Is this a switch bolt gun also? A 300 mag and a BR use different bolts and you may have extraction problems.

Duh yah I missed that............. 300 Win Mag and 6BR.........

Need a different bolt unless it is a Savage then you can just replace the head

yes there would definatly be extraction problems...$200 for an aftermarket bolt is alot better than a whole new action, bases, stock plus the action is already squared.  also i need to buy a barrel vise and action wrench..

Initially you are right, but you truly have to add up the cost monetarily and physically. You have to switch scopes if the type of shooting is different, every time you change barrels you will have to sight in to get back on target and the shear inconvenience. The barrels have a limited life and you may spend a quarter of it sighting in. You may also change barrels and grab the wrong bolt and head off to wherever you are going and realize you have the wrong bolt. The decision is yours, don't try to save a 100 bucks to spend 400 later. My take would be a 6BR also.

My 6BR did real well from 100 to 500 meters 107gr. mk & an 8' twist Gaillard. Never had the oppertunity to shoot at 1000.

Jamie, John hit the nail on the head on what he said.  If you dump a lot of money into a Rem 700 to customize it you will NEVER get your money back.  If you can save a bit, sell a few items that are not used anymore, you can find a real nice used BR rig if that is what one is looking for.

I did a Rem 700 6BR as my first build.  I am very happy with it but,  if I took all the money that went into it I could have had a VERY NICE used BR rifle.  I know I can sell the action as the builder would buy it back but there is all the other money that went into it and it is still not like my custom build.

Don't mean to rain on your parade but be aware that if you do a semi custom you do it for yourself.
