Centerfire Discussions / Re: Neck size diameter
« on: February 10, 2018, 09:08:38 AM »
As was stated above neck clearance of .002” is a good target.
If you accurately measure the brass from each chamber you will see how much it differs from each other.
We normally measure the neck, shoulder and base dimensions of the fired and sized brass as the way to match up the sizing die to the chamber. One measurement that doesn’t get the attention it should is the shoulder (tapered part) bump back. It is common to see the dimensions over sized which effects the headspace clearance on sizes brass.
In a target type rifle this should again be in the .002” range of bump back. In a hunting rifle a bit more bump back is recommended to handle adverse environmental conditions.
The closer you can match the sized brass back the chamber dimensions the better it aligns the projectile to the bore.

BR Equipment + Components / Re: WTB 6ppc reamer .262
« on: November 18, 2017, 08:11:30 AM »
Curious as to why the interest in a .262" neck?
In the last few years the the majority of reamers are in the .268-.269" range.
If you have a specific reamer dimension you would like you can order one to those specs. without any additional cost.

We will be there.

The amount of bullet in the neck is not a real big concern. With powders like N-133 which seem to like lots of neck tension on the bullet to aid in pressure curve, may be a slight issue.
As you are not using the magazine to feed, I would not worry about the amount of bullet in the neck, just feed the rifle what it shoots well.
If the bullets are flat base you should be fine, a boat tail will have less neck grip due to the reduced bearing surface.
With the dies you are using you should still be able to make minimal runout loads.
I once had a 40XBR that had .010" of bullet grip on a .223 50gr Berger bullet.
It shot pretty good.
You may find that your rifle may like a wee bit of bullet jump, so do test that option.

Thank you to Rick, Hugh, Wayne and their wives for hosting a great event at the Rosebud range on Saturday.
My feed back is two thumbs up, and the fellow participants that I talk with, all had nothing put positive feed back about the days events.
Wayne provide a new level of understanding about the BR game which was/is muchly appreciated.
Thanks again to all involved.
