Yesterday Hugh Williamson, Wally Pollock and, myself went to the LFGA grand re-opening of their facility. This coincided with National Range Day and the 99th Anniversary of the founding of the Club. Check them out at: https://lfga.club/

Numerous renovations have taken place, notable for bench shooters is the extension of the Range #2 which is the Benchrest range. It now includes an expanded firing line and 16 concrete benches.

A big shoutout to Dave Fisher and his crew for the fine work they have done to make this possible.

Benchrest is alive and well in Lethbridge!

Club Events / BR101 Clinic at Rosebud Range May 14, 2022
« on: March 20, 2022, 09:24:24 PM »
The Rosebud Silhouette & Benchrest Club is pleased to announce it will hold a Benchrest 101 Clinic on May 14, 2022 at the club. This is our first chance to resume these clinics after having to cancel the 2020 and 2021 clinics, and are we ever glad to be back and offering this clinic.

This clinic provides an introduction to competitive Benchrest shooting. The focus will be on short range (100-200 yd) group shooting using center fire BR rifles.

This clinic will appeal to the accuracy enthusiast who is serious about entering the world of competitive BR shooting. The Clinic will provide the first step of many steps in learning to shoot BR at a regional, national and international level. The clinic is available to shooters who have not taken the clinic in previous years. You do not have to be a Rosebud member to attend.

The Clinic takes the better part of a full day, so you will need to plan accordingly. We will start at around 9:00 AM with part of the morning taken up in the clubhouse discussing the basics of Benchrest shooting, such as suitable cartridges, rifles, reloading, the match format, among many other topics. We will also use the morning to set up wind flags and bench rest equipment such as front rest and rear bags.

There will be a 30 minute lunch break and then in the afternoon there will be informal shooting instruction on the rifle range. Students will shoot using state of the art BR rifles and rests, wind flags, and all other associated equipment. This will also be a good time to see what cartridge reloading at the range is all about, and to see what how to keep clean a rifle bore to BR standards.

For this Clinic the coaches will supply the rifles and ammo, along with all the other equipment necessary to shoot a match. A coach will be assigned to each student. There is no need to bring your own rifle or sand bags etc., the coaches will provide that. Note the coaches are current and past members of the club who shoot at the Regional, National and World level. These folks have been there, done that and got the T-shirt so to speak.

All you need to do is bring your hearing protection, eye protection, lunch and refreshments. We expect to be done at about 4:00 PM.

Depending on availability of spare rifles, coaches etc we will likely limit this to about 20 shooters. I would recommend people sign up early.

To register please contact me at the e-mail below, or feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Fellow Shooters,

At this point the WBSF has indicated the World Championships will be held in South Africa in 2023. Of course this is all subject to unforeseen circumstances and restrictions that the host country has no control over. There is no set date yet or location. We are all awaiting that information, but as per previous years the qualifying takes place a year in advance of the tournament.

Here is the qualifying process for the 2023 World Benchrest Team. There are a few things that each shooter needs to take care of to be eligible for the team:

1. Each shooter needs to declare their intention to enter the qualifying process by the end of February 2022. An email to rickpollock@shaw.ca registering their intention to qualify will be sufficient.
2. Each shooter needs to be a member of BRSC during the qualifying year and the competition year.
3. During the competition season in 2022, shooters will need to email rickpollock@shaw.ca with evidence of their placings at various events to be added to the qualifying points tally and roster of shooters. All sanctioned group shoots are eligible for points accumulation.
4. At the end of 2022 each shooter will be asked to confirm by email if they plan to attend the World Championships in South Africa and submit a $500 CDN deposit to the World Team to be used against the entry fee for the World Championship.

Note: the qualifying ranking will be in accordance to the previous years format with your rank based upon how many points you have accumulated in the qualifying year. Points are awarded based upon how many shooters you placed above in your (6) best Grand Aggregates (LV, HV, SP) during 2022. There will be a cap of available points in each Grand Aggregate based upon the total # of shooters entered in the 2022 Cactus Classic.

Team selection will be based on this final ranking of accumulated points, and receipt of entry fee deposit, with the final selection taking place no later than December 31st, 2022.

Friday practice day is available for everyone. Out of towners and non-members let me know in advance if you plan to participate in this so we can arrange access on the Friday.

If anybody need directions try this link: https://goo.gl/maps/j3MZ9Z2zfEA2 or https://www.albertarifle.com/directions

It is very helpful for us to know in advance who all is coming to this shoot, to arrange helpers and support to make the match run smoothly To that end please let me know if you are attending, unless we have communicated already.

Last thought, I will have an area set up for a swap meet, so feel free to bring items you wish to display for sale.

BRSC - Benchrest Shooters Canada / Dan Opel
« on: June 04, 2020, 09:33:56 AM »
It is with profound sadness I am letting everyone know that Dan Opel passed away yesterday. Dan was a friend to shooters far and wide. He was a mentor to many and one of the guys you could always count on to be at a match and support anyone who needed help in this game. Dan was the President of the BRSC and a strong supporter of the Canadian World Team. So many fond memories it is difficult to know where to start. We are sure to miss him. Please keep his wonderful wife Sue in your thoughts and prayers.
