Center Fire Benchrest Match 3- March 10, 2013 at Mission Rod and Gun Club:

It was still fairly brisk for Match 3 of 2013, but at least in BC we can shoot, unlike some parts of the Great White North. We had 9 shooters; David Porter joined us for the first time and we think we have another recruit.  Once he got the scope straightened out on his factory rifle he produced some fine shooting. With bipod on his .223 he shot a 49. We also had our first Junior Shooter, Sam Parotta’s Nephew Matthew Parrotta, who is learning quickly and really improved over the 5 targets. Sam had to sit out following a car accident on the infamous Patullo Bridge when some chap decided to drive where Sam already was. We are glad Sam is mostly okay even if his vehicle is not.
Everyone shot their usual rifles except Frank who again brought another rifle, but this one looks like it is a benchrest gun. Joe passed on an old BR stock which Frank is already making work very well indeed. No issues for Wally, Lowell, Art, Chris or Joe this time at all. And it was great to have Chris back with us. His house building took a break this weekend and we are pleased.
In preparation for the May 5th Fraser Valley Championship we shot our first full 200 yard 5 target match. I did not shoot due to the crowding and the fact that we cannot clear all the berms from every bench at 200 yards; we are working on that. Despite our lack of experience at 200 there were some very fine targets shot. Art had a 50 with his beautiful SAKO 6ppc sporter. Wally and Lowell each got a 50 as well, Chris managed a 52 and a 50, and Frank almost got Joe with two 50’s and two 51’s. But again Joe squeaked one more point in total and was the match winner. However it is great to see both Frank and Chris challenging Joe. And by next match I hope to have my new 30BR  BAT actioned VFS HV rifle ready to go; I need the advantage of that 30 calibre bullet!

For those of you wondering about the scores over 50 per target, we score the pencil dot center as an 11 rather than counting as X rings so a 55 would be a perfect target and 275 would be a perfect 5 target Match.
