Club Events / Cactus Classic 2024
« on: March 09, 2024, 07:48:41 AM »
One of the biggest events of the year kicks off today, just want to say good luck to all the guys who made the trip down. I have no doubt they will do a great job and have a good time, I believe there's about a dozen which is awesome.

Have fun everyone, stack em up!

I'm hoping it's okay to post a link here, the site is a collection of old editions of Precision Shooting Magazine, as well as some others. The collection is being put together by a fellow by the name of Stu Redman on the Accurate Shooter forum. He's looking for missing editions of the magazine, maybe some of you here have some?

Off Topic / Camping while attending shoots?
« on: January 24, 2023, 12:22:32 PM »
I'm hoping to attend an event or two this year, most likely just at the Rosebud range as that is closest to me. My understanding is that it's possible to camp there with a trailer.

I'm wondering:

- how many people actually do?

-is there a fire pit?

We are planning camping trips for the coming season and I'm trying to figure out what 'the experience' of camping at the range is. If there's no one else there it might make for 3 or 4 lonely nights. For example, we are hoping to book a week in Kananaskis July 5-12, the Stampede Shootout starts on the 13th with the BR201 clinic which I would like to attend- that means the day of the 12th would mean getting up and breaking camp early, drive back to Lethbridge (3.5 hours), drop the wife off, dump and fill the trailer, then drive back up to Rosebud to be ready for the next morning. Long day, and if the camping isn't great (other people, beer at the fire..) ditching the trailer and going to a hotel would make things easier.

Also facing a similar situation in September possibly.

I'd appreciate any thoughts.

Centerfire Discussions / Dry fire practice?
« on: December 18, 2022, 02:37:26 PM »
Any concerns with dry fire practice with a 2oz. Jewel trigger?

To expand on my question, being new to BR I would like to spend time during the winter practicing getting the bags set up properly, dry fire, return the gun to position, reload...etc.

With the Jewel trigger being as sensitive as it is, some hands on practice with it would likely be beneficial as well, as long as it's ok to dry fire. With it being so 'delicate', is there an issue with practicing/dry firing with it?

Centerfire Discussions / Panda action spring?

Anywhere in Canada that I could get a new firing pin spring for a Stolle 6PPC action?

If not, I don't assume there would be any issue ordering direct from Kelblys?

From what I've read this is an item that should be changed out periodically, might order a few and keep some on hand - change yearly perhaps.

Off Topic / Cases for front rest and accessories
« on: October 08, 2022, 09:31:21 PM »
While attempting to create some type of order in my garage today I found a set of plastic ammo boxes I had purchased at Princess Auto a couple years ago. Looking at the size I was immediately hopeful one would work for my JJ Lo front rest, and one for the rear rest and some odds and ends.

The front rest is a perfect fit other than the lid on the box was 1/2" low. I was able to correct that by heating the lid with a heat gun and closing the lid with a spacer, this bent the lid enough to create about 1/4" gap on the top. A few pieces of foam glued to the corners where the feet of the rest are and it is perfect.

The second box I fitted some new foam in (also from PA), cut a recess for my rear bag, it also holds a couple boxes of ammo, a metal ammo stand, and the base for the front rest. Items in this case may change, but it's a good start.

I think I paid $30 for these boxes, they also com with 3 smaller ammo cans inside each one (set of 4) - pretty hard to beat for the price. Before this I had the front and rear rests in a large Rubbermaid type box, it was quite heavy and awkward.

Nice little project for a Saturday afternoon, and a good way to distract myself from a few chores that are calling my name!

Off Topic / New guy from Lethbridge
« on: September 09, 2022, 09:10:15 AM »
Good morning everyone,
I've been watching this forum for a few years now, figured it's time to officially join since I finally bought an actual BR rifle a few days ago!

I have been shooting in the Lethbridge league (hunter varmint/modified) for 3 years now and really enjoy it, just a few weeks ago I was finally able to shoot in our Leffingwell Memorial Shoot for the first time and naturally I had a great time, also got meet a few of you which was nice.

Looking forward, I hope to make it to the BR101 and 102 next year (also been trying to get to those for a couple years) and to haul my trailer to the occasional shoot - still warming my wife up to that idea! She's currently more concerned with how I'm going to replace the money I just took out of our savings to buy the rifle.  :o ;D

Seems like lots of helpful people here (most gun-folks are) and I look forward to learning lots and hopefully being able to contribute myself someday.
