Hi Biill. It has indeed been a long time! About 47 years long. And we looked very different all those years ago. But when I saw you it was easy to " connect the dots" because I often watch your YouTube channel! Anywhere I can learn to refine my basic machine skills on a lathe; is a channel I will subscribe to!
It was a great shoot Bill! And the fact that you still shoot the same rifle from so many years ago, is really "cool". A word we used a lot in the 70's. I wonder how many shooters remember the Witchita Mini action. They were very accurate and unique. Anyway; keep getting to shoots Bill. I Still look forward to every one. And all the best.  Stan.

Stan,
It was really great to see you again, after all these years. This is a fun shoot. The facility is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque ranges you will ever see, and we're lucky it is available to us. For me, it's a 250-mile drive but it's certainly worth it.
Rick,
As always, I'm grateful to have clubs which put on matches like these. This was a good weekend.  Bill.

Please take note Rosebud will be hosting the BRSC Unlimited Nationals (formerly known as the Heavy Iron Shoot) on July 11-12.

All are welcome. The unlimited class allows almost any rifle other than no muzzle brakes, and you can't clamp the rifle to the bench. No weight restrictions. If you can lift it on the bench you can shoot it. If you don't want to shoot the 10 shot groups, then I encourage you to come out and just shoot the 5 shot groups.

Course of fire is as follows:
Friday is a practice day.
Sat 9am Unlimited 5-shot groups at 100 yards.
Sat 1pm Unlimited 10-shot groups at 100 yards.
Sun 9am Unlimited 10-shot groups at 200 yards.
Sun 1pm Unlimited 5-shot groups at 200 yards.

Camping is permitted just let me know in advance if you will be camping.
No Kananaskis park permit is required to compete at Rosebud.

Lastly please let me know if you will be attending so I can plan for helpers. rickpollock@shaw.ca

It's always good to make memories. And the logistics of doing so can be daunting. Especially when we get older. But having lived in Calgary for many years, and also shooting at the Rosebud Range, I haven't forgotten the incredible scenery. My best friend of many years invited me to stay at their home on the west side of the city, and on the morning of our practice day; as I drove to the edge of their neighborhood,  the sun was shining on the snow covered mountains. I've looked at those mountains thousands of times but the view is about as spectacular as anything I've seen. And I'd forgotten ! Had to stop the car.
The shooters at the Stampede Shootout, were friendly to a person and many offered assistance when needed. But Rick, Hugh and Rob Seeman  were there at every point at which I could use help. I hope they know how much I appreciated it. And a special thanks to Shawn with whom I shared a bench on Sunday. Made sharing easy and stress free.
The clinic was a wealth of information. It was a significant reason for going out there but there were many others as well. These fellows can really shoot and one could learn just by watching what they do at the bench.
In summary as I sit waiting for my plane's departure, the effort to make this happen is small compared to the adventure and the memories I will have. My thanks to everyone. Best regards to all. Stan

Rifles / Re: Looking for a Savage 12 Benchrest single shot Duel port 308 win

Hi Mike, this is a Stock and Action no barrel I bought for another project but ended up putting barrel on a different action and having multiple barrels.

The action and stock are very near new and I had stock bedded  and barrel channel opened up to accommodate at straight 1.250 barrel and that's where it stopped.

Going with a custom barrel is far better route than factory barrel as you can get what you want and chambered for what your wanting to do.

Happy to chat further and show you pics of stock and action.  here's my email gw272sf@gmail.com

Cheers
Gary

Thanks Gary

I am still interested.  Would you be completing this build?  I don't know much about barrels.  I don't have the resources or know how to complete it.  A faster twist might be better for todays longer bullets.  29 or 30 inch would be about right.  That is a nice heavy barrel. 1.250. I mean a heavier barrel sounds better to me.  Has this rifle been well used that you managed to need a new barrel already?  Why are some rifles using a 12 twist or 13 twist and others are using a 11.25" twist.  While hunting rifles appear to be using a 1:10. What kind of chamber did you have in mind?  You must have put some thought into this already.  What other mods?  Adjustable or raised comb, adjustable length of pull?  How about the means for attaching a bipod or not?  I'd probably just use a proper rest. The duel port single shot was my first thought that I wanted to go with.  What would you suggest for a scope?  You have my interest so far.  I just recently decided to entertain this idea.  This is all new to me.
