BRSC - Benchrest Shooters Canada / BRSC AGM July 1, 2016
« on: May 16, 2016, 05:05:40 PM »
As usual the plans are to hold a short AGM meeting on Friday after practice.

Currently there is not a lot to discuss.  The main thing will be to go over Financials, some World's discussion and what ever else gets submitted to Vicky.

If anyone has anything they want clarified or discussed Please forward it on to Vicky.

A very small organization does not take a lot to run.  I will have more time the end of June when I hookup with Dave and Vicky in St. Louis at the East/West.

I am sure Rick will have the match info up shortly for the BRSC Nationals at Rosebud the July 1st Long Weekend.

See you soon.

Rimfire Discussions / CZ 452 first target of the year
« on: March 06, 2016, 07:05:56 PM »

Did not have an extra scope so I pulled my VX 3 8.5-25 off of my Rem 700 .223 and put it on my customized CZ 452.  Went to the farm and sighted it in.  Decided to give it a run on a score target at 50 yards today.  This is the first and only target I shot with this particular brand of ammo.  Winds were manageable from about 1-2:30.

Figure I will take this and 2 more and I will be very happy.  Think I need to order more ammo......

Not bad for a CZ with a few modifications....

On behalf of the Selkirk Benchrest Shooters I want to thank those who made the trex to MB to compete in the 2015 Nationals.

When I say Nationals many around the world will say what????  only 17 shooters..... well we are a VAST country just like many BR countries.  We are a small group but love the game.

To those that came I hope we did our best to run a good match.  In time I am sure it will even get better.

For now I just have a picture of the winners and know Rick will post the results as soon as he can after I send him the PDF files.  I can say that practice day on Friday the winds were sleeping.  Come Saturday, the Selkirk wind Gods were upon us.  Regardless Rick Pollock had a rifle that was working or maybe he had lucked out and found the honey hole........  Regardless, he was able to figure things out quite well at 100.  Saturday evening about 1.5 hours after we were done shooting saw a torrential downpour.  Thankfully most of us were inside enjoying a beverage or 2 or dinner.

Sunday came the return of the calmer winds.  I know a lot of us were hoping for more but it would not happen.  Lack of wind and a lot of funny things happening on the targets left many of us scratching our heads.

Anyway, I can type more and more but I am not a secretary.  I am a service tech......

Back L to R:  Dan Opel, Dan Henderson, Dwayne Cyr, Murray Benson
Front L to R:  Rick Pollock, Hugh Williamson, Phil Nick

What I can say is that Hugh Williamson is the defending BRSC Nationals Champion and defended it in great fashion winning the 2015 Nationals.  Rick Pollock finished 2nd, Dan Henderson, Phil Nick and Dan Opel round off the top 5.  Hugh takes home the Charlie Womack Memorial Trophy (middle)

The PPC Cup (aka Prairie Provincial Cup) was taken by team Alberta which consisted of a stacked team of the top 3 shooters this weekend in Hugh, Rick and Dan H.  The PPC Cup is the trophy on the right side which was started and donated by the Regina Benchrest Club which unfortunately no longer is with us......  Second was team Ontario with Phil, Dwayne and Gord.  Third was Manitoba with Grant, Larry (new 1st time shooter), myself.

I am getting a few requests to know what happened it.  I will put a short blurb here but those that are current BRSC members will eventually have the AGM minutes e-mailed to them.  There are a few that we have no e-mail addresses for so you should get them someway.  Ideally being a SMALL group it would be ideal to have everyones e-mail address to forward them in that manner.

Hello all.  I just want to remind everyone that July 4-5 will be the BRSC Nationals in Selkirk, Manitoba.

Friday will be practice day.  If you plan on coming sooner please let me know and I will draft up a letter for you.

Friday evening will be the AGM.  I know we ALL hate the AGM but I PROMISE to keep it as short as possible.  There is some growth in BRSC so there is more information to share about our growth than actual business.  This is all in part to the tireless work of Joe Mendham and Jim Latham in BC who held there first ever Registered 1 day HV BR Group shoot earlier this month.  I beleive we gained 9 new members from this shoot.  The Rosebud gang is also working tirelessly at there BR 101 School.  They also may have some other news to share at the AGM.  Finally to Dave Holmes and Vicky in Ontario who are working in the East to bring BRSC back.  So things are definately looking up.

Saturday will be the usual course of fire.

Sat AM:  LV 100
Sat PM:  HV 100

Sun AM:  HV 200
Sun PM:  LV 200

The awards ceremony to follow after completion.   I am hoping to get this concluded as quickly as possible so as to let our travelers begin there journey home as this is not a long weekend.

If you want to camp, you are more than welcome.  There are outdoor toilets but I am sure I can make arrangements for you to use the running water facilities in the club house.

In closing, if you are paid up member of BRSC and have any questions or suggestions for the upcoming AGM or shoot, please feel free to call/text me at 1-204-570-1956 or e-mail at cyanchyc@live.ca.

I will be getting out an AGM Agenda in the next week or so to those who I have e-mails for.

Thanks for your time.

Here is one KICKER to this Match.  I will NOT be there until LATE Friday evening.  Work scheduling does not allow me to get Friday off.  So I may not even be there until Saturday AM.  If you are wanting to practice on Fiday, contact Murray Benson.

This really sucks as this is the only match this year at Selkirk.  Depending how things go for me I may or may not shoot.  There is a lot to do even with a small match to get ready.  Please pass the word around.

It would be nice if someone has a picture or 2 of Chris when he won the BRSC Nationals that we could share.  If someone has one and can e-mail it to be I would put it up on BR Central.

Will miss spending time with him at the range.

Well what are your thoughts?

I switched from Butch's to Aqua Clean. Was tired of the smell and getting all that bad juju on my skin. I hate wearing gloves as I want to know if it is on my fingers so I do not pass it on to finishes it may harm.

I had concerns whether or not it would be effective. To be safe I decided to use it in tandem with Bore Tech Elimator for the copper. 3 wet with Aqua Clean, brushed with Bore tech, dried, then lightly lubed with Eezox. I did this for years not owning a bore scope knowing if it was working. A quick check with a borescope advised me it was working. I have a small carbon ring in the throat but I am not concerned as I trim my brass every time I reload it. That was 2 years ago.

Today I borrowed a friends scope to look at some new Bartleins. I really like how they look inside. Are these the ones?

Decided to confirm my cleaning again. No copper but a light copper wash about 4" out from the throat. What to use? Flitz paste or Flitz liquid bore cleaner? I decided to short stroke 3 patches with the Flitz liquid bore cleaner, cleaned with 4 wet Aqua clean patches, dried, then scoped again. Copper wash gone.

Needless to say I am happy with my solvent choices.

I also use Canadian made First Choice bore cleaner as cannot seem to get Aqua Clean in Canada anymore. Canadian laws supposedly. It works just as well if not better.

just some info for the water based skeptics. Your body and environment will love you for the switch.

BRSC - Benchrest Shooters Canada / 2014 BRSC Memberships are due........
« on: January 10, 2014, 08:15:55 PM »
Good evening everyone.  As you know 2013 has come and gone along with a lot of paid up memberships.  I ask that you please do your best to renew before your first upcoming match.  I know first hand that there is nothing worse than trying to run a match, load, shoot, put out fires, and collect memberships all the while trying to have a good shoot yourself.  This is one less thing that we have to worry about come match day which  makes it easier for you and those trying to collect.  In other words, MYSELF.

Some of you may not be current active members of BRSC, but I am hopeful that you will continue to show your support in some manner.  The support that I am looking for is that past members continue to show there support of the BRSC by purchasing an annual membership.  As you are all well aware, the only monies collected to run BRSC are the membership fees, match fees, and the occasional measuring challenge.  It is a small price to help keep the BRSC going and growing.  Our yearly expenses are about the same as what we collect.  This is my appeal to you.  I know it is a lot to ask for when one may not be competing but I am hopeful that maybe one day we will see you again at the firing line.  We are never to old to play the game.  Walt Berger is a prime example.  He continues to show people how to shoot.

If you know of anyone that may not see this please forward this on to them.  It would be nice to see the membership grow.  If you are unsure if you are current or not just give Paul Ross a call or me a PM.  I believe there is only 11 members who are current for 2014/2015.

Finally, I think we should all thank Rick Pollock for his unselfish time in creating a Forum for the voice of Benchrest in Canada.  Rick took it upon himself to create the forum and the BRSC webpage.  Thanks Rick for being a HUGE part of the sport and taking time to promote Bench Rest in Canada.

See you at the firing line soon.
