Left to right: Official Scorer Al Carlson, Burt Bastien shooter, Official Scorer Grant Schick.

Sunday June 30th Lake of the Woods Gun Club in Kenora Ontario held our annual 500 meter bench rest match. Burt Bastien shot this .984" five shot group on his first target in the morning. Burt was shooting a factory Cooper Montana Varminter M22 in 6br with 15-55X Nightforce scope.  Ammo was Lapua cases, Federal 205 primers, Varget, Lapua 105 grain Scenar. Burt's score aggregate was 237/250 for second place in score. Burt's group aggregate was 2.6264" for 1st place. Phil Nick's range record of 2.6125" still stands.

.984" is a small group range record that is likely to stand for a long time.

Thought I would share this from the clubs website submitted by Dwayne Cyr.

May 26th, 2019 Rimfire Benchrest Match Results

Despite the cold dreary start with temps just above freezing and the wind out of the north east, 16 hardy competitors attended. Some wore long John’s and others wished they did.

Unlimited Class

1st Ron McDaniel 750 – 43X new range record*

2nd Rod Jack 750 – 43X

3rd Grant Schick 748 – 32X

Although 1st and 2nd place are statistically tied in points and X dots, the first shooter to miss an X dot takes second. The range record for Unlimited Class of 750 – 42X set by Rod Jack July 29th, 2018 fell to Ron McDaniel.

Sporter Class

1st Rod Macdonell 710 – 13X

2nd Jacques Choquette 706 – 11X

3rd Ryan Jackson 706 – 9X

Thanks to Official Scorer Al Carlson, referees Rod, Grant and Lawrence, Target Detail Phil and Hellene, Colleen for pizza delivery and all the other volunteers who pitched in for set up and take down.

Rifles / SOLD For Sale: Rem 700. 270
« on: April 14, 2019, 11:10:13 AM »
As the title says.

This rifle from what I can find by serial number is from Dec. 65.  It is in excellent shape and the bore looks good for a rifle of this age.  I had the stock refinished as the old thick varnish was starting to peel off.  No rust.  Was well cared for.  Not sure what number owner I am.  The trigger is crisp for a factory.  The only thing I replaced is the upper lever on the trigger.  The old was a 2 piece lever which I changed out for a one piece.  There are a few pits in the bolt face from likely primer blow by.

Asking 500.00 plus shipping.

This is rifle only.  No scope or mounts.  Will include the bases.  With that you will get  if you want 34 rounds of reloads which are 140gr Accubonds over H4831 S/C powder.

For additional fee I can sell the RCBS Neck Die set.  158 140gr Nosler Accubonds and 30 pieces of brass.  180.00 for all.

The Accubonds were 55.95 per box of 50.

Contact me via text or call.  1-204-570-1956.  Serious inquiries only.  Shipping is extra.

BR Equipment + Components / For Sale: Remington 700 Youth stock
« on: September 19, 2017, 01:41:29 PM »
This is a black synthetic that has been bedded.  It is from what was a Rem 700 Youth in .243.

I have shot the barrel out and have a project rifle in mind.  The stock is not needed now.  The only kicker is it will likely need a new Limbsaver recoil pad.  It is started  to melt/disintegrate.  Not sure why but have been reading about that issue lately.

Asking 60.00 FIRM plus shipping.  Stock looks good.  Email for pics.

Call or Text ONLY to 1-204-570-1956.

Lake of the Woods Gun Club Rifle Division Holds 200 Meter Benchrest for Score Match      August 27th, 2017

The last match of the year was attended by 16 shooters. The early morning was cool and gloomy. By late morning the sun came out warming temperatures to almost comfortable in a T shirt. Wind conditions were moderate but switchy out of the north. Competition was thrilling and exciting with the lead changing hands with each target shot. Hunter Class winner Brian Prouty started strong and ended strong. Ken Chambers was consistent.

In Varmint Hunter Class, the rivalry continued between Gavin Carlson and Jack siblings. This time it was Donovan’s turn to grin.

In Varmint for Score/Open Class Calvin Yanchycki from Brandon finally beat the home boys in Kenora winning his first score match. His wind condition held long enough to machine gun 50 points on his last target to clinch the win. Second place Matt Cyr had not fired a centerfire shot since the 200 Meter event in August 2016. “Just like riding a bicycle” he said. Phil was hoarding his Nationals winning barrel and instead used a shot out barrel only suitable for a tomato stake to secure 4th place. Fun was had by all.

Hunter Class
1st Brian Prouty 218
2nd Ken Chambers 213 – 1X
3rd Spencer King 95

Varmint Hunter Class
1st Donovan Jack 231 – 1X
2nd Gavin Carlson 229 – 1X
3rd Brian Prouty 220 – 1X

Varmint for Score/Open Class
1st Calvin Yanchycki 247 – 4X
2nd Matt Cyr 246 – 3X
3rd Dwayne Cyr 245 – 5X

Many thanks to all competitors who came out to support the Rifle Division. Some travelled considerable distances. Thanks to Rod and Donovan Jack for the barbeque. Thanks to Target Crew Phil and Donovan, to Official Scorer Al Carlson, to the 3 Referees and thanks to RSO Dave Neilan for cracking the whip and keeping the relays moving. Now the plotting and scheming begins, new barrels, different powder, bullets, new rear sand bag, find time to practice and figure out how to do better next time.

Club Events / Lake of the Woods Gun Club Rimfire Score July 2017
« on: August 01, 2017, 01:28:09 PM »

Eighteen shooters attended, some traveled considerable distances. It was a Hot day reaching 30 degrees with no wind in the morning and mild readable breezes in afternoon. The lack of wind produced some very high scores in all classes.

In Semi Auto Class, Ron McDaniel’s 2014 record fell to Ken Chambers who raised the range record by 6 points. In Unlimited Class Ron Pettigrew shot patiently and defensively, taking no chances, using all the time allowed to shoot clean and tie the existing range record set by Phil Nick in 2012. Sporter Class had the potential to reset the range record but luck and other factors intervened.

Congratulations to the winners. It was interesting to watch the tight five-way horse races unfold and the animated reactions to dropped shots from dirty barrels, inconsistent ammo and mysterious unexplained invisible anomalies.

Semi Auto Class
1st Ken Chambers 735 – 18X * New Range Record
2nd Al Cardinal 721 – 13X
3rd Brian Prouty 688 – 15X

Sporter Class
1st Matt Cyr 740 – 23X
2nd Brian Prouty 738 – 25X
3rd Katelyn Jack 738 – 18X

Unlimited Class
1st Ron Pettigrew 750 – 41X
2nd Rod Jack 749 – 40X
3rd Grant Schick 749 – 30X

Special thanks to the Rod Jack family for putting on a great barbeque and feeding us lunch. Thanks to the volunteers who ran targets, helped score, acted as line safety officers and referees. And thanks to the shooters in all classes for the quality of competition they bring to our matches.

for another wonderful match.

This past weekend was the 50M rimfire score match.  I am sure all who attended were as pleased as I was.  Well except for the wind which whipped up as the day went on.  Even though, there were some good targets shot.

If you every get the chance stop by.  For a small club it is very progressive.

Thanks again Dwayne for you and Colleen's hospitality.  Cannot forget Smith Camps for the awesome buffet Saturday night and Todd for picking up the tab.

I owe everyone out there so much.

Maybe next year...... Harbourest. ..😉
