Bullet Seating Depth - Best tools / methods?
« on: November 17, 2011, 01:09:53 PM »
Can anyone shed some light on the best, and most accurate method of determining the bullet seating depth for a particular bullet and rifle???

I have heard about the dummy round chambering, using a marked bullet and some different types of oal and comparator gauges......

I don't mind spending some $$$ on the tools if it will make seating off the lands a more accurate and repeatable process.

Thoughts anyone?

Usually I will make a seating depth (headspace guage) with the off-cut end of the barrel.
This needs to be cut with the same reamer used to cut the chamber of course.
Once the length is established with a headspace guage then it is a simple matter to adjust for jam or jump by keeping track of the vernier calipers size wise.
