Reminder to everyone that Rosebud will be hosting their last shoot of the 2018 season, the Alberta Provincials on September 1/2. This will be the conventional format of a LV and HV shoot at 100 yards on Saturday, and a HV then LV shoot at 200 yards on the Sunday.

The range will open for practice on the Friday, and camping is available with prior notice.

Interested shooters should contact me at rickpollock@shaw.ca as we always like to get an idea of attendance when organizing helpers.

First shots at 9am. The range is open for practice on the Friday, any out of towners should get in touch with me to arrange access. We will gather round the BBQ on the Saturday after shooting has finished to tell some stories and grill some meat. Note that you will need to bring your own food and drink for this one.

And lastly please let me know if you plan to attend so we can plan the helpers accordingly.

Club Events / Cactus Classic 2018
« on: March 14, 2018, 03:56:28 PM »
12 Canadians made the trek to Phoenix to participate in the 2018 Cactus Classic. Here is an excellent write up of the event by Ryan Neal:
--------------------------------
Thank you for coming out to shoot the 2018 Cactus Classic. We are thrilled to say that this match saw a total of 157 shooters this year, the largest that we have seen in quite some time! Shooters from as far away as Sweden came out to enjoy a mostly sunny week.

The first few days of practice saw quite  a bit of wind in the morning, but the rest of the week saw some pretty mild, even if sometimes switchy, conditions. We ended the week of practice on Friday night with a banquet where we gave away prizes that were donated to the match by various sponsors; including scopes, barrels, stocks, and more.

Saturday we started with Light Varmint 100 yards. Durward Wofford took match 1 with a 0.123, Keith Cottrell took match 2 with a 0.109, Dean Ekstrom took match 3 with a 0.102 which earned him small group for the LV-100, Peter Haxel took match 4 with a 0.105, and Joe Pipola took match 5 with a 0.120. Larry Baggett came in 3rd in the LV-100 agg with a 0.1856, Hugh Williamson came in 2nd with a 0.1834, and Jonas Sandberg came in 1st with a 0.1818.
Wayne Miller came in 3rd with a 0.2220,
In the afternoon we shot Heavy Varmint 100 yards. Tom DeBacco took match 1 with a 0.095 which got him small group for the yardage, Gabriel Ledesma took match 2 with a 0.116, Lowell Frei took match 3 with a 0.104, Jack Childers took match 4 with a 0.129, and Greg King took match 5 with a 0.106. Keith Cottrell came in 3rd in the HV-100 agg with a 0.1976, Robert Seeman came in 2nd with a 0.1920, and Wayne Campbell came in 1st with a 0.1864.

Sunday morning’s weather took a turn and we ended up with pouring rain in the early morning. Unfortunately for the target crew, it was still pouring while they were putting in the targets. Luckily for our shooters, the rain calmed down by the time we started shooting. The rest of the day saw sunny and fairly calm conditions.

We shot Heavy Varmint 200 yards first on Sunday. William Marsh took match 1 with a 0.271, Dennis Wagner took match 2 with a 0.242, Dennis Thornbury took match 3 with a 0.201 which got him small group for HV-200, Richard Brensing took match 4 with a 0.209, and Dennis Thornbury took match 5 with a 0.252. In the HV-200 agg, Bob Scarbrough came in 3rd with a 0.1921, Dean Ekstrom came in 2nd with a 0.1867, and Wayne Campbell came in 1st with a 0.1731.

In the afternoon we shot Light Varmint 200 yards. Lester Bruno took match 1 with a 0.235, Paul Pennell took match 2 with a 0.241, Gabriel Ledesma took match 3 with a 0.253, Joel Nader took match 4 with a 0.121, and Jack Neary took match 5 with a 0.109 that got him small group for the yardage. For the LV-200 agg,  Jack Neary came in 2nd with a 0.1823, and Joel Nader came in 1st with a 0.1821.

For the Light Varmint grand agg, Jack Neary came in 3rd with a 0.2173, Joel Nader came in 2nd with a 0.2127, and Jonas Sandberg came in 1st with a 0.2042. For the Heavy Varmint grand agg, Dean Ekstrom came in 3rd with a 0.2189, Dave Gibson came in 2nd with a 0.2150, and Wayne Campbell came in 1st with a 0.1798. In the end for the 2-Gun grand agg, Andy Shifflett came in 5th with a 0.2331, Jack Neary came in 4th with a 0.2327, Dean Ekstrom came in 3rd with a 0.2308, Joel Nader came in 2nd with a 0.2188, and Wayne Campbell came away our 2018 Cactus Classic 2-Gun winner with a 0.2100.

Another big thank you for making the trip out here to Phoenix, we are thrilled that we had such a great showing this year and always appreciate you choosing the Cactus as one of your must-attend matches. We hope to see you next month for the April 7th-8th Unlimited 5-shot Season Closing Match.

Club Events / BR101 Clinic May 12, 2018 - Rosebud
« on: January 13, 2018, 08:05:23 PM »
BR 101 Invitation

Welcome to the Top Fuel or F1 of the shooting world.

For the 7th year, The Rosebud Silhouette & Benchrest Club is pleased to announce it will hold a Benchrest 101 Clinic on May 12, 2018 at the club. This clinic provides an introduction to competitive Benchrest shooting. The focus will be on short range (100-200 yd) group shooting using center fire BR rifles.

This clinic will appeal to the accuracy enthusiast who is serious about entering the world of competitive BR shooting. The Clinic will provide the first step of many steps in learning to shoot BR at a national and international level. The clinic is available to shooters who have not taken the clinic in previous years. You do not have to be a Rosebud member to attend.

The Clinic takes the better part of a full day, so you will need to plan accordingly. We will start at around 9:00 AM with part of the morning taken up in the clubhouse discussing the basics of Benchrest shooting, such as suitable cartridges, rifles, reloading, the match format, among many other topics. We will also use the morning to set up wind flags and bench rest equipment such as front rest and rear bags.

There will be a 30 minute lunch break and then in the afternoon there will be informal shooting instruction on the rifle range. Students will compete using state of the art BR rifles and rests, wind flags, and all other associated equipment. This will also be a good time to see what BR reloading at the range is all about, and to see what BR bore cleaning is all about.

For the informal shoot the rifles will be provided, along with all the other equipment necessary to shoot a match. A coach will be assigned to each student. There is no need to bring a rifle or sand bags etc., the coaches will provide that. Note the coaches are current and past members of the club who shoot at the Regional, National and World level. These folks have been there, done that and got the T-shirt so to speak.

All you need to do is bring your hearing protection, eye protection, lunch and refreshments. We expect to be done at about 4:00 PM.

Depending on availability of spare rifles, coaches etc we will likely limit this to about 12 shooters. I would recommend people sign up early.

To register please contact me at the e-mail below. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
