Clayton Martin
« on: February 16, 2015, 08:30:05 PM »
I am sad to report that Clayton Martin has passed. An email from Vera Carter has been circulated with the news.

I finally had the chance to meet Clayton this year in Holton. What an interesting guy, so much knowledge, and what a character. Here is the only picture I have of him, in the company of some other fine shooters from Canada. I can only hope to be shooting into my 90's!

If you have pictures of Clayton to share, post them here, or send them to me and I will post them. Feel free to add to this post as you see fit.

Here is a note I received from Clayton's Family.

------------------------------------

A few of you commented about Dad on the U.S. benchrest forum, and quite a few shooters came out to Dad’s memorial. We had posted a note on that forum but wanted to share it here too. We'd like to say thanks for your wonderful comments about our Dad. He loved shooting with all of you and that grin he always had was there in part because he was doing what he loved, with people that he loved to be with. He spoke as much of the friendships as he did the competition. It will come as no surprise to you that he was shooting up until January in the freezing cold – experimenting as he did non-stop - and working every day in his shop preparing for the coming season. He’d always say, “I’m going to keep doing this as long as I can.” I am sorry he won’t be able to join you for one more summer. Spending time on the range with his friends brought him much happiness. Someone mentioned an inner calm he had, and they are right. Part of that came from being completely comfortable with who he was, and a good part of that came because he was doing what he enjoyed, and because he felt at home.

Our thanks to Alex Calder for driving Dad to so many U.S. competitions. You made it possible for him to enjoy his sport south of the boarder. We also want to thank all of you for being a part of our Dad’s life and helping to make his retirement years so happy and rewarding. The next time you are together, please raise a glass to him, he’ll still be there grinning right along with you.

Thanks for that Rick.   Won't be hard to raise a glass to Clayton this year. He will be missed for certain.

Randy.
