Rosebud Stampede Shootout (4-Guns 100yds) June 13, 14
« on: May 24, 2026, 07:42:20 AM »
The Stampede Shootout is fast approaching. Note that this year we moved the match to June 13, 14 as we were in conflict with the IBS Nationals in July. Don't worry the same 4-Gun at 100 yards goodness still applies. Format as follows:

-Thursday will be a practice day
-Friday will be a BR201 session at 1PM. This has been moved from Thursday.
-Swap Meet will run all weekend.
-Saturday will be Sporter then LV, and Sunday will be HV and Unlimited 5-shot.
-Club supplied BBQ on Saturday after the shooting is completed.
-Camping by prior arrangement.

Please let me know if you are attending so I can have the proper number of helpers.

Thanks.

Just a reminder to everyone the Stampede Shootout is coming up quick.

Course of fire as follows:
All classes are 5x 5-shot groups at 100 Yards
Thursday 11th - Practice Day
Friday 12th - Practice day and BR201 School at 1PM (all are welcome) We will cover bench setup, strategy, flag reading, target management
Saturday 13th - Sporter class in the morning (10.5 lb rifles) and Light Varmint class (also 10.5 lb rifles) in the afternoon.
Sunday 14th - Heavy Varmint in the morning (13.5 lb rifles) and Unlimited class (almost anything goes) in the afternoon.
Fee is $25per class, $100 for all 4 classes. You are free to shoot a half day, a full day or both days. No restrictions on how many classes you shoot.
Start time both days is 9AM, with a lunch break about 11:30, and start again about 12:30 and finish each day at about 4:30

A few notes:
Club supplied BBQ after shooting on the Saturday - usually about 4:30.
We will have the BR201 school at 1PM on the friday, not to be missed. Your instructors are Hugh Williamson and Rob Seemann, both on the cusp of entering the NBRSA Hall of Fame! None better in Canada!
You do not need to be a member of BRSC to participate, we will waive the $25 membership fee for new shooters.
We will allow almost any rifle (no muzzle breaks), even overweight rifles. You are free to shoot with non-class compliant rifles, and the targets will be scored and posted. Final results will not include non-compliant rifles.
We have camping and power, no running water. Just let me know in advance if you want to camp.
We have a clubhouse and reloading room for those that want to re-load at the range.
We have loaner equipment, front rests, rear bags, flags, spotting scopes if required.
Even if you don?t want to shoot, I would encourage everyone to come out for the school, or to see what we have created in BR at Rosebud.
You do not need the Kananaskis Day Pass to visit the range, only if you plan to visit other locations in the Park.

If there are any questions at all feel free to contact me at rickpollock@shaw.ca or call 403-554-6772.

Rick

All, we will be running 2 relays at the Stampede shoot next weekend. Competitors will need to share benches. Let me know who you want to share a bench with. rickpollock@shaw.ca

The Stampede Shootout is in the bag. Great turnout and many thanks to our out of town competitors. Great to see everyone once again. Special note to Stan W who flew in from Toronto to shoot with us! That is commitment!

The BR201 School was a big hit this year, I think we had 22 attendees, and thanks to Rob S and Hugh W for presenting on the many topics such as bench setup, flag setup, target management/strategy among many others. We are lucky to have such knowledgable presenters willing to share their knowledge.

So many people to thank including Wally P who came and scored and the target crew, Tyler E who looked after the backers, and power for the event, and the many other volunteers, and of course thanks to Rosebud Club for the use of the venue.

We ran a cash option this uear and it was well received by all accounts. Thanks to Doug T for organizing it.

Dean Weger is the big winner and beat up on the rest of the field by taking all the individual aggs and of course the 4 gun. He could not be stopped, and we all tried!

The 4-Gun results and a few pictures from the school. Equipment list to follow once I type it up.

Take note our next shoot at Rosebud is the BRSC Unlimited Nationals July 11-12. We will shoot 5-shot groups and 10-shot groups at 100 and 200 yards.

It's always good to make memories. And the logistics of doing so can be daunting. Especially when we get older. But having lived in Calgary for many years, and also shooting at the Rosebud Range, I haven't forgotten the incredible scenery. My best friend of many years invited me to stay at their home on the west side of the city, and on the morning of our practice day; as I drove to the edge of their neighborhood,  the sun was shining on the snow covered mountains. I've looked at those mountains thousands of times but the view is about as spectacular as anything I've seen. And I'd forgotten ! Had to stop the car.
The shooters at the Stampede Shootout, were friendly to a person and many offered assistance when needed. But Rick, Hugh and Rob Seeman  were there at every point at which I could use help. I hope they know how much I appreciated it. And a special thanks to Shawn with whom I shared a bench on Sunday. Made sharing easy and stress free.
The clinic was a wealth of information. It was a significant reason for going out there but there were many others as well. These fellows can really shoot and one could learn just by watching what they do at the bench.
In summary as I sit waiting for my plane's departure, the effort to make this happen is small compared to the adventure and the memories I will have. My thanks to everyone. Best regards to all. Stan
