ORSA - Ontario Rifle Shooters Association / ORSA Shoot Oct 4-5
« on: October 06, 2025, 04:16:19 AM »
The last shoot is complete for the ORSA group for this year. We had beautiful fall weather, with sunshine all weekend long!
Many thanks to the Elmira Rod & Gun club, the membership, and directors, for their support throughout this year.
For many of us who do not compete in the USA, this is the only place we can get together and enjoy this sport, and fellowship.
Thank you to the ORSA membership. I look forward to seeing all of you every year!!
Thanks goes out to the people that make ORSA work, Brian Shoemaker, Paul Connor, Steve Hornsby, Bill Mitchell, Cole Timbers and Stewart Forrest. These are the people we counted on all season long to keep things safe, and enjoyable.
Also thank you to all the volunteers that showed up over this past year to help out with target crews, RSO, scoring, and Kitchen.
This past weekends target crew, was Konrad Schroeder. He did it all by himself. Scorer was Paul Connor, Kitchen, Steve Hornsby, RSO, Brian and myself Thank you all!

Winter well, and hope to see you all in the spring!!

Elmira Rod & Gun Club hosted the Hoarst Brotherston Memorial shoot this past weekend. Though we were few in numbers, we were many with laughs.
It was a beautiful fall weekend in Elmira with the leaves starting to change color, and the wildlife getting busy for what is to come!
Being short on helpers, and shooters, we ran with one relay, with lots of time in between matches for reloading and visiting.
I have to send out a big thank you to the three helpers we had this weekend.
Our match director Paul Connor who did it all, with registration, scoring, target crew, and shuttle service.
Also Steve Hornsby our chief cook and bottle wash doing what Steve does best, and Cole Timbers with clean up.

Somehow I seem to have forgotten to thank Stewart Forrest. Stewart comes out on the Fridays before the shoots and helps with setup and lawn and tree maintenance. He has been helping for a lot of years and I apologize for not mentioning  him along with the other helpers.

Thank You Stewart!!!!

Our last shoot is scheduled for Oct-4-5. Contact Brian for registration.
See You all in October.

Shooting at Elmira is something I look forward to every month.  It's been said many times before that its not only the shooting, but everything else before, and after the matches that makes it so enjoyable!!
Elmira matches are 2 weeks away. Be prepared for possibly one relay and the best time of the year to be shooting!!

I can vouch for this gun and this seller.
Have shot with him for many years, and this gun is a shooter.
If you purchase this gun or any Brenchrest gun, there are a number of shooters who will help you on your way.

Elmira Rod and Gun Club hosted the Alex Calder Memorial this past weekend. Our numbers were down with the busy holiday season, but still an enjoyable shoot with lots of laughs. The weather on Saturday was warm, but an overdo rain came on Sunday morning and cooled things down for awhile.
When it was all said and done Peter Smith came out on top with a very respectable 2 gun agg of .2778.

Many thanks to all the volunteers.
Target Crew- Jordon Mills, Owen Burtch, Jeff and Bryden Schafer and Paul Connor.
Scorer- Alex Alves, Paul Connor.
RSO- Les Misch, and Alex Rowden
Kitchen- Steve Hornsby, and Adam Wawrzniak

ORSA's next shoot is scheduled for Sept 13-14.
Depending on numbers, we may go with one relay, so plan ahead for those normally sharing benches and equipment.

ORSA - Ontario Rifle Shooters Association / ORSA July Shoot.
« on: July 28, 2025, 10:33:18 AM »
Elmira Rod and gun club hosted our 3rd event of the season. The rain held off for most of the weekend, while it was hot and humid.
Started things off Sat morning with the light guns at 100yds.
Peter Smith finished just ahead of Brian Shoemaker with a .2416 agg. After some hamburgers and hot dogs courtesy of Steve Hornsby, we continued with the HV's. Brian Shoemaker came out on top of this one with a .2306 agg with Peter Smith right behind. Kathy Brookes got in the mix taking 2 match stickers and the 100yd small group metal. I believe Kathy is now only 2 stickers behind Mark. Congrats Kathy!!
Sundays matches were dominated by Brian as he took 8 out of the 10,  and received the small group metal.
The 2 gun top 3 were Brian, Peter, and Bill Mitchell.
Thanks to the helpers on the weekend.
RSO- Paul Connor
Scorers- Paul, Alex Alves
Target- Mitchell Flatt, Tracey Lee, Steve Lee, and Mr. Hull
Kitchen- Chef Steve Hornsby !!
Also good luck to the Canadians heading to the IBS Nationals!
Next shoot is scheduled for Aug-16-17. Contact Brian to pre register.

At  ORSA's last general meeting, after the awards ceremony on Sunday, it was voted that ORSA donate to Team Canada in the upcoming WBC held in St Louis.
There are many expenses that are incurred leading up to this competition. It takes focus of the individual shooters to do their best at this level,  so any donations  are greatly appreciated !
Donations can be send to Rick Pollock on behave of Team Canada.

Good Luck Team Canada!!

We started with 17 shooters on Saturday morning.
It was the Brian Shoemaker show for the most of the weekend taking the two gun with a very respectable  agg of .2425, with George Carter in second with a .2742 agg.

Hello Calvin.
We were shooting 200 yard that day, so the  picture is taken from behind the 100 yard backer looking at the benches.
Our 200 yard target frame is up a little from the 100 yard, so some of the guys mount their flags right on the 100 yard target frame.

I took this picture from behind the 100 yard backer, facing the benches on Sunday morning at around 7:45am.
You can see some of the tails lifting up. It got much worse as the day went on, but it was a lot of fun!!

« on: May 05, 2025, 08:59:06 AM »
Elmira Rod and Gun club hosted the first shoot of the season for ORSA. We started off Saturday  with 14 shooters. It was nice to see everyone again and get back to the range after the long winter!
Bill Mitchell got things started with a couple small ones, and took the LV agg with a .2062. Stan Walter was on his heals with a .2192.
Stan  took the small group of the morning with a .086"
After lunch we pulled out the heavy guns and "The Legend" Bob Kerr shot a nice teen agg with a .1920 and George Carter not far behind at .2114
Small group went to Brian Shoemaker with an .085
We had some dinner, and traded stories about Rob MacLennan who we lost in March. There was a lot of laughs around the table and fond memories!!
Then on Sunday we moved things back to 200 yards. That's when the fun began. Never seen wind quite like that before. I took a picture of the range from behind the 100 yard backer, and the tails were already standing straight up or straight out.
Vera Carter got the show started with a .3114 agg, and  Bill Mitchell at .3263"
Small group was Bill with a .405
After lunch with the LV guns, Brian Shoemaker shot a .2859 agg and Peter Smith shot a .2986 agg.
Small group went to Brian Shoemaker with a .324
When the wind settled Bill Mitchell  took the 2 gun with a .2839 agg, Brian was Second with a .2972 and George Carter was in 3rd with a .3037 agg.
A big thanks to the helpers on Sat, and Sun.
Target Crew- Joey Villapiana, Randy Dunn, Brad Pattonand Jordan Mills
Scorers- Ian, and Paul Connor.
Range officers- Paul Connor and Patrick Riggs.
In the Kitchen- Steve Hornsby, Pat Carder, Douglas Sinclair, Tracey Lee, and Steve Lee.
Our next shoot will be June-21-22, and this will be a Memorial shoot in honor of Rob MacLennan. We are looking for a huge turn out, so register early.
