Rifle Match Report
Saturday June 14th, 2025 Lake of the Woods Gun Club Rifle Division held a BRSC registered 100 meter and 200 meter benchrest for score match. The backhoe work done last July allowed us to use the same bench and flag set up for both distances. It was sunny with a moderate changeable wind. Eight shooters shot both yardages competing for the Grand Aggregate Award.

Congratulations to Rod Jack for winning the 200 and Grand Agg.

Thanks to target Crew Shyla Hellesoe, Scorer Al Carlson and competitors who came out to support the club.

Sunday July 28th, Lake of the Woods Gun Club in Kenora held a 22 Rimfire benchrest match. It was attended by 9 competitors including a couple new shooters.
Weather was hot and humid with moderate wind.
In Sporter Class Ryan Jackson won his 3rd consecutive match with a good shooting CZ.
Micheal Rosenblat normally shoots longer ranges with shorter time limits but placed well none the less in his first benchrest match. 
Crystal Kirby Peloquin was in the hunt but was undone by ammo on her last target. Crystal displayed unreal concentration and technique.
Mike Warkentin did manage to hit the fly that sat still for 6 shots. Mike shoots better with a shotgun.
In Unlimited Class Phil Nick squeaked by Rod Jack by 1 X dot.
Wayne Schellenberg posted the highest X count in Unlimited.

It was attended by 6 shooters.
Saturday it rained. Sunday, it snowed.

Lake of the Woods Gun Club in Kenora held a two-day Score Match August 26th and 27th. It was attended by nine shooters. Saturday at 100 the conditions were fantastic with wind in the single digits. Sunday at 200 was a different story.

One high light was the fat shinny black bear that crossed the range at 50 meters.

While the wheels fell right off for a couple competitors including myself, Phil Nick shot consistently well at both yardages. Phil's targets will be submitted to be considered for a Grand Agg record.

Thanks to the shooters who are happy competing in Kenora.

Lake of the Woods Gun Club in Kenora Ontario held our 7th annual 500 Meter Benchrest Match Sunday June 25th. It was attended by 7 shooters with 4 from Manitoba. Weather was overcast, cool and breezy with light rain in the morning, changing to drizzle, then mist in the afternoon. There was no mirage, just wildfire smoke and lots of mosquitos.
The 600 yard IBS target is used with awards for Group Aggregate, Score Aggregate, Small Group and Highest Single Target Score. It was a good battle in the top 4 spots but Grant Schick from Cooks Creek Manitoba had the right stuff to win. Congratulations to Grant. It was a fun event. Thank You to the participants and volunteers who look forward to this event every year.

Lake of the Woods Gun Club in Northwestern Ontario held a 2-day score match April 29/30. Spring has not quite arrived here yet. Saturday it snowed a little and melted on the ground.

Sunday at 200 was the windiest match held here in memory. It was a north wind funneled down the 500-meter range and into your face. The gusts blew away gun cases, timers, scope covers and anything not secured. And dust. Some gusts had to be leaned into and braced against to keep from being blown off your spot.

Thanks to the wind burned shooters who froze their asses off. Thanks to all the volunteers and helpers who make our events possible. Special thanks to Davy Jones for bringing a wood stove and a load of firewood.
