Centerfire Discussions / Re: Returned 6NIA
« on: December 27, 2016, 09:36:07 AM »
I had sent in a Form 6 in after June 16th, and my normal application information was rejected due to smokeless powder and primers being listed on the form.
I called in the find out why this was now an issue, in was told as of June 16th, smokeless powder was classified as an explosive.
My research on the subject did not show that smokeless powder or primers falling in the US explosives list.
I called in to get clarification and pointed out this point, they followed up on the question and got back to me with the response that the ATF considered smokeless powder an explosive as one of its components was listed in the explosive category.
I removed these two items from the form 6 and it was approved.
My other question was how one would be able to take powder and primers south, they suggested that I look into an explosive licence. I have not checked out the process or cost yet.

Another point to coincided is weight, most external adjustable mounts add weight.

Thank you all for the wishes.
It was a very good shoot, weather was on the warm side getting into the 100+ range every day.
Wind conditions were typical Phoenix, with only one day where it got close to the stupid side.
Hugh and Rob got their equipment working and figured out the conditions to have some very good yardages.
Rick shot very consistent and started to place better as the week went on.
Wayne had a rail gun that decided to give him a challenge, he worked very hard on getting it up and running.
For myself I did quite poorly, tune and condition reading hurt my efforts.
Overall, it was a good shoot, well run buy the Berger group, great give a ways.
The only negative was that there was very few vender tents there, so most saved some money that they would normall spend on "gun bling".

Congratulations on winning the Alberta Provincials Hugh, real tough wind conditions which makes the win that much more deserving.

Rick, keep up the good work of organizing this event. Thanks to Keith for stepping up to the plate for the RF discipline.
Hopefully we will see a few of the folks join the BR ranks.

I to only knew Jim for a short time, but truly enjoyed our conversations.
His drive to grow the shooting sports was greatly appreciated.
His passing will leave a hole in the Mission Club.
Joe please pass on our condolences to the family.

The holder works great as demonstrated by Rick, the good thing about it is you can other shell holders for other case head sizes.

If what I heard is correct, Taber is building a 600 yard to 1000 plus range at there new range location.
Might be worth checking into.

Hi Chad, there is not much in the way of organized 1000 BR.
They do shoot in Missula MT.
Check with Dick Petsch (Dicks Gunsmithing) in Calgary he is competing in the game.
You may be able to cross over to F Class events which there is more events
I believe that Henry Rempel (Langdon) runs the F Class events in Calgary.

Centerfire Discussions / Re: Question about Railguns
« on: December 16, 2015, 05:16:33 PM »
Well Vic I don't have any real experience with a rail yet, but all the rails I have seen use a barrel block set up.
Some are v blocks and some are round hole blocks. Some use insulating materials between the barrel and the block, others clamp directly to the barrel. My understanding is the amount of clamping force, ie bolt tourque is critical to performance.
With rail barrels at 1.45" or bigger, a barrel block seems to the only way to go without unduly stressing the barrel to receiver joint.
