Club Events / Mission - March 2026 Benchrest Group Shoot
« on: March 08, 2026, 04:09:05 PM »
We shot Group as a runup to our Spring Tuneup BRSC Registered shoot which is happening April 11 and 12.

Seven hardy shooters were greeted by worsening conditions which began with drizzle and ended in downpour.  After a day to dry, the later targets were still damp - I had to switch from pencil to Sharpee as the targets got progressively wetter!

We welcomed Jordan Nassey to the match who managed a good showing for his first time out.  Nice to see a younger shooter, hope he makes it a habit!

Don showed us the way through the weather shooting consistently and winning both yardages.  Congrats!

Art called the match and organized the targets, along with Don, Jordan and Steve, who was visiting from the Island.  Thanks to all who pitched in!

If you're planning on coming to the Spring Tuneup on April 11 and 12, please get in touch so we can plan out the numbers.

And the results - 100 yards:

8 shooters showed up to compete for our second match of the extended season.  Conditions were challenging, with moderate switchy winds, and the scores reflected that.

It was Paul's time to shine, taking both Benchrest and Sporter, while Chris took Custom.  Paul also took Best Target for seven of the eight targets he shot.

Thanks to Paul for organizing the match, to Shawn and Mike for scoring and to Don for help with the bookkeeping.

Short gap to the next match on March 14, hope to see a good crowd out.

Club Events / Mission - February 2026 Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: February 07, 2026, 05:18:37 PM »
Seven shooters gathered to shoot Score for our second match of the year.  Conditions were rainy at 100 yards, but with very little wind.  At 200, the rain began in earnest, but winds dropped to almost nothing.

It was Denis' time to shine, taking the 100 and 200 yards as well as (obviously) the Grand.  His 106 target at 200 was very impressive!

Pete prepped the targets while Art, Vlad and Don took care of running them.  Art called the match and did the scoring.  Thanks also to all who pitched in to help!

Our next match falls on March 7, and we'll shoot Group as a prep for our BRSC Registered Spring Tuneup match in April.

12 shooters showed up to compete for our first match of the season, and the first one held in Winter.  The weekend weather was sunny, although the temperatures were different from our accustomed ones.

Don was in it to win it, taking both Benchrest and Custom, while Mel took Sporter.  Don also took Best Target for seven of the eight targets he shot.

Thanks to Paul for organizing the match, and to Mel, Shawn and Mike for scoring.

Next match is February 28, hope to see a good crowd out.

Club Events / Mission - January 2026 Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: January 03, 2026, 08:42:06 PM »
Seven shooters gathered to shoot Score for our first match of the New Year.  Conditions were rainy, with some fog and switchy winds.  When entering the scores, the dampness of the target paper indicated the level of rain during the match!

Allan definitely came to play, winning the 100 and 200 yards and (obviously) the Grand.

With Art on the sick list Vlad and Don stepped in to prep and run the targets while Joe called the match and scored the damp targets.  Thanks also to all who participated!

All our club matches for this year are scheduled for Saturday, and the next one falls on February 7, where we will shoot Score.

Happy New Year to all!

Club Events / Mission - December 2025 Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: December 07, 2025, 08:58:23 PM »
Six hardy shooters gathered to shoot Score for our last match of the year.  Conditions were rainy, with some fog but very mild winds.

Congrats to Joe, who prevailed at 100 and to Milan who shot a fine 54 target at 200 yards, loosing the 200 yard win in a tie breaker.

With Pete away Art and Vlad stepped in to prep and run the targets, Art also called the match and did the scoring.  Thanks also to all who participated!

Next match will be SATURDAY, January 3 and we will change to Saturdays for our club matches the remainder of 2026.

Merry Christmas to all!

Club Events / Mission - November 2025 Benchrest Group Shoot
« on: November 02, 2025, 08:55:06 PM »
A bunch of last-minute cancellations left only 5 shooters to contest our November match.  Conditions started relatively calm, although they rapidly became much more active.

Art called the match and organized the targets, along with Don, Allan and Milan.  Thanks to all who pitched in!

Don took the 100 yard portion while Allan took the 200 and the Agg.  Congrats also to Allan for his two .195 groups at 100 (the only ones to be had) and to Art for his .234 screamer at 200.

Next match is December 7, our last match of the year.

And the results - 100 yards:

12 shooters showed up to compete for our last match of the season.  The weekend weather was stormy and rainy, but at match time we shot in moderate conditions.

Mel took Sporter (Paul was second for once) while Chris took Custom.

In a big change from previous matches only one shooter averaged more than 2000 per target.  We need more wind to practice in!

Thanks to Paul for organizing the match, and to Shawn and Mel for scoring.

Last match of the season, see you next year!

I was away for the match, so commentary is a little thin!

Thanks to Gord for handling the scoring, I just made it a little prettier!

Next match is September 27, hope to see a good turnout.

Club Events / Mission - October 2025 Benchrest Group & Score at 300
« on: October 06, 2025, 05:25:14 PM »
This month, we held our combined Group and Score 300 yard match.  In this format, we hang both a Group and a 200 yard Score target at 300 yards.  You have 14 minutes to complete both targets, and we repeat the process 5 times for the complete match.

Because this shoot combines Group and Score, scoring is done on the basis of points.  You get one point for every competitor you beat in each match.

A good turnout of 9 shooters got beautiful fall weather and very mild conditions, although, as usual, conditions started to pick up as the morning went on.  We started at 8 degrees while we finished at close to 20.

Congrats to Milan who had the smallest agg in the Group competition - Good shooting in interesting conditions!

Thanks to Art who called the match, Joe who collected our money and to Pete, Bob and Art who wrangled the targets at 300 yards.  Thanks again to Art who scored the Score targets.

Our next match is November 2nd, and we'll be back to shooting Group at 100 and 200 yards.

Here are the results:

Club Events / Mission - September 2025 Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: September 08, 2025, 12:33:12 PM »
Nine shooters gathered to shoot a Score match as we usually do in the fall.  Conditions were fairly mild under cloudy skies and haze, although there were a few wind surprises.

Results were very close, with an interesting tie for the 200 yard agg.  Both Pete and Don shot identical scores for the three papers, so it was necessary to go to the first bullseye on the first paper where Don prevailed with a 21 while Pete scored a 20.  Either way, a fine job of shooting on both their parts.

Thanks to Art who called the match and did the scoring and to Pete, Don and Vlad who ran the targets.  Thanks also to all the others who participated.

Next match is October 5, where we'll shoot Group and Score at 300 yards, our own version of the Tackdriver match.

14 shooters showed up to compete in very mild conditions on a beautiful summer day.

We welcomed Gurnoor Chahal, shooting Sporter.

Don took Benchrest, Derreck took Custom (in the Peters battle) and Paul took Sporter.

Once again, more than half the Benchrest shooters averaged more than 2000 per target.  Practice makes perfect!

Thanks to Paul for organizing the match, to Shawn, Mike and Art for scoring and to Tim for organizing the scored targets.

Next match is September 27, hope to see a good turnout!

And here's the Equipment List - Hope I got it all right!

Interesting reading as always.

Well, another Nationals is in the record books...

Weather was fair with moderate winds for the first day, but clouded over with lighter winds on the second.  The Mission terrain always poses its share of challenges.

Thanks to our target crew and to our scorer who provided prompt service.

Joe and Art shared the duties of calling the line while shooting the match as well.

Finally, thanks to all the shooters who pitched in to make the event a success.  It was always easy to find someone to lend a hand, even in the heat!

Also a special shout out to Nobby, who kept up with the proceedings and posted respectable results.  As Art said, may we all shoot as well at his age!

Nationals 2026 have been awarded to Selkirk, Manitoba, hope to see you all there!

Less than two weeks to the Nationals!  If you are planning on coming and haven't let us know, please email me (markdumont750@gmail.com) or Joe (joe mendham@telus.net) with your intentions...  Looks like a good turnout and should be a great weekend of shooting!

We shot in lovely weather and relatively steady conditions.

With a smaller then usual contingent, YoDave's army still managed to take the top spot in Benchrest, while Derreck won the battle of brothers in Custom and Paul took Sporter.

Mike, Shawn, Derreck and Mel handled the scoring while Tim organized the targets.  Paul organized the match (including the well stocked prize table) and called the line.
