at the Mission Rod and Gun Club July 30 and 31.  There will be a practice day on Friday, July 29 with 6 benches reserved for participants.

This is a registered match and will consist of LV 100 and HV 100 on the Saturday and then HV 200 and LV 200 on the Sunday.

See https://missionrodandgun.com/ for details on the club location and facilities.

Camping is available, just let me know in advance to make arrangements.

We have 12 benches on the rifle range, and with 2 relays this limits the number of competitors to 24.  PRE-REGISTRATIONM IS REQUIRED, contact me (markdumont750@gmail.com) or Joe Mendham (joemendham@hotmail.com) to pre register.  Registration is on a first come, first served basis.

Looks like it will be a terrific turnout, and some very stiff competition. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.  Watch this space for further announcements!

Club Events / Mission - February 2022 Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: February 07, 2022, 08:59:34 PM »
We are back after horrible weather cancelled our regular monthly match.  In February, we shot Score.  It was a beautiful day following a rainy week, and great to get out.
Conditions were very mild through most of the match, and the close scores reflected that.

With Pete away, targets were very much a team effort.  Thanks to all those who helped out.  Thanks to Joe for calling the match and scoring the targets.  And he also won both the 100 Yard and the Grand Agg.

Next month's match is scheduled for March 6th, hope to see you all there.

Club Events / Mission - Group and Score at 300 - December 5, 2021
« on: December 07, 2021, 04:03:02 PM »
We decided to try something different for our last Club match of the year.  We shot a format similar to the "King of the Hill" in Calgary, shooting both group and score at 300 yards.  With each trip to set targets, we put up one 200 yard Score target and a 300 yard Group target.  Competitors had 14 minutes to shoot 5 score bullseyes and a 5 shot group.  Since we had to compare two different scoring systems, we assigned points to each shooter for each target, where the number of points was the number of people you beat on that target.  The one with the most points at the end wins!

Starting at 9am, we were pretty much done by noon.

A hardy group 6 shooters shot in chilly but very mild conditions.  Some mirage made things difficult as the sun came up, but we could usually see the bullet holes!

Bob Parsons decided to join our happy group, good to see a new face!

Thanks to Pete, Bob and Dave for running the targets, and to Ken for stripping and organizing them.  Joe showed up to call the match and do the scoring.

Any and all comments on the new format are welcome.

...and here are the results.  We still had to break a tie for fourth place between Dave and Ken, they were again tied on the first Score target, so the first Group target decided in favor of Dave.

Club Events / Mission - November 2021 Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: November 07, 2021, 06:34:52 PM »
We shot Score at our regular monthly match.  It was a changeable fall day, with conditions very mild for the 100 yard segment.  On the other hand, things definitely picked up as we moved to 200, with switchy winds and occasional showers.

This has to be one of the closest and overall highest scoring shoots we have had.  Because of the many ties (including a 3-way tie in the Grand Agg), I've posted the results sorted for the 100 and 200 yardages as well as the Grand Agg.  Challenges and corrections to scoring protocols gratefully accepted.

Thanks to Joe for calling the match and scoring the targets.  Also thanks to Pete and Vlad for running the targets.

Next month's match is scheduled for December 5th, hope to see you all there.

A small turnout of 10 shooters were treated to a wonderful fall day, except for the wind!  Conditions were calm at 8:30, but picked up dramatically by 9:00.

Paul prevailed once more, but the margins were very small between the top 4 shooters in the Benchrest class.  Less than 100 points per target separated the top 4 shooters, a very small margin in this game!

Ray Parkin (another familiar face) showed himself as the Best of the 3 Vudoos in the Sporter class.  Just in time for Halloween!

Paul organized the match, took our money and called the line.  Thanks to Dave Harris for maintaining the target frames and berm, to Mel and Derek for scoring and to Tim for organizing targets.

Last match of the season, check the Mission calendar (which has been updated) for next year's dates.

... and here are the results.

Thanks to Paul for the following GREAT pics...

Allan, Andrew, Aubrey and Joe.  More to come.

A COVID-limited turnout of 10 shooters shot in relatively mild conditions while a "weather bomb" was forming just off the coast.  Changing pressures made for gusty winds.  Things would have been very different 24 hours later!

Good to see some new faces, and special thanks to our out-of-town shooters who made the trek.

Joe prevailed again in the Grand Agg, taking the perpetual trophy home.  Always one for the big finish, I see he managed a possible 55 on his last target.

Special thanks to Paul Koivukoski for showing up to run targets and take pictures - Pics to follow.

Winners at the various yardages were:
300 - Allan Mantler 1st, Joe Mendham 2nd, Ryan Fulcher 3rd.
200 - Joe Mendham 1st, Ryan Fulcher 2nd, Allan Mantler 3rd.  (This required breaking a tie between 2nd and 3rd.)
100 - Joe Mendham 1st, Allan Mantler 2nd, Ryan Fulcher 3rd.

Results sorted by the Grand Agg numbers follow...

Next match is November 7, and we'll be shooting Score.  Hope to see you all there!

While this match is usually run in July, COVID restrictions caused its cancellation this year, as it was in 2020.  Enough restrictions have lifted that we can now hold the match, and the Club has agreed to give us the range for the full day required on October 24.

The course of fire will be 20 Score rounds at each of 100, 200 and 300 yards.  Awards to third place at each yardage and the Jim Latham Perpetual Trophy to the winner of the Grand Agg.  If you preload, you'll need about 90 rounds to allow for sighters.

Safety meeting at 8:45, Match begins at 9:00 am sharp and we should be done by 4:00 pm or so.

$20 entry fee - No lunch provided, but the clubhouse should be open if you want to purchase lunch.

Pre registration is required, so please email us if you plan to attend.

Contact me (markdumont750@gmail.com) or Joe (joemendham@hotmail.com) to register or if you have any questions.

A fine turnout of 17 shooters were treated to great weather and picture perfect conditions.  We were also pleased to host 4 shooters from Vancouver Island as COVID restrictions were recently eased off.

Once again Paul showed us how it is done, dominating the Benchrest class and winning best target in all 4 matches.  As he pointed out, the ghost of Bob Goehring was also in attendance, as Paul was shooting Bob's gun and specially selected ammo.

Ray Parkin (another familiar face) prevailed in Sporter.

Paul organized the match, took our money, called the line and beat the bushes for sponsors.  Thanks to Dave Harris for maintaining the target frames and berm, to Mel and Derek for scoring and to Man Kay for organizing targets.

Thanks to our sponsors, Hirsch Precision, Italian Sporting Goods, Reliable Gun and Yodave Products.  Also thanks to Dave Harris and Ray Parkin who contributed to the prize table.

Next match is on September 18, hope to see you all there!

Here are the results, with a relatively complete equipment list.  Makes for some interesting reading!

As of this date, all matches to and including the BRSC Sanctioned Group Shoot (May 15-16) are cancelled due to the Provincial COVID orders.

Not looking like a great summer for shooting, although things could change quite rapidly.

I'll try to do a better job of keeping you all posted!

After some consideration of COVID protocols, the club has allowed us to resume our match schedule.  Thanks to all those who came out and observed the rules!

We shot Score at our regular monthly match.  It was a wonderful fall day, starting a little chilly but ending up in brilliant sunshine.  We had a little mirage as things warmed up, but only a breath of wind for the last two targets.  As they say, a real trigger pull contest!

We are restricted to 9 shooters, and 7 brave souls showed up.  The small crowd helped with distancing, and the offline scoring was quite easy.

Thanks to Joe for prepping the targets and calling the match, and to Pete and Vlad for running the targets.

Next month's match is scheduled for December 6th, and, with luck, we'll be able to hold it.

« on: March 02, 2020, 03:59:52 PM »
We shot Score at our regular monthly match.  It was a grey day, with the temperature hovering just above zero.  As usual, conditions started very calm for the 100 yard portion, but began to get interesting for the 200.

Thanks to Joe for prepping the targets and calling the match, and to Pete for the scoring.  Target running was very much a group effort - Thanks all.

Next month's match has been rescheduled to the end of this month (March 29) to avoid a conflict with the Easter long weekend - Hope to see you all there.  We will shoot Group at this match as a runup to our BRSC registered Group match on May 24.

And this month's results...

And here are the cumulative results for the Benchrest Shooter of the Year.  These will no doubt change as we move to the matches with a larger number of participants and the "5 best" starts to take effect.  Questions, corrections and suggestions gratefully accepted!

Shooter of the Year is the shooter who accumulates the most points in his or her 5 best outings.  Points are just the number of people you beat at a match.  (This allows us to equalize between group and score.)  Obviously the real wins are at the bigger shoots!  Open to everyone, but I'm guessing only the locals will shoot enough of our matches to be competitive.
