King of the Hill Update for June 1, 2021

Recent declines in covid numbers and recently achieved milestones for vaccination rates and hospitalizations in Alberta are giving a green light to proceed August 29th.

Korth Group (Leupold and Hornady in Canada) has agreed to come in as one of the sponsors for the prize draw table for the event, along with Hugh Williamson Precision, Stinger Ballistics, and Plenty O Patches.

Registrations are well over half now, do not miss your chance to participate in this multi-discipline, few restrictions competition!

To receive a t-shirt, a paid up registration (with shirt size) needs to be received by June 30th.

Registration details and rules are available in this forum posted above.

Good luck to all!

Re: 2021 King of the Hill (300 yard group target)
« Reply #6 on: July 20, 2021, 03:30:29 PM »
For those interested in the 300 group yard target, we will be using the official 300 yard benchrest target.
You will note in the image below, There are two areas, one is the "record" target (above) and one below is the "sighter" area (marked with an "S").
You can shoot as many shots into the "sighter" target as you may require, even between record rounds to check for changing wind conditions.

Your group in the "record" area needs 5 shots to count.
More than 5 in the "record" area, will be scored across the 2 shots farthest apart.

« Reply #7 on: July 20, 2021, 04:00:25 PM »
For the 300 yard score shoot, we will be using the regulation 200 yard score target, BUT set at 300 yards.
You will note 6 bulls on the target. 5 bulls are for record, 1 bull in the bottom right is reserved for "sighters" and marked with "S".

A single shot must be placed in each of the 5 "record" bulls. The bulls are 6" across.

The center ring is the "10 Ring". Touching or breaking the 10 ring will count as 10 points. Touching the center dot will count as 11 points.
The sighter target illustrates the points available as you progress away from the center. Final outside ring is worth 5 points.

More than one shot on a record bull will be scored with the worst shot.

Shots landing outside the rings and still in the "record" area will be scored zero. The shot must be touching a ring to earn points.

Competitor score is the total points from the 5 record shots.

There are no limits on sighter shots.

Re: 2021 King of the Hill (500m gongs)
« Reply #8 on: August 02, 2021, 07:41:28 PM »
For the 500m gong shoot we will be using the gongs shown in the video below
Video was shot from the firing line with smoke and mirage conditions, so bear with us on the quality.

Please note a LED light system has been placed on the large gong to indicate hits. The 2 smaller gongs swing visibly when hit and are easier to identify.

Large gong 16" diameter (all dimensions approximate) 1 point
Medium gong 8" 5 Points
Small gong 4"   15 Points

You will have 7 minutes to fire 7 scoring rounds. There are no sighters allowed.
Competitors will shoot the course twice for a total of 14 scoring rounds.

Competitor must declare the gong size prior to shooting. The scorekeeper/judge will only declare hit or miss.

I agree with Duceman.  There is a lot of work that goes into organizing these events and keeping them operating smoothly.  Great job by all and it was a lot fun and I really enjoyed the course of fire.  Looking forward to the next one.

2021 King of the Hill match results are in!

Congratulations to Rob Seemann for taking first overall. Rob placed 1st in the 300 yard group shoot, 1st in the 300 yard score shoot, and 3rd in the 500 meter gong event. All match results are available in the attached photos.

Total prize money distributed across the 5 top competitors overall was $1,920.

Many thanks need to be given out to people that made the event a success!

-Rick Pollock and Hugh Williamson for manning the spotting scopes and scoring the gong event and for doing great work running the range and keeping people safe
-also to our target crew keeping things moving along on the benchrest side and gong painting in the afternoon
-Tyler Edmunds and Vic Edmunds for getting the 300 yard target frames in shape for a competition
-to our great sponsors that stepped up for the prize table: Hugh Williamson Precision, Korth Group, March Canada, Plenty O' Patches and Stinger Ballistics

And of course many thanks to the 27 competitors that stepped in on an unknown competition! There was some great shooting on a course of fire that many had never even seen or even attempted before. Well done!
